- Today we showcase a few creative uses of the Square barrier spell.as well as a certain mushroom spell
Mod I used for this are ,Cheatgui and Spell Labs.
however everything can be built in vanilla Noita
Enjoy
Modder's perspective on saws going left:
Barriers have 0 velocity by default, and a projectile with 0 velocity is always facing right. Giga saw accelerates backwards towards it's spawn location, making it go away from the right, firing towards the left!
Thanks for making these great videos, you have a really good way of explaining things and present really well!
Audio is still very quiet. Videos are superb as always. Just difficult to hear.
Thank you for telling me
@@polio860 would agree that the overall audio is quite but the balance is close to good, maybe just 5-10% more mic volume and then boost the video master volume 10-20% for the next one?
20% increase would be much better imo
@@polio860 I would recommend doing some audio tests where you try talking very closely to your mic at a level close to your inputs peak without going over (often indicated by a red light on the input). I can tell you boosted this one which is good but you’re also boosting the noise which my previous tip can help cut out. Another thing you can do is put a noise gate on your audio chain that only opens when you talk and closes otherwise. This way you’ll only hear noise when you’re talking and when it will hopefully be masked by your voice. I’d love to help more so if you want we can exchange discords and get in touch. I like what you’re doing!
@BetaTester704 no, they just need to target their dB to be around whatever the standard is for youtube. Probably -15 or so. Just no need to be subjective with that
I'm not a noita scientist but if I had to guess, I'd say that the spawned projectiles from the spore pods are probably programmed as enemy projectiles and instead of seeking creatures, it seeks the player instead.
Since homing doesn't usually affect the spores from the spore pod, converting the projectile suddenly adds homing to the projectile and since the converted projectile is keeping the hostile projectile property after conversion, it somehow acquires player homing instead of creature homing. Usually the homing spell always targets creatures; this is why a creature holding and firing a wand with homing on it doesn't have the projectile target the player. So I imagine that somehow when the spore pods are converted it somehow acquires the properties of a homing creature projectile that is programmed to home towards a player instead of a creature. Try polymorphing yourself after firing the shot and see if it still homes in on you.
I'm now also curious about this interaction with boomerang spells because I don't remember if creatures are affected by the spell when firing a wand with boomerang or if boomerang spells always home towards the player. I also can't think of any enemy projectile spells that home in on creatures. I've never really paid much attention to creature in-fighting and how homing projectiles interact when a creature is targeting another creature.
In the Noita code, it uses Entity ID. That is how projectiles knows what is "enemy", "creature", etc for homing.
Lots of games actually use this method for friendly, enemy, neutral and different factions.
This is what is used to get the demons fighting each other in original Doom games.
@@filipkolarik632 As level12lobster8 said, piercing shot doesn't change the entity ID of the projectile, yes the projectile can hurt the player but it still wouldn't home in on the player by default. I'm just going to assume that homing checks the entity ID of the projectile to determine who it should home in on and the spells to death crosses spell erases/changes that ID making the projectile dangerous towards the player, or alternatively, the spawned spores themselves don't have the player's entity ID by default. If boomerang spells also works by doing the same check (I don't see why it wouldn't be programmed the same way) then you could test this and see if the death crosses will boomerang towards you or not.
my guess : spores have friendly fire, giga death cross has innate homing on a lot of creatures. you might be one of them but usually be exempt because the part of death cross that has friendly fire is the projectile not the timered cross
reading the wiki, both player and innocent creatures have "prey" tag. The spell is homing towards "prey" creatures, unless the creature is its owner. Since spores are not owned by the player, death crosses don't have owner either, and so, home towards player
Reminds me of that one thing with hollow egg spells homing in on the player in certain conditions
Audio levels have been adjusted as per comments on the previous video. if it is better or worse please let me know. Also, we're all excited about the potential new spells coming to Noita. I will take a look at them once they have been ported to the main branch.
could be slightly louder, sounds great though!
Definitely needs to be louder
Still pretty quiet.
