Terry Fox is the greatest athlete to ever live. After losing his leg to cancer, he set off to raise awareness for cancer by running across Canada. He ran an average of 26 miles per day for 143 days, covering 5300km, on one leg, in harsh weather. In Thunder Bay he discovered the cancer had returned in his lungs forcing him to stop his run. He passed away soon after, just days before his 23 birthday. The Terry Fox run is now the worlds largest one day cancer fundraiser and has raised over 850 million dollars in his name.
The equivalent of a marathon a day for 143 days on one leg is astounding. After an American friend of mine read more about Terry, he said we should name a province after him, not just a day.
A) That effort is so far, far beyond unfathomable and amazing, I'd could only have been achieved by the greatest athlete. B) It is so sad that he didn't get to live a long life. Imagine all the great things he could have achieved if he had gotten 50 or 60 or even 70 more years on this earth!?
French is taught in every school in Canada and french schools can be found in nearly every town and city. Quebec is both a city and a province. As a Canadian I love these videos.

Naturally, Albertans not interested, nor is their neighbour Saskatchewan. French though is provided as an elective in those provinces. My kids in BC had mandatory French from grade 4 through to Grade 11. Yes yes it may have changed since 1970s to 1990s when my kids attended. In 1960s it was mandatory grade 8 to grade 11 but in grade 12 you could choose German (I was in a small country high school) if you wanted. Times change. I’m happy 2 of my grandkids are completely bilingual in English French and attend a French Immersion school thanks to their parents paving way for Federal Government occupations as an option. I mean why not. I live in a French community where French lumberjacks first settled in BC - called Maillardville and has quite a few French inspired buildings and apartments. I quite like it and besides who wouldn’t want to travel with ease in Paris or Nomandy or the French Riviera. It’s a wonderful country!
Someone said spot the Ontarian Bagged bill is also a regional thing. Just like being bilingual. It's useful in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick; so it's taught there, the prairies dont give enough shits to make it mandatory. Youd find it as an elective like taking Spanish or German class there.
@Casey Anthony UFC I am Canadian and i speak both french and english, i'm also from Quebec. May people around you are not interested to speak french, but french is for sure a official langage, not only english. I hate people who try to forced me to speak english when i daily speak french. ^^
You are so darn lovable. Being such a good sport is why we Canadians love you. And we sincerely appreciate you learning about us. I was talking to you all the way through, as if you could hear me cheering you on!!! 🇨🇦💙
Dude definitely needs a wildlife lesson (I'm pretty sure most adult Canadians would know all 13 animals that were native to Canada), but his enthusiasm is endearing.
other than the wiggly status if a MARINE animal being native to a COUNTRY. The killer whale I know is in Canadian waters, but wasn't sure if it counted.
Honestly you could get there by process of elimination for ones that definitely aren't. Pythons and leopards are more rainforests as far as I know, koalas and kangaroos are Australian, tigers are Asian, and alligators are American (and Chinese after googling).
Pierre Trudeau is Justin Trudeau's father and was a Prime Minister of Canada in the past. He is known for, among other things, proposing and seeing ratified the Constitution Act 1982, which included the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
He is also well known for giving Alberta the middle finger because they didn’t want to sell their oil to eastern Canada for pennies compared to what it was actually worth
@hestoceles Oh please. Grow up and quit playing the victim. Alberta needs to quit victim playing, Alberta was being selfish as hell not wanting to allow Canada to benefit from its oil. And Albertans still don’t understand Canada as a whole is greater than the sum it’s parts.
Pierre Trudeau also alleviated the housing crisis of the 1970s by creating MURB that saw the building of over 197,000 low income affordable housing units across Canada. But then when conservatives took power, they defunded the program and cut funds to low income housing, at the time deinstitutionalization was also occurring which resulted in massive homelessness.
@@Liberal_From_Prairies689 It could be seen as selfish when the east wants to take something and not pay a fair price for it. A lot of peoples livelihoods depend on oil in Alberta and when they aren’t getting a fair price it can ruin ordinary peoples lives.
I love your channel, you are often clueless about Canada facts (youre getting better!) but it is endearing because you are so humble and good humoured in your presentation. Keep it up.
That's exactly how I'd describe the feeling I get when he's reacting to all things Norway. I don't expect anyone from anywhere in north America to know much about little Norway, so I'm just surprised and happy that he wants to learn. He is very endearing, honest and humble. 👍
Maybe if your weather network included all of North America, you might have an idea about our weather. We laugh at American tourists who arrive in July with skiis and ask where the snow is. License plates often are from northern states.
As the most humble American I've ever seen, I commend you for even trying to learn about your northern cousins! You did better than most would have I'm sure. (ie) first American I met in Florida, asked me if I lived in an igloo! I actually had so much fun doing that test along with you and got 2 wrong myself. And I agree, that last question was naughty of the quiz masters! The other one I got wrong (second choice), was Chinese being the 2nd most common language spoken. I have to admit, that I might struggle naming, on a map, all 50 States at this point. I suggest you do a little Canadian geography (4th-5th grade stuff here) It's actually easier than yours! Take Care, enjoying your channel immensely!!!
I laughed so many times during this quiz.I think you should do a live stream where you give your Canadian viewers an American Quiz so we can answer in real time. And you can laugh at us.
@@Janewomanpower it is a blanket statement, but like, i havent watched the whole video yet, just the start. but july 4th, the animal is the bald eagle. population around 330 million, etc, etc
Either way technically it would be correct for king as the Monarchy of the United Kingdom is the Head if State of Canada but the constitution of Canada and UK has made the role of the Monarchy a ceremonial role
During the time of the war in 1812, Canada was actually a colony of Great Britain. Also, you did great answering these questions; I did holler "wooo" a few times out loud!

