The problem with unemployment statistics is that it excludes individuals who have stopped looking for jobs. They pretend those people simply don't exist.
That's the U3 stat which only counts those actively receiving benefits. The U6 gives a more accurate picture because it includes those no longer receiving benefits but still unemployed as well as the underemployed. I think its shady AF that they utilize the U3 so they look good.

But in June the Canadian gov started to more publicly talk about adding a capital gains tax to primary residence. As of right now they are still exempt. The problem with unemployment statistics is that it excludes individuals who have stopped looking for jobs. They pretend those people simply don't exist.
That's the U3 stat which only counts those actively receiving benefits. The U6 gives a more accurate picture because it includes those no longer receiving benefits but still unemployed as well as the underemployed. I think its shady AF that they utilize the U3 so they look good.
Add to the mix those holding down 2 or 3 jobs. This creates a drastic imbalance in the jobs market.
They also aren't talking about how many job they so call added that are underemployed.

Where do these people get their numbers? Do they get them from preschoolers? Food up 20%, that's not even close. I took 2 years of economics, have a Bachelors in BA, and work in retail. Every product that was $1 is now $1.25 and the weight (quantity) is 30% less. That's a 55% increase, 25 cents more to get 30% less. To buy the original $1 quantity would cost you $1.55 if they had kept the package size the same. We have inflation and shrink flation going on at the same time
When the government calculates and reports the inflation rate, they specifically exclude the cost of food and fuel. The reasoning - they claim - is that those prices just fluctuate too much (high volatility). But really, it's to make the public think the economy is doing better than it is....because the modern economy depends on "consumer confidence."
So when they say inflation is up 21%...That's on things like furniture, clothing, and appliances (things most households can find a way to work around rising inflation). It never counts things most households can't go without like food, gasoline, and heating.

Unemployment is low because people have given up on trying to find work. Once people drop out of the system their numbers are no longer figured into the equation. Also, there are too many low paying jobs, so people who do work are having to work several jobs just to be able to afford to live. That's why you can't just look at the numbers to get the bigger picture.

So VHS could show pretty much any movie on a single tape where betamax would often require a second. The Playtime would also be a pretty significant consideration for people who were using the VCR to record television shows. Nvhs better matched the quality of broadcast television anyway. And also betamax was a little bit more pricey than VHS was, both on the consumer side and when the studios licensed it for distribution.

I think it's already active in the US. When I had my taxes done I mentioned to the preparer that I was thinking of moving and she told me not to forget Capital Gains Tax. She told me it started a few years ago when the then in power Dems realized they were missing a good chunk of money to tax.

But in June the Canadian gov started to more publicly talk about adding a capital gains tax to primary residence. As of right now they are still exempt. Our government needs more money and this is one way to get a lot of it.

re: BetaMax: In the early days of recording TV and renting movies, there were two tape formats (Beta[Max] from Sony), and VHS (a bigger tape cartridge from JVC). In the 80's the big question was which one would be the winner. Beta was not better. I sold VCRs and Big Screen TVs in the 80s.
Beta was better quality but shorter length of tape.. They refused to release as much adult content on their format, which resulted in its demise.
