Last month I just visited in Yangon, I stayed at Sule Shangri-La hotel, it is a nice hotel .I love Yangon

I m Vietnamese , I think Yangon looks a bit like Saigon Vietnam and yangon women also look like viets too, Yangon culture is like việt nam , a lot of street food, people kind of relax, the way you cross the street and the temperature is quite the same, I m a bit surprise
I want so much to see Vietnam as well as Myanmar. Maybe my dream will come true someday.
Sule Pagoda Road is considered to be the main street of the city. It used to be my stomping grounds when I lived in Yangon, I'm sure a lot of my footprints are still there, hahaha! My friends and I would meet at the Peter Pan Cafe (which is no longer there) which was next to the Naypyidaw cinema. I am very glad to see the old colonial buildings still in place. We have to thank the Yangon City government for doing a great job and I hope the other buildings around the city will be restored to their former glory. I would like to add that although I was very much against colonialism, these old buidings are are part of our heritage and should not be demolished to make way for modern hotels, restaurants and/or new office buildings.

Nice to read a comment from you again. I agree with you about the colonial buildings - it would be nice to see them all restored. I understand that a lot of Burmese may be ambivalent about the buildings and see them as a symbol of British colonialism not worth preserving. But even the UK used to be ruled by another Empire - the Roman Empire. And in Britain today careful work is done to preserve the heritage that dates back to Roman times. If you visit the city of Bath for example you can see the Roman baths. The greatest danger to Yangon's colonial heritage was maybe during the socialist phase of Myanmar where buildings were left to rot. Now Myanmar is becoming more capitalist and open. Hopefully that will mean more money can go towards preserving Yangon's heritage, and not mean that developers are just given a free hand in tearing down the old to make way for the new.

Right when you said motorcycles are banned in Yangon, was there not somebody riding by on a motorcycle?
It wasn't that many people walking in the street (I assumed it was shot 3 wks ago). I was there almost 3 wks ago too over there, and it was a lot of people.
Your daily interactions with locals might be good? Still like your videos.

Thanks for your comment - Yes my daily interactions with locals are almost always good. I don't dislike the postcard lady - she has to make a living selling her postcards. It is just funny how persistent she is. As I said in the video, literally every time I go there she will find me and try to sell me a postcard. Maybe one day I will actually buy one.

Yes, we would like to hear about your first Thingyan/Water festival experience in Myanmar!
I only caught the last part of Thingyan as we have been on holiday in Thailand. We came back to Myanmar late on Tuesday. Compared with Bangkok's Songkran Thingyan in Yangon seemed to engage a lot more people. Except for certain areas of Bangkok life pretty much went on as usual there. All shops and restaurants being open. In Yangon it is different. Many more people on the streets taking art in the celebrations and most shops/restaurants closed.
