    Adam, I am a native Floridian and I want you to know how much I am enjoying your "hometown" Florida series:) I'm 65 now but I remember driving on vacation going through these towns and seeing Citrus Trees for miles and miles. The towns were bustling with people back in the "olden days"- now not so many Citrus Trees and not so many bustling towns but I remember and want to Thank You for the updates. Your one in a million Adam and you have a knack for knowing what people want and need to see in these times. I wish you all the best life has to offer. Your such a good person.

    As a UK resident who visited Florida for vacation every year for over 40 years, I love your videos showing the old small towns and history of earlier Florida. I also enjoyed driving to out of the way non tourist towns and exploring the old buildings. I'm too old to visit the USA (80 years) now due to health reasons. I love viewing your videos, brings back so many wonderful memories of my time in your wonderful State.

    The small building on the golf course was the Pro Shop. My Grandparents lived there 40 years. My Great Grandparents lived in Babson Park. The Mini Mac was once owned by the Macalisters. There was a Grocery Store and Post Office that was the "heart" of Babson Park.

    • @stillnessbetween5103
      @stillnessbetween5103 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bags are to help keep the trees safe from "greening" disease. It is carried by a very small mite. The disease was devastating to most of the citrus trees in Florida.
      It was so bad that many municipalities were cutting down and burning all citrus, even on private land. I lost a beautiful variegated pink lemon and a tangerine tree to the
      disease.

    I used to live in Spring Hill Fl population 119,000 people and really did not like it, way too many people. Then I recently moved to Tavares Fl and love it. Population estimated at 18,500 people. The downtown area is very quaint and historic as is the town of Mount Dora. There are plenty of antique shops and also has a lot of history. These town and more are part of central Florida and I believe would be of great interest for up coming videos of "Hidden Small Towns in Central Florida". As you would travel north on SR 441 heading towards Ocala there are a number of towns that might just fit your requirements for hidden small towns. Just a thought for you to capture more of the small hidden town experience of central Florida.
    Let me know your thoughts on this, okay?

    My dad moved us to this part of Florida the year Disney opened. We came from north New Jersey so it was a culture shock for me a young teen. He became one of the head administrators for one of the big phosphate mines. I did however learn to love this part of Florida. My dad was actually ask to name a lake on the property owned by US Agrichem so it could be properly put on the map. He named it after my mom and it’s hidden by Fort Meade. I left the area in the late 80’s. Your lovely video brings me back home for sure. Thanks so much for sharing this with all to see. God bless.

    The first building you stopped at in Lake Wales was originally Jim Maggards Auto Service. He was there for 40+ years and currently has 4 warehouses full of classic cars. The murals around Lake Wales were originally painted by Tom Freeman, my High School Guidance Counselor. They were repainted as they aged by various local artists. He currently has a painting hanging in the White House considering he's one of the most famous Nature Artists in America. In Highland Park the building you are looking at was the Pro Shop for the Golf Course. Originally it was called Highland Park Golf Course then was bought and renamed Lekarica. It went out of business about 4-5 years ago. Babson Park and Hillcrest Heights were built on the shores of the largest lake in Polk County...Crooked Lake (or if you are a Native you know it as Lake Caloosa). It's 7 miles long and 4 miles wide with a large island in the center.

    Coming back to my county! Dang you went right my home too! so many interesting things that aren't in the big cities! Don't forget t check as many of these towns have bi-annual festivals which are IMHO very fun to attend. Ya know this is one of my favorite videos you have done this year! I'm putting this one on my facebook page!

    That was like ramblin' about in the van! I was still hoping for the Grand Hotel opening, too. Whatever happened to Big the Foot's bagpipes?

    Love seeing The Grand Hotel and so glad it's still there. Stunning building and history, shame it sits empty. Cheers
