After watching several historical documentaries on this FABULOUS plane (You Tube), i "capped them off" with your fine, definitive presentation of this LOVE-LY model. Well Done, Sir ! Thanks for sharing. (Guess the De Havilland Mosquito is now my all time favorite airplane !)
+blusnuby2 Thanks for watching and for your nice comment, much appreciated! She is a beautiful aircraft and very maneuverable and fast with those twin Merlins and her light wooden airframe! Great build, I learned so much. I just back into modeling in the last year after not touching a model since I was kid., videos like yours keep me going and learning. You are really talented, great work man, take it easy, William
Thanks for watching and commenting William, greatly appreciated! I hope you're having fun with your modeling? I started modeling in January of 2014, so it's only been 2 1/2 years for me, although I haven't built anything for 4 months because my wife and I moved to a new home and we're still settling in. I'll be glad when I get my man-cave built and set up again so i can begin building....I'm missing it! This was my 8th build...I've built 26 aircraft and one figurine, so far...so, this "Mossie" doesn't quite capture my present skills that I've learned watching other modelers videos.Check some of my more recent builds: th-cam.com/video/AKddHmJ_chs/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/Un29hOf2diM/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/eSI_qcd9s88/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/ZRKU-k-M-BE/w-d-xo.html Cheers : )
Nicely done, sir! I remember watching UK TV station Channel 5 and its Weapons of War episode on the Mosquito and how it was the first ever stealth bomber, could outpace Bf109s and that there was a tank-buster version called the Tetse-Mosquito! The footage of the test bed firing this cannon showed the whole plane recoiling six or seven feet with each blast. A beautiful plane.
Thanks Ronno, much appreciated! And yes, she is a beautifully designed aircraft "The Wooden Wonder"...and because of her light weight construction, her speed and maneuverability were much improved with those twin Merlin engines! Cheers : )
International British Modeler I'm researching airbrushes at the moment - the recent Saturday's Daily Mail 1:72 Airfix Spitfire giveaway got me inspired again! Your videos are very accessible and easy to follow. Cheers!
We don;t have the Daily Mail here in the USA, so, I was bummed out when I was checking the news back home in the UK and saw that offer. I would have gone to 10 different Newsagents and bought the paper 10 times! Good luck finding an airbrush... look at double-acting airbrushes, you get total control over both the flow of air and the flow of paint. Cheers : )
International British Modeler I'm not a fan of 1:72 kits which is why I only got the one. I did contemplate going back the next day and asking if there were any kits left but ended up not doing that! Thanks for the advice re: airbrushes :-)
To be honest, neither am I, too small for my aging eyes and not enough details as one finds in the larger scale kits. You're welcome regarding the airbrushes. Cheers : )
Watching for inspiration, for when I get round to tackle the 1/48 Revell Mk.IV.. :) I have also bought a 1/72 Tamiya Mosquito Mk.IV, which I will build as the version used by 'B.O.A.C.' on their ball bearing runs to Sweden. A very interesting story behind that Mosquito but I'' get back to that more when I build it.. in due course. The Revell 1/48 Mossie IV will be RAF, however.. :)
Hey Rob, seems I missed this comment, so, sorry for the late reply! This was an old build for me...built during my 4th month of modeling, when I began in January 2014, so, not to the standards I build to today...but, I still have my old tooling Revell Mossie Mk.IV that I began at the end of last year, to finish. Will get back to it after I complete my Sea Hurricane and two mirage IIIC's. I can't wait to see what you do with yours....I'd imagine no scratch-building necessary for that one, what, with 222 parts, I think plenty is included, unlike my old tooling version that has more scratch-build parts than the number of parts that came with the kit! Cheers : )
@@InternationalBritishModeler I am privy to the options of Ians next lot of suggested Group Builds and if the option wins that I think will win, I will build the Mossie for that Group Build. If not I'm sure I can angle it, somehow. I wanted to make it as a Mosquito IV, used by BOAC for the Stockholm run, but those decals were expensive in 1/48. I bought a Mossie IV in 1/72 instead, which I will build as the BOAC version.
Mouth watering build! I would love for Tamiya to have provided a detailed 20mm cannon bay with ammo drums etc, I know that you would have done it justice. Congratulations on your sublime skill.
