    I agree man, I'm a 35 year old with a home, family, and career. I don't want my PC to look like a tricked out 2002 Honda civic with rainbow under lights. I'd prefer a box that cools well and has a more sophisticated look to it. I begrudgingly buy a lot of the "gamer" marketed hardware simply due to the performance of them or the featureset on them (eg, I love Asus's OC switcher) but I'd really prefer if they looked sleek rather than trying to look like a transformer.

      Ive given up on the cases, nothing ever fits perfectly and you end up paying to solve problems. Now I'm using 2020 aluminum extrusion and picking up 3-5mm thick aluminium sheets off eBay. Making some lovely sleek cases. Kinda late 80's themed with all the black metal, some of those vacuum tube aida64 displays from Ali express and a whole lot of chrome parts and brushed brass. Ohh and copper tinted window side panel 😍. more late 80's than mid 90', executive themed I guess 😂 but mainly compact. I hate big pc's, unnecessary and they look cheap and badly (no thought) designed.
      You can get it all into a case the same dimensions as an atx board if you get to choose where the main parts go.

      I thought they were all trolling. Trying to one up the other for release day laughs. It’s that silly. The averages age of a purchaser is probably over 30. I’m 40. There are a few thousand younger streamers that can afford them but other than that the buyers are older because we have money. My first car was 2200 bucks. My first decent bicycle was the same and I was 13 but that’s a special story of starting a business mowing lawns so I could afford my dream racing go kart that o bought when I was 10 so I could become a pro F1 driver. Only thing was I didn’t have the support. Dad took me twice. Ended up racing it around the streets and got in trouble. Sold it for a bike.. anyway 😂🍻

    Some turbulence in the blades is in fact a good thing. True it is a bit less efficient (who cares...), but turbulence avoids resonant frequencies and makes the sound more pleasant (not lower at all, but subjectively more pleasant for humans , someway closer to white sound). Noctua also use it on its fans and they have published some literature about this effect.

    • @PainterVierax
      @PainterVierax 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @iskierka8399
      @iskierka8399 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sharkskin as-correctly-applied also increases turbulent flow; because of something of an obsession with laminar flow there's a lot of misinformation that assumes it must be the other way and so confidently states it, but you will pretty much never get laminar flow from making things *rougher*, and in general true laminar flow is very hard to achieve - so generally the preference is to go for more turbulent flow, but with better control of it (as turbulent has several advantages like better flow adhesion).
      That said, Gigabyte's surfaces do not look like they would produce useful turbulence at all, and instead just encourage flow detachment - Noctua generates the turbulence with micro-detail that you can barely see for a reason.

    Turbulant flow on top of an airfoil is actually helpful, It keeps the air attatched which could allow them to have a meanigful pressure difference at lower fan RPMs. You can see the same thing on the leading edge of some aircraft. They are called vortex generators, they allow the aircraft to fly at higher angles of attack, which allows for slower flight before stall. There is an overall increase in drag though.

Why? Because of the kerfuffle about bending these cables, I want to know how much clearance I need for the side panel. Now that you have cut that wrapping open, I now know it's hard plastic and can't be bent, and I need to take that into account. Whereas the Corsair cable can be bend much closer to the connector. So for the sense wires- its possible they are voltage loss detectors. I race RC cars, and we charge the lipos for them VERY fast. Like a 4000-6000mah battery gets charged to 40amps. So the charge cables have the main power feed, and then theres 3 sense wires, to read the individual cell voltages. These are small signal wires. And all they do is connect to as close to the battery as possible and go to a separate port on the charger so it can see voltage at the end of the wire, without the charge or discharge amps dropping or raising the voltage. Theres readouts for both on the charger and over 5amps it gets to be a very large voltage.
    If thats how these sense wires work as well, it is simply to see the voltage before it gets to the card. That way the GPU can know if theres a bad connection or its just voltage sag under load. Actually pretty simple but useful metric for a card that will use huge power spikes. And honestly I hope that connectors go through some improvements before it burns any ones houses down. I started building PCs in the 90s and im glad Molex connectors are almost gone, they are terrible. These arent much better though.

