Awesome, this is extraordinarily useful as a "quickstart" guide to VCV rack. I love modular and synths in general for music-making but like most of us I can't afford a full hard synth Eurorack setup. I'm amazed at the quality of VCV for FREE! But, with so many options, this guidance is very helpful. For example, I didn't know about the Randomize option, and you gave me a lot of clarity about how the SEQ works. Basically, I'm just so excited to have such a powerful Eurorack-style synth for FREE. I watched a great comparison vid from another channel, and it's almost impossible to tell this soft synth apart from a hard synth by sound alone. We are in such a fortunate era
Great tutorial dude! As with most I was completely lost starting out with modular synths but this was a huge help! Keep the modular tutorials coming haha!
I've seen both. You can make loops, full songs, or just a synth part and run it from the DAW. Look up Omri Cohen on TH-cam. He's making full and complex songs with VCV Rack.
Maybe you can make an updated video? In version 0.6.0, VCV Rack has a Bridge VST plugin, which sends (up to 8 channels of) audio to and from the DAW. WIth that, and the MIDI modules, there are loads of possibilities of integrating Reaper and VCV Rack. Maybe you can show your audience some tricks?
Omri is making a ton of videos on VCV Rack and I posted a few to the REAPER blog reaperblog.net/2018/04/vcv-bridge_reaper/ His channel is here th-cam.com/channels/uWKHSHTHMV_nVSeNH4gYAg.html
The VCV FAQ says that a VST Bridge will be integrated in v0.6 in January. You then have access to as many tracks as you like (each bridge mirrors one access module in VCV)

Wow bless you for the "loud noise warning". most youtubers wouldn't go through the effort lol
Tried this out a while back and it's great fun.
Thanks for that Jon. Installed it - messed around - and expect to lose 40 plus hours a week in the near future playing with it.
Thanks for this. Finally I get what LFOs and VCOs are doing!
I can't thank you enough for this. This channel has been a treasure!
the ‘Jon “Not Kenny” Tidey’ nametag made me cackle and i have no sensible sounding way of explaining to other people why it’s so funny

great video Kenny!
Kenny is the best.
This is cool. I'm just getting into audio. Is this tool for constructing an instrument's sound, or for an entire background for a song?

I know he is, but he doesn't have quite the audience you do. I missed the blog post tho, as I usually just follow your channel here.
such a great tutorial, my kind of speed
I had a smaller audio interface and a mac mini sitting around. It then patches into my larger system.
What font are you using for 'The REAPER Blog' in your video?
Intro is "Goudy Trajan", not the official font selected by the designer but close enough. In the lower right it's "Drugs"
Thanks for review! Any ideas how to export sound to file or integrate it into the reaper?
Rearoute

Can you play it as an vst instrument in Reaper?
you can send the MIDI out to it and receive 8 channels of audio back using the VCV Bridge VSTi.
Very cool. Have you tried Audulus? Also very cool, but complicated AF :)
I can't wait for it to be released as VST. Until then, I'm sticking with Kamioooka.
It never will be. Upcoming VST bridge will be a one more solution to connect your DAW with Rack, but Rack itself will be standalone.
For me it worked with ReaRoute, sure you only had 8 inputs/outputs but it worked fine.
So not a vst but not to much hassel sending/recieving signals.
Thanks for the warning hahaa