I'm too old to start modelling ( shaky hands) but would love to buy the completed item. ALSO, your next project, WOW, Mossie and Typhoon, what a combination.
Great video - I'm about to build one of these and think I'll follow your guide! Any weathering tips for a 6/10 skilled modeler? I'm going to washing the joints for detail and paint using brushes rather than airbrush. :)
Rich Hemmings Hey Rich, thanks for watching and your kind comment, greatly appreciated! If you're using a hairy stick to brush paint your model, I'd just suggest that you thin your paints to water consistency and do layers of thinly applied paint. Be patient and allow each layer to dry before applying the next coat. I find this method works for me in helping to eliminate brush strokes in the finished item. What paint are you going to use? I ask, because Tamiya acrylics (I only use acrylics) do not brush well from the bottle. But, if you thin them down with Isopropyl Alcohol it helps them flow much better, paint better and accelerates the drying time. You can buy a liter bottle from any pharmacy for around $6.99 and it will last you a long time....just don't drink it! ; )~ Good luck and enjoy building her, she's a great kit! Cheers, Martin : )
Is it only Airfix that do kits in 1:72 scale? I do like the idea of a 1:32 scale model, tbh. Xmas 2016 here in Scotland saw Debenhams, The Works and TK Maxx stores(I know it's TJ Maxx in the U.S.) flogging 1:24 Airfix Spitfire and Messerschmitts for £20.00 each. Did I buy any at that price? No, I did not.....
No, lots of companies sell 1/72 scale kits, here's a link to all the 1/72 scale kits on my local hobby supplier's website: www.scalehobbyist.com/catagories/Model_Aircraft/browse.php?s=0&t=0&pg=1&ppp=48&sb=stocknumber&so=a&sc=72 Damn, if I could get 1/24 scale kits for that price, I'd buy a bunch of them. In this land of capitalism, nobody gives anything away for next to nothing.
Thank you, much appreciated. Before I could give any advice, I'd need to know how you're painting your models and with what type of paints. But...there re hundreds of videos here on TH-cam showing all the different weathering techniques used by modelers and how to apply them. Cheers : )

I'm building a Tamiya De Havilland Mosquito which is to be a American Night Fighter, and I'm using Humbrol paints. What color paints should I use for the right colors?
I don't use Humbrol, because they're terrible paints to use...I use Tamiya and Model Master paints only. If your NF version is the upper grey/green camo with a lighter grey underside, I use Tamiya XF-81/ XF-82 and XF-83. No idea what the Humbrol equivalents are, but you could try Google. Good luck.

My airbrush isn't one of the high end fancy ones, it cost my wife $65.00 when she bought it me for Christmas 2013, along with a compressor and 3 Airfix kits. Mine is a Paasche VLS double action airbrush...I've really liked the results I've gotten with it for a cheap airbrush...the only maintenance I do with it is; wash it out after every use and before each color change, and, buy new needles and tips when the needles start losing their original shape. I've brush painted about 9 of my builds, even though I had the airbrush and I'm happy with the results...any blemishes there might be are blended by the weathering stage when applying oil paint washes and filters, which in turn make it appear as if it was all airbrushed. The "Mossie" is a gorgeous bird, a "wooden wonder", agile, nimble, graceful but aggressive at the same time. Tamiya paints are great for airbrushing, not good for brush painting straight from the bottle, they tend to drag, unless you thin them 50/50 or more. I'll look out for your "Tiffy' pics so I can get them posted into the forum for all the other members to see. Cheers, Martin : )
That is fantastic, I want to build this kit, but due to lockdown I have no way of knowing which paints to buy, this may well help but never used Model masters, in fact I am returning after 25 years away from the hobby. Also, when you masked up the top surfaces, was that using a masking sheet supplied with the kit ?