Good video, make it louder though please
Got super obsessed with Noita the past months, only seen two vids from you so far but both have been phenomenal from an informative standpoint. Audio shit takes a bit to get just right, so just keep tweaking a bit vid to vid, you'll get it! Idk if you are doing any post processing for the audio, but if not it's worth considering adding maybe a compressor or a limiter and some subtle eq. Audacity should do the trick for a free option! I think part of the issue is you having a soft spoken voice (that itself isn't a problem, but can make it hard to balance with other sound sources like the game audio. Compression would be the first thing I would try, can find quick tutorials on how to get started with simple settings on that. (just make sure it's ONLY on your voice, and not other audio that is in the vid)
Anyways, I appreciate the in depth content. Your pollen powered spell generator thing inspired me to make a really fun wand with homing giga death crosses with an add trigger for some zany fun decimation of enemies. Helped me make my first wand that could handle new game plus hell enemies!
Projectile gravity field + barier is something I'd love to test out. Looks fun.
Also piercing fungi. Wow.
This man playing 4D wandbuilding. While the best I could do was grenade launchers (Spark bolts with triggered explosions/brimstones).
I think the homing is because they have no caster (bc they are polymorphed projectiles) so they home on the default entity: you
100 hours of progress and I knew absolutely none of these. amazing!
Playing the game, and experimenting with it with mods is a completely different experience. You are very unlikely to come across this combination of spells and be able to cast them without dying in a "normal" run. If you go for a god run you will have to look around A LOT and potentially travel to many parallel worlds, and by that point you most likely dont really need those kind of spell combos, because if you made it that far, you obviously have something that works fine and is much easier to build. But the truly interesting stuff can only be found by mods like the spell lab, which makes me think of noita as more than a game, it also offers a sandbox experience unlike any others, that has to be accessed by a mod or during a god run.
spells to world war 3
Death crosses has a bug that where they will home into "innocent" creatures even without homing modifiers. That's why they will home in to fish and the player. You can see this effect too by giving an enemy a wand with death crosses, they will fly out towards you without any modifiers. Normally, when you are the caster they can't target you, but here, when you convert those spores, I'm guessing the game does not know you are the caster, the pods are yours, but the projectiles that comes off of it are not, thus when converted into death crosses they fly into you. You can see this effect too by converting the projectile that comes off glitter bombs.
I dont really know exactly, but I think giga sawblades always move to the left because its the default angle in the engine.
In most games, when a projectile is spawned it needs to have an angle to move at. If the angle is not set to something specific and there is no default, the game would crash cause it doesnt know what to do. Thats why usually there is some default value there like 0 or smt. Giga sawblades usually dont have an angle but a target. That target is most likely you.
With spells to Giga sawblades, my guess is that through the way the spell is coded, it doesnt give them any target to chase, which results in them following the default angle to fly at.
Edit: To add. You can check this out in other games as well with similar things. If you muck about with console commands in other games or smt like that (source engine games do this I think for example), you will spawn things that always face the same direction. Its because thats the default value. Probably 0 or something like that
I once used a prickly spore pod with homing, piercing, and an add-trigger to cast div10 > div10 > summon wasps.
My computer really hated summoning 360,000 wasps per second (6 wasps * 100 * 60 fps) and decided to crash the game really hard instead of calculating it all.
This is a gaming lesson : just because the game program would allows you to create a million wasps, does not mean that you are entitled to a million wasps.
Goes to show that late game wands have to be CPU efficient.
@@oneoranotawell, I would say the late game wands can lag the game a little, I had a wand that spawned that floating homing projectile with both fire and water trails and for some reason it immediately floods the entire screen (this causes moderate lag) even when the projectiles aren't moving, the only thing left to do after flooding the entire map is to wield the charged rock and electrocute everything
20:00 The groud slowly desintegrating into pixels was so cool
Polio teaches us so many things, thank you!
Thank you for explaining this so clearly!
Mom: we have Circle of Vigor at home!
The Circle of Vigor at home:
Looking forward to see interesting interactions of these new spells from the beta branch
You've inspired me, I'm now more creative with my wands thanks to you. Thank you for your content
So glad that I came across your channel! Really creative wand builds and the way you break it all down is super easy to follow. Always gives me ideas. Keep up the great work!
shout out from S.A. Im addicted to this game
Thanks for the video! Previously I was watching Nymphs for cool wand crafting tricks, but since he did not upload in a long time I was starving for this type of content
Another great video! Audio still very low with a slight high pitched hum to it, but still clear!