    POWER CABLES:
    Currently PCIE Gen 5 supports this 8+4 pin connector as a direct 450-600w connector for power supplies that support it. Most dont yet and so this is where the 4 to 1 connectors come from. Corsair power supplies support a higher level of wattage through 2 connectors in their 1000 and 1200w power supplies which is how they cut down on cable clutter.
    The 4 pins that are sensor pins are specific to PCIE 5 supported power supplies otherwise they run to ground.

    I feel like the consumer has outgrown this "2005's Shadow The Hedgehog" culture and so should the industry. We barely have two color options for PC parts and also very little shape choices. The only thing you can truly customize is RGB, which became so over the top that's basically a meme in itself at this point. Brands slapping it into everything and boom, it's a "gamer" part now, definitely worth twice the price. That's why I love Intel's A770 naming and design, for example, as unfinished as those cards are. They at least look at lot more timeless. But we're still nowhere near where we should.
    I've been wanting to build a gray/gold PC inspired by Zone of the Enders' Jehuty for some years now and it'll be a lot harder and more expensive than it should simply by how much more I'll have to make myself. Sure, customizing and building your own pc is fun, but painting graphics cards and AIO cables isn't.

    those 2 unconnected cables at the new 12vhpwr connector is PWR_STABLE and CBL_PRES# pins. PWR_STABLE is self explanatory, and CBL_PRES# has 2 functions, to check if the connector is properly attached to a 12vhpwr connector, and provides communication with the PSU about it's power budgeting if several cards are connected. But, the old 8 pins do not have those communication functions with ATX 2.0 PSUs, so they were left open. it's optional pins anyway, at least according to Intel spec. the other 2 pins are just sense1 and sense0 for 4 different variety of 12vhpwr connector (150W, 300W, 450W, and 600W), basically if both of them are connected to gnd, you have a 600w 12vhpwr connector, so both of those 2 pins should be connected to ground for the 4090.

    The 4 sideband pins on the 12VHPWR connector are part of the ATX 3.0 specification with 2 of them being optional. Seems like a way of coordinating between the power supply and the graphics card. The none optional connectors signal from the PSU to the GPU how much power is available (both shorted to ground means up to 600W). The other two are likely for the GPU to signal to the PSU about how much power it requires - perhaps to enable different PSU operating modes to maximise efficiency or to avoid the PSU overload issues that were seen early with the 3000 series (before the driver tweaks).

With Fractal torrent case fans on low after 1 hour of intense gaming GPU temps are rarely over 68-73C and memory always under 78C. Fans are very quiet. Very elegant and refined card. My advice is if you are looking at 4090 I would look into FE over 3rd party (more power consumption, heat)

While the 4090 has the 12+4 pin adapter. So im wondering, if the 3090 TI who has the same plug as the 4090 worked without the need of those 4 pins. Shouldnt the 4090 do the same? Or do you NEED those 4 pins? The 3090 TI and 4090 PCBs are not that different. So in theory, what worked on the 3090 TI, should work on the 4090.

    So given the design of those fans, under normal circumstances the suction side of an aerofoil is what does most of the work, but I’m really skeptical that such a design isn’t just going to cause the airflow to detach, I don’t think they’re going to create coherent vortices with that injection molded mess.
    But their marketing is clearly false as in a static pressure situation, that type of fan is almost completely stalled and the suction side won’t be doing anything.

    Aerospace engineer here. Not saying the shark skin claims are true, they are 100% not true (no way are they getting 30% increase in anything from this), but from an airflow standpoint the statement you made about laminar vs turbulent airflow is false. It is far more complex than that obviously, but the best way to think of it is in terms of a golf ball. A smooth ball will not go as far because the turbulent airflow at the surface caused by the divets actually allows for a more laminar flow overall. The same is true in this case. The rough surface makes it easier for the boundary layer of air to "detach" from the surface and in the end likely allows for a smoother more efficient flow overall. This also has the added benefit of less noise and list drag so the fan can spin more freely through the air. Hope that makes sense. I tried to explain it as simply as I could. Love the videos!