Thanks for watching Chris, much appreciated! This was one of my early builds since I started back modeling in January 2014, 42 years after I last built a model as boy. All I can suggest is to take your time, watch a few videos of how more experienced modelers build their models and the methods that they use to achieve some realism. One of the most important things to do, in my opinion, is to ensure that you apply a good gloss clear coat (varnish) over the painted model before you apply the decals, otherwise they will "silver" and will not look like they are painted on. Allow the clear coat to dry overnight before applying the decals, let them settle down overnight, then seal them in with another clear coat. If you don't have an airbrush and you're going to brush paint, then I'd suggest that you thin your paint down and apply a few thin coats allowing each coat to dry fully before applying the next coat. watch videos, practice your techniques on pieces of plastic card and have patience....don't rush the build and you should see good results. My latest builds average anything from 120 - 160 hrs of work to complete them. The most important thing to remember, is to have fun....don't get stressed, this is an hobby for de-stressing from the rigors of daily life! Cheers : )
thanks for your help. I did this when i was young then came back recently by building a Cromwell tank from those airfix starter kits as an intro. The paint job i did was less than stellar, im hoping to do a better job this time around.
I would recommend that you paint the road wheels with tamyia rubber black XF-85. Then I would continue on to weather the wheels.other than that recommendation really good job!!!
Hi Martin. I love your Mossie its very tasty. I Hope I can bring my Mossie back from the grave as I have spent about 40 Hrs on her and I think I have just destroyed her in 20 mins by trying to spray the underside Matt 64 Humbrell with my airbrush. I have had nothing but trouble when spraying and Have finish kits using brush painting because of the trouble I have with airbrushing. The Paint comes out like crap with little puddles of paint all over the model I'm trying to paint. Its been the same everytime I use an airbrush. Is it cos Its just not getting clean enough as I used a badger cleaning product and since then its been like this. I'm losing the will to live!!! what can you suggest as I need therapy Jon
Thanks John, much appreciated! This is an old build for me now, done 3 years ago when I first began making models. Regarding your airbrush woes, what kind of airbrush are you using; single action or double action? Are you using acrylics or enamels? If you're getting small puddles, that sounds to me like it could be one or more of a few problems, such as: your paint is coming out too fast, you maybe too close to the subject matter with the tip of your airbrush, you're not doing light pass-overs of areas, working from one end of your model to the next, then returning to another light pass, until you achieve the density/appearance you're looking for. I use a double action airbrush that gives me control over both the amount of air I allow to flow through the nozzle and how much paint I allow to flow through....it's all about control baby, yeahhh! If you use enamels, I have no experience with those, I only use acrylic products for ease of cleaning and because I do all my modeling at the dining table and don;t want the smell of oil and lacquer based products in the house. Cheers : )
Jefferson Sheng I only use masking fluid for small windows on the sides of fuselages. My Avro Lancaster was a prime example with all of the windows down each side of the fuselage.
Returning home after another successful mission! Mmmmm REALLY? …..“ Dam and blast it skip! Silly me forgot to lob the jolly old bombs on old Jerry’s bearing factory”, “ never mind old chap! we’ll fuel up and fly the jolly old battle crate over Blighty and over Frogland wiz around old Eiffel Tower and i can plot a course and hit the target this time. Then wing it back to the mess in time for some good old bangers and mash followed by a delicious apple pie with lashings of hot steamy custard! Hows that sound! “Roger That” lucky the guy who made this old crate knew his way round the kite WHAT WHAT!👍
Sorry to be pedantic, not usually my style, but if she's returning after another successful mission, why has she still got all her bombs? 😊😊😊 That is a truly beautiful build!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Frederick J. Meccia Thanks Frederick, much appreciated! Regarding comparing this to the new tooled Airfix version, I couldn't answer that as I haven't built the Airfix version. I'd suggest checking out other modelers online reviews who might have built it to see what they say about it. All I can say about this kit, being a fairly recent Tamiya kit, one can always expect great details and engineering leading to a kit that literally falls together without issues and look good when built. Cheers, Martin : )
It's a fantastic kit by Tamiya that goes together very well. This was the 8th model that I built since beginning modeling in 2014 and there are a couple of tricky areas to assemble- inside the cockpit and the undercarriage. But, if you have dexterity and lots of patience to tackle those areas, you might be alright, otherwise, practice on a few cheaper kits until you feel confident with your gluing and assembly skills/techniques. Good luck and have fun! Cheers 👍😃
This is an old video, that was made with the extremely basic “TH-cam” editor, when I first began building models....I use “Power Director” now, rated the #1 video editor by PC World, last year.
