I want a 5-man squad of Primaris Lieutenants to be a thing in the game. I don't care how good or shit it is. Just let me live out the lore accurate marine experience of having 5 lieutenants for every regular marine.
There was an old 6th ed WFB scenario called "The Seven Knights" where one force was entirely characters, with full access to the magic items list. Maybe that could adapted for 40k?
They really should remove the option to add them in the same unit as a Chapter Master. If other factions cant do such thing like Adepta Sororitas, why on Earth Space Marines are allowed to?
Maybe it could give his model alone once per battle, devastating wounds with critical hits on 5+ whilst in combat. Could make his chain sword decent, 5 and 6 auto wounding.
People are joking about it but honestly I like them. Whenever I kitbash something cool I can run it as a lieutenant/castellan as a black Templars player it’s really quite fun and I enjoy it
The fact that Auspex has a 23 minute video on just Space marine side characters makes me question how much money GW actually makes off them to warrant such an extensive range. I don't know about the rest of you but I don't buy the single model character kits for SM. I kitbash characters out of all the other kits, Lieutenants especially. One box of intercessors made me all the lieutenants I needed. I'd very much like to see GW give world eaters and thousond sons a death guard esque character release and some multi-part leader kits for some of the xenos factions like tau or orks. Please, Space Marines have enough characters.
See the thing that amuses me is that all of the Ultramarines ones are painted as second company, so in GW’s eyes this must be two guys in loads of different disguises
My only beef with heroes is forced/no weapon choice or very little weapon choice in their data sheet. (no friggin thunder hammers for my Sallies - both captains and lieutenants =[ ) About Reiver Lieutenant's pistol AP0... It's a typeo GW don't wanna admit - it's a master-crafted version of Reiver pistol and EVERY master-crafted weapon has identical stats but with better damage. Also I use him as Phobos Lieutenant - just like its box/blister says. As for Biologis, I use regular Apothecary, because I'm a git.
The eldar can form roving gangs of warlocks and farseers. Its time for the marines to get a unit with only primaris lieutennants. you can fit as many as you have individiual sculpts
Doesn't the Apothecary Biologis fill the Lethal Hits niche that a Gravis Lieutenant would also fill? GW should probably alter the AB rules so that it doesn't just get outclassed by something that does the same thing but with better weapons.
@@HighMarshalBiggusDickus to me it never had been so clearly visible than this week end when I was playing my space marine army with a deathwatch ally against world eaters and thousand sons allies… Every combo that we need to put on one squad, they have nearly natively armywide. They're some of the first models I painted when I got my blood angels patrol three years ago, and by god I will field them no matter what their point cost is!
They can put in some work with the fire overwatch stratagem. In a more niche sense, they could do even better in a firestorm det with a gravis captain leading them.
Yes! Thank you benevolent Omissiah! Finally Auspex gives the primaris lieutenant the honor and respect it deserves! 😂 I love how you manage to put out so much content and still have time for these ideas that are just going to bring us joy on so many levels. Keep it up!
I'm a Salamanders player who loves drop pods and it's great how Adrax, a Bladeguard Lt and 3 Bladeguards can half fill a dro pod, meaning you can put all manner of 5 man squads into the rest of the spots, like Infernus Marines who love rather close as well
I'm hoping to see more chapter specific lieutenants, with unique traits that pair well with their chapter's playstyle, like White Scars will hopefully get a lieutenant that buffs charge and attacks of bike units or Salamanders will get one that buffs flamers and meltas. I also kind of wish they didn't entirely remove auras, I really wanted to try some combos I made up before they overhauled them
When you think about it, the amount of Lt's GW is making, has a twisted sort of logic to it. After all, if there are 10 companies in a Codex Chapter, that means 20 Lt's (two per Captain) so we have a good few more left to come 😅😅
where are the chaos lieutenant equivalent? things like World Eaters MoE, exalted champion, master of possession, biologus putrifier, foul blightspawn and so on would have been great to see as a counterpart of the loyalist ones
You could put the strike master in the same unit as a captain.. don't think auspex realized that. Strike master was literally the best character on this list
I think my favorite is the one with the Storm Shield, attached to a squad of six Blade Gaurd riding in a Land Raider Redeemer. I think that seems like a good combo. The transport can support them very well and move them up the board.