You did so well! When you got to the question about provinces and you clicked all the right answers, but were debating, I was yelling at you to submit because I knew you would be so happy that you got that one right. The last question re Canadian born people, I didn’t realize they were all Canadian, but my husband had come to see what I was watching and at first glance he knew they were all Canadian. So we were laughing when you started clicking, not yet realizing they were all Canadians, and then your reaction was priceless. You’ve come so far! You should be proud!

Do you think anyone other than Canadians watch this channel? I like to think so but from the comments, I'm thinking this channel might be only reaching those of us already here!
LOL I've watched some of your Videos on Canada, and this one was great and made me laugh, especially the reaction to getting the provinces correct. I appreciate your interest in my Country and your respectful way of of doing it. :)
oh terry fox is a good topic to do a video on, most schools ive been to still hold anual terry fox runs where they raise awareness for cancer as well as promote fitness, its such a normal thing here that i forgot it was only in canada
we have a Terry Fox Elementary in Abbotsford BC. There is also Terry Fox Secondary somewhere in the Lower Mainland. Terry Fox was a true hero cut down in his prime.
I'd love to see a video on Terry Fox! I remember his run, and its tragic end from when I was very young, and he is truly a Canadian hero. I could never take part in my school's Terry Fox runs because of my own disabilities, but I would always do what I could and make posters and art for them, and collect donations on behalf of my sister, who ran it every year. Rick Hansen is worth looking into as well - he was a mentor to Terry Fox, as a disabled athlete who eventually crossed every continent in the world in his wheelchair, to raise money for research into spinal cord injuries (Rick Hansen was paralysed from the waist down in a car accident), and to prove that people with disabilities are capable of amazing things.
@@RogersMgmtGroup it is in Port Coquitlam. It is where he went to high school in the 1970s and played basketball and did distance running. They renamed it after him after his passing to honour him for his achievement.
I get the impression from your comment that you forgot it was only in Canada that you were probably born after he attempted his run across Canada or you were very young.
As a Canadian... all I can say is that you are pretty awesome taking an interest in our wonderful Country. English and French are the two official languages at the federal level only. At the provincial/territorial level, New Brunswick is the only official bilingual province. The territories are far more interesting. Nunavut has three official languages: English, French and Inuit and Inuit is further broken down into Iniunnaqtun and Inuktitut depending on which area of the territory you live in. The Yukon has ten official languages: English, French, Gwich’in, Hän, Tanana, Southern Tutchone, Northern Tutchone, Tagish, Tlingit and Kaska. The Northwest Territories has eleven official languages: English, French, Chipewyan, Cree, North Slavey, South Slavey, Tlicho, Gwich’in, Inuvialuktun, Inuuinnaqtun and Inuktitut.
French and English have equal status according to the Canadian Constitution. However some provinces only require French and English for some government jobs, others take it more seriously and have a much larger French speaking population. Some territories also chose to call certain native languages as part of their official languages. Edit: As a Canadian I loved all your Canada videos but it would be cool to see other countries as well (even ones I don't know much about)
Especially in Quebec. I don't live there but when i worked at a retail store some of the trucks came from there and boy, they spoke heavy French and they could barely speak English at all, if they could it was hard to understand them.