Thanks SIlkster, glad you like her. It was a successful mission, he didn't have to drop any bombs on the enemy, he managed to destroy the convoy by strafing them with his guns and cannons...a very conscientious and great cost savings Pilot this geezer was. Cheers : )

I'm losing the will to live!!!
what can you suggest as I need therapy
Jon
Cheers : )
Still a great video Martin, I do like the Mosquito squadron theme, but prefer the music in the 1st one...... Fantastic build tho :-)
Cheers, mate and thanks for watching it! In my video manager it says that this video is banned in some countries?! I have no clue why, though?
I liked watching this and for reference.
However someone discovered the video transition box and decided they would use every last one.....
beautiful
Thanks Gail, much appreciated : )
Does micro mask work well? because making it with templet is a bit chanllenging especially for this kind of camo.
That is a truly beautiful build!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Brilliant!
James Wilcox Thanks mate! Another fabulous well engineered Tamiya kit that fell together like the Skyraider! Highly recommended or the "Mossie" lovers! Cheers, Martin : )
brilliant! extremely jealous, wish I good do the paint job as good as that!
Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated! This was one of my first models when I began modeling 2 years ago. I have better looking models that I built more recently....check these out if you wish: Revell Arado AR196A Seaplane- th-cam.com/video/ZRKU-k-M-BE/w-d-xo.html Eduard BF109E-3- th-cam.com/video/ej54LH-n8iY/w-d-xo.html Revell Focke Wulf Fw190F-8- th-cam.com/video/eSI_qcd9s88/w-d-xo.html Monogram Heinkel He111H-22- th-cam.com/video/l2BoXSWtHcE/w-d-xo.html Revell Junkers Ju88A-1 Bomber- th-cam.com/video/Un29hOf2diM/w-d-xo.html Airfix Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb- th-cam.com/video/AKddHmJ_chs/w-d-xo.html Cheers : )
Great Job!!!
Love the Mosquito!!
How does this compare to the "new" tooled Airfix?
Frederick J. Meccia Thanks Frederick, much appreciated! Regarding comparing this to the new tooled Airfix version, I couldn't answer that as I haven't built the Airfix version. I'd suggest checking out other modelers online reviews who might have built it to see what they say about it. All I can say about this kit, being a fairly recent Tamiya kit, one can always expect great details and engineering leading to a kit that literally falls together without issues and look good when built. Cheers, Martin : )
Is this model complicated? Would it be hard for beginner? Cause I saw it for 32 Canadian bucks
Cheers 👍😃
Heyo, Great videos, Only problem is the text in the middle of the screen and the effects, perhaps add a text box. Hope this helps.
This is an old video, that was made with the extremely basic “TH-cam” editor, when I first began building models....I use “Power Director” now, rated the #1 video editor by PC World, last year.
Not counting the German ones, I have 5 favourite aeroplanes, and this is one of them!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
great build :)
temnymnich Thanks Temny, glad you liked her! : )
Beautiful plane, excellent paint job. Not sure about a successful mission though, he didn’t drop his pay load and forgot to close the bomb bay doors😂.
Thanks SIlkster, glad you like her. It was a successful mission, he didn't have to drop any bombs on the enemy, he managed to destroy the convoy by strafing them with his guns and cannons...a very conscientious and great cost savings Pilot this geezer was. Cheers : )
Hey if u like mosquitos then I recommend watching 633 squadron as its based on true events of the mosquito during ww2
Calidad llegare como el coco y me llevaré ese hermoso modelo
RAF museum quality display standards! If this isn’t your full time job, why not?
Hello Richard, thank you for watching and for your kind comment, much appreciated. This is one of my early builds when I first began modeling in 2014...it isn't near the standards I build to now. Here's a Hawker typhoon that I'm working on, but I have to build a base to display it on, with a Pilot and maybe a bench etc....then I will do a "Final Reveal" video for it: th-cam.com/video/wvYVsiTCXVg/w-d-xo.html
Cheers :)
lol.........i believe the no fingers sliced, but no spilled paint?? Get out of here, man =D
Ha ha....I learned my lesson from the first time I knocked a jar of paint over, so when I open a jar of paint, I drop it into a holder. : )
