I met her when a music student at Humboldt State, CA 1992 more or less. She was in a practice room and had a performance that evening at the Eureka Auditorium where the piano was out of tune! Still, an amazing performance, and a warm human being to share a treasured moment with.

It shows the absolute best of the Romantic and the Hungarian tradition of the piano We should never forget that not so long ago, every major conductor in the US was from that same school. Singing, yes! On the internet there is a documentary about a young Dutch piano talent. In a masterclass Klara Wurtz tells her to SING the melody and be more passionate. Wonderful.

Wonderful playing of Schumann: Romantic with feeling, but with clarity and not too much pedal! Schumann has so much going on in the inner contrapuntal voices why blur them? Ms Wurtz plays with great style and delicacy, but with force where needed. I wonder if she also recorded one of my favorite works, Carnival?