Canada(federally) is OFFICIALLY bilingual -so all federal government services/employees must be bilingual - however, Provinces are different and individually may be one or the other/or both and or include indigenous languages - and many offer provincial services in both.
@@wjdietrich you don't have to be bilingual to work federally but there has to be an offer or service in french and if someone wants to be served in french they have to find someone who speaks French.
I’m Canadian and you did better than I would have. I probably would have gotten about a 70% which is a C. As for the test itself, it was cruel so I have a hard time believing it was made by a fellow Canadian but who knows, either way you handled it like a champ and it was also interesting and informative. You literally taught at least this Canadian a little about his home country he didn’t know. 👏🏼
I'm an American and lived in Canada and the "average" Canadian is poorly educated and has an inferiority complex towards the "average" American 🤣. No matter what you do you can't make Americans notice you lol.
good for you excellent actually. I’ve been following your journey, And really enjoyed your learning about our country. just so you know, I was cheering you on with the provinces of Canada that had all the cities mixed in and I’m very proud of you on that one. The last question I knew all the answers to but it was kind of a nasty situation not having the all of the above I give you an A+. you have watched you have listened and you have learned and you’re a really good neighbour to Canada🥰🇨🇦🇺🇸
Tyler, this quiz was pretty good, but I was really disappointed that the writers of the quiz don't know the difference between Rick Nash (a former NHL hockey player and #1 draft pick, overall, in 2002) who is mentioned in the 15 Canadians in the last question and Steve Nash, a 2 time NBA MVP, 8 time all-star with the 4th most assists all-time, in his NBA career and current coach of the Brooklyn Nets, of whom they were obviously thinking...lol. You're certainly retaining some of what you've learned. Well done...:)
Nice going on that quiz! I love your reactions when you get something right the first time. I just watched this video with my 8 yr old niece, who's home sick from school today, here in the lovely city of Hamilton, Ontario. She nailed every question, and had a lot of giggles for the "funny American guy", in spite of her nasty kid-cold. She especially loved the confusion over the Prince Edward Island trick question, since my sister and bro-in-law had taken the kids on a month long trip to Nova Scotia and PEI just this summer! Thanks for learning about our country, good job on the quiz, and thanks for this video that made a sick kid laugh today!
As a kid, we vacationed in PEI once. My older sister went to see the Anne of Green Gables play. I swam at red sand beaches --despite the large number of jellyfish (now called sea jellies). Didn’t get stung! (Fist pump!)
As someone with experience in questionnaire design, this quiz did have definite design flaws! A response option of ‘all of the above’ should not require you to check all options AND all of the above. Also the way they scored multiple response options was poorly executed . You did great! 👏🏼 😊🇨🇦
Seriously! I was cringing so hard... But given that getting some answers right within a same question, that explains why he got 80% and not 66.6666666 as anything he clicked that was right gave him points and I think it smart as it's more representative of the actual knowledge he's gained.
When question design clashes with web page design. The design decision allowing test takers to click post answering to fish for the answers had to allow discovery of each possible correct answer. So. It’s klunky, but for a reason.
Hey Tyler Bucket, (Bouquet in Britcom land 😂) Great show! I really appreciate you learning as much about our little country as we know of yours. Keep teaching bud!

