I’m sure most people don’t buy convenience foods, but for our family they’ve always been a necessity. We recently were able to just start making convenience foods like soup or breakfast sandwiches ahead of time and just freezing it. It’s super easy for us to just pull it out and pop it in the microwave, or to pull the soup out the night before and stick it in the fridge. For most people this is probably common sense, but for me this was life-changing! So much healthier and so much cost savings.

Same here! We definitely love having homemade convenience food ready to heat and eat!

Pie dough is so fast. They taste of homemade pastry is life-changing! Crackers are another expensive one and taste great made from scratch.

I make bread, tortilla, hamburger buns, pita bread, yoghurt, muffins, cookies every week, ravioli, egg fettuccine pasta, chicken nuggets every month, dried yoghurt veggie soup mix, cured beef sausage every year. I always grind my meat at home. I roast chicken and turkey. I make beef patties in bulk every other month.

Thk u so much for sharing! I am definitely trying to pull more and more away from premade foods at the store. Now more than ever it is so important that we know what is in the foods we eat 😊

Also, never bought pie crust. You just can’t replace that butter factor. Have you ever added cheese for a quiche crust? It is a fun add-in. I also love making home made egg noodles, and you can sourdough culture that too..I have only done that a couple times and it was great.

I have made tortillas often using sourdough culture in place of the water and letting it culture over night. With no need of gluten development, you can really let it go long. It gives it a bit of a cheesy taste. That is awesome about lunch meat! We love smoking pork loin and I made sure there was extra this time in hopes of making lunch meat. It is slightly dry, so I am guessing a brine like you do would fix that. Thanks for the video!! Can’t wait to try the quick oats! What a fun gift idea too…. Have you ever used dry fruit successfully? Thanks!

Just added tortillas to our make at home list too. We do pie crusts too but I think that we might have a different recipe. I will have to check out yours. We do chicken instead of lunch meat for the last year because the quality and price has gone crazy. Pretty easy to marinate and grill and get lots of great flavor. Yours looks amazing!! My list of things that we don't buy from the store is bread, rolls/buns, muffins/quick breads/baked goods, pasta or pizza sauce, brown sugar, enchilada sauce, sloppy joe sauce, salad dressing, soup and more. We are trying to integrate more things at home and from scratch and take more things off the shopping list.

Love your list! Enchilada sauce is something I still need to master. Definitely try the lunch meat, it tastes even better than it looks. 😋

    Pizza!
I have a child with sensory issues and pizza is the only think he will willingly eat. So I make a yeast bread dough that’s enough for 2 large pizzas. Then I cut it up and keep it in the fridge for lunch.

I am going to try the granola bars. Do you store millet, quiona and amaranth in buckets and how long can they be stored?
