Really appreciated Michael Lerner's questions in this interview - so wide-ranging across many spheres of knowledge, and then also able to go to the personal level. Beautifully done!

Beatrice: I'm an LPCC-S and have been practicing a decade. I'm in Philly now, but was originally licensed in Ohio. I've been loving all of your videos, am eating up the Enneagram wisdom, and I'm known for being this dogmatic EBP clinician among my colleagues. So, when they saw I was so into this, I think that inspired them to check it out, too, because I've got a handful of us chatting about it together now! I hope this message gives you hope for the integration of this into our field, because it's fantastic and, for me, being a 1 is such a more accurate descriptor of who I am, much moreso than being an ENTP. Of course, this is only my experience (not saying it's better than the MBTI), but I also think having the 9 levels of health and the directions of 7 and 4 are more prescriptive to my life than any other inventory I've ever taken. That direction is invaluable to me! Keep spreading the message!

As a Christ-follower; I know that I first, find my 'identity' in Him. But, I like that we have the enneagrams, all the cognitive functions, the way we grew up which can have an impact... So, that it can all be used as a tool for better growth and better relationships. But, realising we are all individually uniquely created and are not just our "stereotypical" types.

@1:00 Pride got hijacked years ago and its original meaning was misconstrued. that's why we have the expression, "pride before a fall"

One of the most frustrating things about
conversations about the Enneagram is the unrelenting orientalist perspective that tends to pervade the outlook that proclaimed leaders in understanding the system hold. The last portion of this talk was so frustrating to listen to. I have been watching all of Commonweal's videos on the Enneagram to deepen my understanding of it, and trying to ignore the orientalist comments that pop up here and there. But the end of this talk was just too much. Yet another white man relying on tired and misinformed tropes about Asian countries being "deferential." This is so harmful and does nothing but reify horrid boundaries. This flattens an entire people--the largest populations on Earth. So disappointing and angering.

I completely agree. I'm learning so much from this series but those unchallenged comments are really upsetting and off-putting.

I view Judaism as being very much a 1 culture. Both now and historically there is an emphasis on the litigious. Famous Jewish figures such as Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld I believe are ones. Much of the Old Testament is marked by themes of God's anger and wrath. Moses and other prophets often function as reformers, Moses in particular. The Judges also come to mind.

Bible says were "asleep" too or "slumbering"..... I think the enneagram is from King Solomon (wisest man that ever lived) coming from Judaism. And its traveled the world being used by a variety of other faiths since. It shows us mankind's generational iniquity from the fall of Adam and Eve. And this could be used as a way to become "righteous". Before Yeshua came and set the captives free with repentance from the adversary's behind each number. I agree they were probably gods/satans/devils etc behind each number/sin as you suggested.

The literal connection to Homer is a far stretch. It’s okay to recognize the mysteries of archetypal patterns without contorting ancient history to validate your personal interests. It brings me no joy to make this criticism because I enjoyed the bulk of the presentation.

I think you're right in sensing "Fiveness" but I think that is just an artifact of the type of information being presented. Her twoness shined through when she spoke of the death of her friend's son and was deeply affected. Fives, in my experience as a five, aren't prone to feeling that deep sentimentality in the context of being deep in Five and presenting information. I can talk about painful memories to anyone without feeling any of the pain, because I'm a head type.

I believe the only thing that's "laughable" is your understanding of the Enneagram. Healthy 2s appear as 4s.. perhaps she's just a healthy 2w1 appearing as a 4w5

@@jfish032 The theory that healthy or unhealthy types look like another number is false. 2 goes to both 4 and 8, up and down, equally, whether healthy or not, it doesnt create more 4ness.