By ‘our’ do you mean American? As in Canadians situated in big cities and on university campuses hate on the US? Sorry, just looking for clarification.
@@jjbigfoot9077 we only throw shade at those Americans who deserve it. Like the ones who support political drumpf. We already went through a populist leader who tried to label media as fake news, tried to create a white "Christian" nationalist nation, tried to stifle and muzzle scientists who disagreed with him, and even made statements like "when I'm done with Canada, you won't recognize it". You know. Stephen Harper. The head of the IDU. The group of globalist elites that give marching orders to the likes of Orban, Modi, Bolsonaro, Morrison, Ergodan, Johnson, and even drumpf. Just to clarify, Quebec city's official name in both Canadian French and Canadian English is Québec with the accent. Even though we are in 2022, lots of softwares don't work well with accents (my name on my diploma was nearly Jo@?lle) and so people sometimes just write Quebec without the accent. In Québec (the province), people will refer to the city just as Québec and we know from context and the preposition preceeding Québec if we are talking about the city or the province. (à Québec = city; au Québec = province).
It's great that Tyler wants to learn about Canada. 22:10 Victoria is the capital of British Columbia and is located in Canada's only Mediterranean climate (the warm summer variety,) it sees a February average of 8.6C (that's roughly 46-48F when all rounding is accounted for) and there is even a commercial olive farm on nearby Salt Spring Island. On average, the BC coast enjoys some of the mildest winters in the country since the temperatures are moderated by the Pacific Ocean and the mountains block a lot of Arctic air (interior regions can be a lot colder and snowier but get progressively milder further south.) While the coast generally sees lower snowfall, it gets a lot of winter rain (it's not called a *rainforest* for nothing.) The west coast is also the *only* part of Canada that can grow cold-hardy palms *without* winter protection as the plant hardiness zones range between *8a & 9b* (the highest in Canada) by the water. To give you an idea about the moderating effect of the ocean (and just how *vast* Canada is) I’m going to compare Prince Rupert, BC (which is just south of *Alaska)* to four other Canadian cities. Prince Rupert averages 6C (43F) in February compared to -8C (18F) in St. Anthony, NL (a coastal town which sits at roughly the same latitude) 1C (34F) in Kingsville, ON (the southernmost incorporated town in Canada) and 0C (32F) in both Halifax & Toronto (which are generally ranked as two of the mildest major cities in winter outside of BC.)
Next door to me is a condo complex with palm trees out front. There are also some palm trees in the west end by the beach park. So we grow palm trees in Vancouver too.

The lowest annual snowfall is pretty easy for most Canadians. We know that coastal BC is pretty temperate and known for not much snow fall it is also the capital of British Columbia, Regina is middle of Canada where there is quite a bit of snow and Toronto being between the great lakes gets lake effect snow.

@@hestoceles Really. You must be a blast at parties 🥳.

Now that was funny
He does it for views but when the camera is off, he talks shit about Canada like 90% of Americans or 95% of Canadians talk bad about Americans.
Maybe if your weather network included all of North America, you might have an idea about our weather. We laugh at American tourists who arrive in July with skiis and ask where the snow is. License plates often are from northern states.
Now that I have watched the video. I noticed some glaring errors. Pronunciation especially. Makes me think that the video wasn't made in Canada.
The best reaction he has is for Question 15 for the third most spoken language in Canada. His shock is genuine and funny at the same time.
As the most humble American I've ever seen, I commend you for even trying to learn about your northern cousins! You did better than most would have I'm sure. (ie) first American I met in Florida, asked me if I lived in an igloo! I actually had so much fun doing that test along with you and got 2 wrong myself.

English and French are the two official languages at the federal level only. At the provincial/territorial level, New Brunswick is the only official bilingual province. French and English have equal status according to the Canadian Constitution. However some provinces only require French and English for some government jobs, others take it more seriously and have a much larger French speaking population. Some territories also chose to call certain native languages as part of their official languages.

