  • Once again I decided to visit one of the municipalities of Malaga, in this case Benalmádena, a place with a lot to offer in the heart of the Costa del Sol.
Benalmádena is just 16 kilometers from Malaga and just over 35 from Marbella, where we started. For my part, I had been to Benalmádena many times but I had never known it in depth and I barely knew its history or the places I was going to see. A few days before I was looking at what to see in Benalmádena and I was surprised by the number of monuments and places of interest it offered. To begin with, it must be said that Benalmádena has three population centers, so we were going to travel a few times by car to be able to reach the different destinations.
The first place we visited was the Stupa of Enlightenment, a meditation place with a large room inside containing an image of Buddha. This stupa can be seen from the highway as it measures 33 meters high and 25 square meters at the base, it is enormous. Next to the Stupa of Illumination is the Benalmádena Butterfly Garden, the largest in Europe.
Once our visit to the area was over, we headed to the castle that appears most to me on Instagram, which is the Colomares Castle, a place that seems straight out of a story. This castle is a tribute to Columbus and the discovery of America, I found it impressive and without a doubt one of the essential things to see in Benalmádena and the entire province of Malaga. To continue seeing emblematic places of this municipality in southern Andalusia we headed to Benalmádena Pueblo where we walked through its narrow streets and enjoyed wonderful views from around the oldest church in Benalmádena, the Church of Santo Domingo, which dates back to the 17th century. After eating we headed to Parque de la Paloma which is located in Benalmádena Costa, there we took a walk along part of its 200,000 meters. Very close to Parque de la Paloma was our next destination, the El Bil Bil Castle, a castle of different Arab styles built in 1930 and which today is a cultural center. To finish our visit to Benalmádena we headed to its gigantic and original port, Puerto Marina, where we enjoyed a fantastic winter sunset.