Good content ! I just got this channel recommended and I'm glad it looks like you're starting to grow up and get momentum
Love the work Polio! Look forward to seeing your content going forward
Awesome builds! Great Noita science :)
Great wandcrafting content! Subscribed.
i learn new shit every day about this game
Thanks, really appreciate the effort, sorry for nitpicking.
This stuff is beautiful, instant subscribe
Every one of those videos transform the spell lab to a nuclear wasteland😊
Seeing you spawn dozens of sawblades while on 1 hp is giving me severe anxiety
I think the death cross homing on the player with the piercing spore is due to the piercing perhaps? as that allows many spells to do player damage that otherwise wouldn't right? been a little bit since I have played
That seems accurate; that or the prickly spores home in towards the player exclusively (which I believe they might) and the death crosses inherit it from them
I was looking for a comment like this, this is exactly correct
i like your videos, audio is still a bit quiet but its better than in the anime video
Great video 🙏
this is very cool
Awesome content.
sick content for the best game ever bro.
BALLER
if you add piercing would the barrier projectiles not die on entity contact? if so, add trigger and homing would make for a NUTS cheap divide by substitute...
actually itds work a ton better because divide by dont mix with add trigger/timer/death trigger....
If you've got an RTX card, NVIDIA broadcast will sort out the Audio pretty easily. It's not perfect but I use it all the time cause my mic just picks up everything.
Doesn't have to be an rtx card if you want the feature of noise cancelling. Im using a gtx 980ti and it works just fine, just called nvidia voice or some shit
@@astupidlylongnamethatstoolong Wait really? Ive got some good news for my hotmicing mates then. Thanks!
13:35 try using the projectile projectile field above a pool of chaotic poly 😂😂
I guess if you're balsy you could get a bunch of money from doing that
ahh yes, Omega death cross
the audio is fine, the rest yall trippin
The audio is still very low... right click on the video and click on "Stats for nerds"... there you will see content loudness is -15.3dB... It should be near or above 0dB..
Your voice audio is quiet, but I can hear your keyboard/mouse quite well. Maybe positioning of the microphone?
I have no idea what game this is but i watched all of it
It's called Noita and you should get on it!
Most of those look like suucide wands.
Can you do square barrier -> spells to nukes -> spells to power -> sparkbolt?
Yup it's definitely possible. However if damage is your goal there are more efficient ways
@@polio860
Have a video on how to do a lot of damage?
Hämis 👍
4:30 arnold schwarzenegger???
Still a little low on the audio levels. Watching you play around is nice. Some people take forever getting to showing the possibilities.
The shields are made of magic liquid that can be transmuted, is it possible to do the same with the plasma from plasma cutter and the barriers?
Plasma cutter maybe but I'll have to check. The barriers are made of plasma. But it's magic that will fade away. In the same way a spark bolt will. It's not the same thing as summon rock which is physically made of material that can interact with the world and not disappear
@@polio860 Magic liquid is also quick to disappear, if the plasma is also collectable in a flask or bag like the magic liquid is, though, it could be possible
Can you please answer whether it will be possible to use homing on this death machine? (No mushrooms)It would be very impressive if all these spells were cast on one little khyamis :)
Not the spell. But I'm pretty sure the homing perk will work here
Are you south African? Wondering based off your accent and I'm from Johannesburg.
this is so cool man
i dont know anything about this game, where can i find out
It's called Noita. You can find more on steam
Are the death crosses homing on you because you have 4 stacks of more love? Maybe that makes you an “innocent creature” for their homing?
probably homing onto you because the mushroom does damage to the player
19:40 bro just caused ww3
Still hyping about Noita is Art for the Epilogue 2 update...
Joh bra jy speel met viir daar lol
you should put an epilepsy warning
poor sheep
Your keyboard clickety clacks sound like a person chewing to me
mic needs a pop filter or lowpass, audio hurts my ears
Things that deadly to you are pretty much useless, all of these thigna like spells to giga death crosses are useless spells that just kill you.
Sounds like a boring playstyle issue
Are you south african?
South African?
Arrrrre you Russian my friend? Лол кек чебурек