I'm glad this video exists. Since GW seems to have taken out Lone Wolves as SW character units (and since Pack Leaders can't be used without a squad to attach to), the closest thing and best proxy appears to be various flavours of lieutenant. Being similar prices to some units doesn't help, but the option for conversion is at least there
IMO the space wolf lieutenant is incredible. In gladius, give him fire discipline. The Wolf guard terminators still have the keen sense rule with ignoring hit modifiers AND +1 to hit when shooting oaths. this means stormbolters always on 2s full fishing for gladius fire discipline critical 5s. in melee, they will hit on 2s always with lethal hits which is violently efficient.
My favourite Lieutenant is the Bladeguard Lieutenant and second is the “Plasma-Fist”. I like some of the exclusive LTs but won’t go out of my way to acquire them. The Bladeguard LT would be even better if it had multi-pose options, like pointing his sword. The Bladeguard Veterans box has the sword-pointing option I’m looking for; I’m planning to kitbash it into a Lieutenant. For Black Templars, in my casual games, I use the Primaris Lieutenant’s datasheet but always use my Castellan models. Hopefully when the 10e Black Templars codex is released, GW will fix the disparity between the Lieutenant and Castellan attacks and wargear options - just as long as the Castellan retains its Lethal Hits ability! I know there are already a lot of LTs, but I wish there was a Terminator Lieutenant and Jump Pack Lieutenant to lead those types of squads, because Captains are overkill as squad leaders. I wouldn’t mind a Gravis LT, even though the Apothecary Biologis already provides Lethal Hits. If GW does add a Gravis LT eventually, I hope they revise the Bio-Apothecary so it can HEAL and/or REVIVE, and the Gravis LT will get Lethal Hits. No one wants to lose a Gravis character with Lethal Hits, but it would make more sense for a LT than an Apothecary.
Regular chapter Lieutenants in Terminator armor, bikes, jump suits, CENTURION armors... We obviously need more lieutenants. Catachan been sitting 26 years. They can comfortably wait another 26.

I would have liked Zakariah to have a unique datasheet but I'm not mad at him being a unique regular lieutenant. Losing the Strikemaster sucks, though when 10th came out I kitbashed a normal deathwing termie for the command squad so I guess i'll just swap the Strikemaster with the champion and run them as a normal deathwing squad.
Funnily enough, getting an enhancement with a named character is quite solid. I sometime am going to take Adrax in Bladeguard with a Lieutenant with Forged in Battle. Is all that worth 345 points? Almost certainly not. But it'll be cool!
The Castellan being worse than the base Lieutenant kind of makes sense because of the Righteous Crusaders detachment. The Lieutenant cannot be attached to a Primaris Crusader Squad or Sword Brethren Squad, where the Castellan can. Accept Any Challenge, No Matter The Odds + Castellan w/ Sigismund's Seal = Lethal and Sustained Hits on 5's and 6's in melee on Crusaders or Brethren. I think GW sees it as a trade off. Durability for lethality.
Reiver Lt with Hounds of Morkai unfortunately means that he gives Lethal Hits to weapons with Devastating Wounds. I'd argue it is best to not combine those.
I agree with this. Something I’ve been thinking about trying is running the reiver lieutenant as a lone op in the vanguard spearhead. Then putting him and 5 hellblasters in an impulsor. This way the impulsor gets scout 6, then gets him out and do secondaries and run the impulsor with the hellblasters up the field. I think this is the only way this guy could work. Otherwise he’s trash.
I think the lieutenant meme pretty much embodies what I dislike about Primaris: Bloated range Monopose models Loss of faction uniqueness (strike master) Loadout limitations Weird anti-synergies Bringing 30k into 40k

Before that point SM had a similar number of units to most other factions, as exemplified by space wolves, whose index is almost unchanged from pre-primaris, with only a few older vehicles missing
Strikes me as weird that the captain is restricted to relic shield/sword/pistol to lead bladeguard but the lieutenant isn't. Not that I'd like him to be; I'd rather I could play my primaris captain model as wysiwyg while leading them, like the lieutenant