It's just like New York.
I'm from Victoria, and I agree with this reply.
People in BC are getting gouged on everything they buy.
Next door to me is a condo complex with palm trees out front. There are also some palm trees in the west end by the beach park. So we grow palm trees in Vancouver too.

Edit: product labels have to be printed in both languages
I think the only non bilingual province is Manitoba
I’m from Manitoba and we have all labels in both languages as well as French schools I don’t know what makes a province bilingual but just thought I’d say that we do have those things
@@Miss_Witch13we also have a massive French population in certain areas, dude just doesn’t know what he’s talking about
@@normandrivet1626 There is only 1 official bilingual Province and that is New Brunswick. The rest are only English or French provincially. That is why Provincial parks/offices are only in 1 language but National parks/offices are in both English and French.
You did very well Tyler! Kudos for your efforts in learning more about us 😊
Well done. I have met or talked to many from the USA. Sadly some had little to no knowledge about Canada. You should be proud.
Great progress on learning about Canada. You are on to something, I check out your other videos you do on Norway and United Kingdom. Is there any others I am missing?
Congratulations. You would pass the citizenship test with flying colours! Canada is officially bilingual (French/English) which means that all federal government services are provided in both languages across the country, and that a variety of other services (health, education etc.) are provided in the second language (English in Québec or French outside of Québec) where numbers warrant it. New Brunswick is the only officially bilingual province, which means that all provincial services are also provided in both languages. Québec is officially French only and the other eight provinces are English only. We also have all of our packaging in both languages. Quebec tried to separate in 1980 and 1995: in 1995, 49% voted to separate, 51% voted to stay.
as a canadian this was both funny and painful lol, Wayne Gretzky is the most famous hockey player and i found it funny how you were just like “he must’ve been pretty darn good!” keep up the amazing work and you have gained a new sub🫶🏻
You did well. Thanks for educating Americans.
I laughed when I saw the last question. A majority of Canadians MAY have gotten them all but many would not have.
"One eyed cows jumping rope"... LMAO you are so funny!!! You did well on that quiz, congrats, you officially know more about Canada than most any other American. I really liked this video and would like to see more of these type of videos as well as your reaction videos.
My friend was standing by as I watched and she failed. Did I mention that her ancestral DNA has been in Canada since the war of 1812. You did a great job!!!
Your comments and reactions were SO much like my own internal dialogue during tests haha!
Having followed your series on things to do with Canada (which I love and hope you continue to make), the quiz at this point was a great idea. I did find myself screaming at the screen a couple of times yelling, "YOU LEARNED THIS ONE ALEADY". You did well. Very entertaining. And educational.
Oh my gosh. I was rooting for you all the way. You’re truly adorable and entertaining.
That was fun watching you take this quiz. Here, in Ontario, 80% would be an A unless things have changed in the 30+ years since I was a student. Congratulations, you did well :)
Not when I was going to school an A was 86% and up. B was 73%-85%....BC schooling.
@@nucl3arboNg I should have been provincial specific. I know that each province does many things differently from one another. I just always think of Canada as a 'whole' Country, not split up into individual areas / communities with their own traits, traditions and lifestyle :)
Yep, this video was very enjoyable - laughed so much 😂❤
Both beavers and Polar bears are on our currency. The toonie ($2 coin) has the polar bear, and the nickel ($0.05 coin) has the beaver. Victoria is on the island to the west of British Columbia, it is basically a rain forest, it has the largest rainfall per year throughout all of Canada. There is a town in the north of Manitoba ( Churchill) along Georgian Bay that is known as the polar bear capital of the world, as a very large population of polar bears migrate to this town every year , as it is the place where the ice starts to freeze first. Quite a large area of Nunavut s actually above the Article circle.
You've learned a lot. BTW, the beaver is the national animal of Canada because of beaver pelts traded and sold by the Hudson's Bay Company.
The look on your face at ‘that’s just cruel’.😂😂😂
Très bon!
Very good!
From Quebec City in Quebec province!
Quebec is a city AND a province.
The spirit of Canada is definitely with you. ❤ You have learned a great deal about Canada and your tests proves it.
