Really good take. As a longtime Longhorn fan, we've certainly seen our share of "falling well short" football, as you aptly noted.
It seems that Sark indeed has things going the right way, and in perhaps all the key areas.
Even so, gonna take it one season--and really one game--at a time, same as last year, even when things were trending favorably.

In what way does he have us “going in the right direction?” Non-existent secondary for the 4th straight year? Starting a lackluster QB over far better backups? Injuring our star RB by running the same exact play 15x in a row last season!? Going 12-2 against inferior talent yet getting the doors blown off by Washington when it matters!?!?

So many questions but here is what I want to know. Ewers arguably had the best WR corp in the country with first round picks and a talented backfield as well. Ewers stats were pedestrian when you’re talking about a top 10 pick much less a first round pick. This next year isn’t as stacked at QB like it was this year so he may not have the competition from a draft standpoint but…..how is anyone coming to the conclusion that he will be a top ten pick and for the first time in his career show that he can be a difference maker and the reason they win games. Can he carry UT when they need him to be? So I don’t get the predictions on ewers. Second, with the losses they had on the DL and a defensive backfield that is probably the weakest position group on the team why are we thinking this team, with all of the losses and a pedestrian QB. Shine center is going to have an even better year next year than they did this last year.
OU whips their ass and talking heads want to act like UT is on a different planet and ready to compete for an SEC championship while Oklahoma will look like the sisters of the blind trying to play the SEC schedule.
Let’s say OU beats UT once again, we have owned that series for the last 12 years but we lose 2 SEC games and UT just loses one and ends up with one less loss for the year than OU does. With UT having the easier SEC schedule and OU having the hardest who do you think is both the better team and deserves the actual hype based on production and results? It’s obvious OU would be the better team in that Scenerio but with the inflated narrative of how good UT is I wouldn’t doubt they could/would be ranked higher even though the facts say something completely different.
BV won more games in year one and year 2 than Sark did, in the same league. However Sark has the program going in the right direction and on a different level than BV when again the FACTS say BV has OU’s program ahead of where Sark had Texas’s. It’s just funny that UY finally has one year, OU has had 14 Big 12 Championships to Texas’s 4, yet you would think the situation is the opposite and UT has been the one dominating.
They do it for ONE year and we act like this has been a sustainable run when we have only seen one year. So narratives do t matter yet we keep pushing g The narrative that UT is head and shoulders above OU is laughable and October can’t get here fast enough.
UT fans have been bragging about their 11 picks compared to OU’s 3. UT’s famously fat talking head Ketch even put out a tweet comparing draft picks from the last two years like UT has accomplished something while Oklahoma has fell flat on its head.
A couple of things. First PU had 3 for sure top 3 round guys return for their senior year and another couple that could have left early and been drafted and 2, if you compare what would be a realistic comparison since sark has been there 3 years and BV 2 then you should look at how many draft picks and where those draft picks went in the first two years of their tenure not the last two.
Look at where the recruiting rankings have been in their first two years. Right there the same and yet for some reason UT is so much more prepared and people are acting like there is plenty of proof showing this as fact when in reality it’s just not. Throw in we beat Texas last year and it’s funny that they feel like they are kings of the hill now after Sark had his first 10 win season ever and UT habits best season in the last 13 plus years.
As JD said what matters is what happens on the field and yes OU fans are used to listening to all of the offseason NC’s and accolades that Texas wins every year but we are also used to kicking their ass and being the program they have only been able to dream about being like.
OU has some questions no doubt but let’s not act like OU rebuilds when we have reloaded every year for the past 24 years minus one single year that wasn’t just a rebuild of the team but also like Sark, BV has changed the entire program as much as he has changed the entire roster.
So bring on October and bring on Texas. Them being so confident going into the RRR once again is always the sweetest victories for us. The more hype, the more satisfying

    • @Marckusmtrmth
      @Marckusmtrmth หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Quinn had pedestrian stats??? He was the 15th overall rated QB in 2023. He only had less than 200 yards less than your boy who left OU. He also had the same amount of int, Not as many TD's but hey, He was out Injured 2 games which every hater seems to forget. Quinn was averaging ~290 yards per game. By just the average calculation, he would have out done your boy if he'd been healthy all year. He had a few bad games and a few killer ones. Biggest question with Ewers is, can he stay healthy for a full season.
OU didn't whip Texas' ass in 2023, it was a 4 point game, seems you forget the 49-0, Actual, ASS WHOOPING of the previous year, but I digress. Every year is a new year with a new team and new opponents. Past doesn't mean much when the future is at hand.
OU Fans are as, or more, delusional than Texas fans and probably as delusional as Florida Fans. They, OU Fans, Actually believe they are going to compete for the SEC title year one in the SEC. They seem to forget that OU is still rebuilding and moving into a Killer conference with very few Kansas/Baylor teams in it. Most of the SEC middling teams could throttle about 1/2 of the Big 12 teams in the 2023 Big 12.
OU might have a "tad" harder schedule, than UT, in year one of the SEC but they had a Cakewalk for their last year in Big 12. Florida, pretty much got screwed in the SEC next year and has one of the hardest, if not the hardest schedules. If the Gators somehow, pull out better than a 6-6, it will be a successfull season, I would pick them over OU. IMHO I see UT maybe with a low of 9-3 and a high of 12-0, while I honestly see OU at with a low of 6-6 and maybe a high of 9-3. OU isn't built for the SEC yet, but they are getting there. Venebles is recruiting well, only time will tell if he's actually developing that talent. UT is ready, big bodies, speed at critical positions and a O-Line that will probably have 2-3 1st round picks next year. Biggest question is still our Secondary, which has been getting better talent, but remains unproven as of yet.
As far as the Draft, Sark has been having more and more players drafted every year. That in itself means one thing, He's developing talent for the next level. He has the 2 over all highest draftees of any draft in the Draft era for Texas. On another note, that was all the players invited to the draft that actually got drafted. Doesn't matter where they were drafted but they were drafter. Also they had 2 in the first and 3 in the second. That was also another record for UT as well. We'll see where Venebles will be next year as it will be his 3rd year as head coach of OU. Bet it's not going to be 11.
It's not all about recruiting, it's also about development and recruiting for the right positions to build a championship caliber team. Yes, we had a good season and it needs to be followed up by another good season. I believe, along with most anaylsits, that UT will be 1 or 2 at the end of the Year in the SEC, and will see another Playoff. If OU makes it to the playoffs, it will be as a bottom seed at the 9-12 spot. I'm not holding my breath on that one though.
BIG HUGE difference between what Veneables and Sark took over as programs. Venebles took over a succussful OU team, Sark took ove an "Actual" shit show that had been going on for 10+ years. Veneables actually had a pretty viable culture at OU. UT at that point didn't have any built in culture, hence the 5-7. The culture at UT is 180 deg from where it was and it's showing up.
As far as the RRS, It's a Rivalry game and anything can happen. I believe UT will come out on top, even with the tough 4 game Strech they are playing around the RRS .
