Sean here is another suggestion without marked cards ... let them shuffle their pile of cards and let them see the top card, you know how many cards they have as you noted 18 in this example. Hence their top card is 18th from the reference that you set (i.e. your top card ;>)..you can let them cut the pack a few times after they put their pile on top of yours.. Of course count the number of expected cards from your selected card..
What about if they split the pair when they lift off the cards? When I tried it for myself - I had a four and a five as the top cards. It was 10 cards lifted off, and it would work with the two fives. Please help - I’m confused! 😂

I finally got it - it doesn’t have to be a pair left on top… I got a perfect match - the card picked was KS and my cards were 6H and 7S…
