- In this video I play 10 amazing guitar amps. I actually think this maybe is one of the best compilations of tones on this channel so far. The amps:
1. 1961 Silvertone 1472
2. 1966 Fender Vibrolux Reverb
3. 200X Peavey Bandit Transtube II Red Stripe
4. 201X Supro Thunderbolt
5. Fender Vibro King
6. 1966 Fender Vibrolux with 1972 Marshall 1960B
7. 1972 Thor Amp (Terry Marshall"
8. 201X Orange Dual Terror
9. Marshall MG100FX
10. 1976 Hiwatt DR103
11. 1976 Marshall Super Lead
Simon Karlsson and I are playing these amps using a 1973 Gibson Les Paul Custom, a 1969 Fender Stratocaster and a 2021 Fender Telecaster Custom Shop 1960 Relic
Johan, Thank you for running the Greatest Global Guitar Tone Channel!
Thanks! Makes my day to hear that!
I concur! \m/
100% correct! And I love the fact that Johan never asks people to subscribe etc.
@@eddieholmes3236 Only 'pick mes' do that!
That 1961 Silvertone was a beast! You always manage to get the best tone out of everything!
Thanks man!
Some people are buying gold. I'm buying Peaveys. :) The absolute god of the solid states!
All of their transtube stuff was so underrated. Just because it's affordable doesn't mean it's cheap!
The Transtube stuff was really great. I love my Bandit!
@@wabbadu1 Yup! I scored a Revolution 112 for an insanely low price that can pretty much get any sound I can imagine. The Teal Stripes from the 90s were pretty amazing as well.
@@FleshOnGear for sure. The Teal Stripe solo series bandits were incredible as well.
I've had a Peavey Bandit 112 Teal Stripe since new. It has always been a beast of an amp but I recently replaced the speaker with an EMINENCE Legend v128 and now it sounds incredible.
Those Silvertones were great. I had a small one that distorted easy and ran it together with my Fender 2-12 Bandmaster. Mic'd both together. Easy to blend clean & dirt to the mix and get a huge sound without having to go back & over dub. Best rhythm tracks I ever recorded. Thanks Johan.
Thanks Buddy! Interesting combination!
Solid-state Peavey amps with the 'Trans-tube' overdrive are totally slept on.
They're actually great and would be a big hit if they made them again, but as lunchbox amp heads.
Only my opinion.
Johan said, "we've been collecting videos of back to back comparisons of amps" etc. Another commenter said "some people are collecting gold, I'm collecting Peavey's". Well, I'm collecting Johan videos, because they are priceless to me! Thank you Johan for sharing your time and passion for the amps, guitars, and the sweet music they make together. You sir are just awesome! Grateful from America.👍🏼
That 1961 10 watt Silvertone sounds massive. It's gain or crunch, not really sure what words to use to try to explain what I'm attempting to say, is the exact sound I've heard in my head for around 40 years. It's perfect to me.
It's crazy how good that 10W Silvertone sounds. I will have to try hunting one of those down.
Thanks, yeah those sound huge
YESSS! I’ve been eyeing an old Silvertone 1482 lately (the successor of the 1472). This was all the confirmation I needed. What a sound! And that Hiwatt is just amazing; too expensive for me these days, though. Thanks for all the hard work, Johan.
Thanks Todd, glad you like it!
I can't get over that Silvertone! Amazing.
Cheers Eddie 😉
That Peavey sounded killer! I've always seen those amps used in metal bands but to hear it in a more restrained/clear rock tone just goes to show how dynamic it is!
The Supro Thunderbolt was the absolute show stealer, especially on that ending riff! Sounds so Zeppelin I love it!
Thanks, great to hear that!
Nice selection. But yep, that Silvertone. Maybe it's age or something but I found myself liking those Silvertone's more and more.
Thanks! Yeah that one defies the laws of physics
@@JohanSegebornThey have cheap cabinets and speakers, but the circuits themselves are up there with anything else of the time
It's always great to hear you properly represent classic KISS riff on your videos. Super Lead, Custom 100, and the huge surprise - the Peavey Bandit, were among my favorites. THANKS, JOHAN!!
Thanks Nick!
Silverone Rules!
I got all the models from that series except the 1482, and they all sound amazing!
But most importantly: They are the most fun to play, thanks to the lovely sagging going on: Perfect Compression and the most touch sensitive amps that I've ever played!
Although I now realize that I would be very happy with the Supro, so I will need to save up some money for one of those!
Great Comparison Video!
Thanks Neil! Yeah I love Silvertones!
I’m doing the opposite of you. I have an Airline 62-9023A (which is a Supro 1624T) and it is a punchy, sweet little amp. Now I’m shopping for a Silvertone 1482. BTW, Montgomery Ward had two lines of Airline amps. One was made by Valco (the maker of Supro) and one was made by Danelectro (the maker of Silvertone). The Airline 62-9013A is a Silvertone 1482.
I actually liked the Sears Silvertone really a lot with its thick fat tone. Plus the Hiwatt was especially good.
Thanks Scott! Glad to hear that!
@@JohanSegeborn You’re welcome! This was a great shootout! I forgot-the black face Vibrolux through the Marshall cabinet was especially good with its low end girth and great top end!
Johan, amazing sounding as always!!! That supro really has the key to my heart though ❤️
Thanks! Yeah wonderful amp
Recently bought a Thunderbolt just like that and I love it! I’ve been a Deluxe Reverb guy for the better part of 20 years but when I heard it with the 15” it just sounded how one was supposed to in the room… the distortion on it is so tough, it just sounds hard nose like a street fight. I could see Link Wray using the tone honestly.
The peavey transistor is what I use . Made the amp in a selfmade headshell and lightweight to transport. Used it with two 4x12 and it sounds massive, tight and loud!
The tone I want more than any other is a late 70s to early 70s Marshal Super Bass.
Any amp company that could reproduce it for a reasonable price, and attenuated volume, would make$$$
That's the big thing... trying to get that sound without ear bleeding volume.
This tone.

You’re amazing, love it all, great playing too Johan 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Thanks Danny! Great to hear that!
That Marshall Super Lead...................dang.......
Cheers!
Your old shootout sold me on a Supro and Peavey Classic 30. Both have been great. Supro is just the ultimate fun amp. Always sounds so good.
Thanks! Really good to hear that
If you think those are good, Try the real ones from the 50s and 60s
@@mohamedtlass3842 nah I like the new ones
Really did not see that MGFX coming at all. Impressive. The Bandit and Dual Terror didn’t surprise me, the Bandits in particular get slept on. They punch way above their weight.
Thanks, the MG surprised me. I didn’t like them at first actually but I didn’t know how to tweak them then. Cheers
Keep on rockin Johan, the world is a much better place with you doing your thing! 🙌
Thanks my friend!
Being a solid state fan I think the Peavey transtube is an absolute win win. It really sounds very "tube" realistic without the hassle of tubes maintenance and handling risks on the road.
I didn't like the Marshall MG gain channel, for me that's cheap and bad sound. Everything else great amps, and great comparison. Thanks Johan !
I bet if you watched the video "blind," you would not have been able to pick the MG out of the rest.
@@castleanthrax1833 Yeah we most guitar players fail in a blind test. Just happens a friend has exactly the same MG model, which he let me play enough with it so it's familiar to me, but I don't find at least the gain to be some good, too dry, no compression, not dynamic. Guess what, he's using it as a pedal platform with a Marshall bluesbreaker and a tubescreamer pedals and the amp sounds better. Any case depends on the situation.
Thanks glad to hear it! Yeah the MG needs very specific tweaking to sound great
Nice playing, Johan, as usual!
Thanks glad to hear it!
Always nice to hear a Vibro King in these mixes, been my favorite for sometime. Haven’t tried it with the 2x12 cabinet, that must be quite a lot of air being thrown into the room. I get along great with my neighbors and I want to keep it that way. Great demos as usual!
Thanks! Yeah the Vibro King stack was crazy loud especially for 60W
All to say ... they nail the tone as You Johan & Simon ❤ was astonished on the vibrolux
Thanks Markus! Great to hear that!
Loved them all, but #1 had something special. Great video as always Johan. You never cease to outdo yourself. God bless and rock on 👍😎🎸
Nicely done.
I was looking for some reference points while naming/sorting some tones I have dialed into my rig.
This will be really handy.
also has me thinking..... hmmm need that one too.
Slipping in the Peavey Bandit Red Stripe in there was awesome haha! Sounds great I have the silver stripe!
Great choice on all the amps. I have the Peavey, the Orange, and the MGFX. Often times people are amazed at the Peavey. When dialed in right it is a great amp. I would love to know your settings while playing.
The Marshall MG also gets love from people when I use it. Most of the time they can't believe it's solid state. Great amp and loud too.
The Orange is no surprise most of the time, but when I use it for blues or cleaner tones it is a surprise.
Thanks for mentioning some great amps in a decent price range.
Oh, you should really check out a Peavey Bravo if you get the chance. I run mine with scorpion and a 2x12 cab with green backs and it is amazing.
Thanks! Glad to hear it. The peavey riff was taken from this video th-cam.com/video/xYZrCsh6Zyo/w-d-xo.html
and you can see the settings in the thumbnail
Mahalo Johan! Nice collection.
Mahalo Victor!
I've got a Red Strip Peavey Bandit and it always amazes me the tones I get out of it. Especially for being $200 used.
The telecaster and blackface vibrolux combined absolutely blew my mind.. incredible tone!
Thanks! Great to hear that
Loved the Hiwatt. Such a high definition sound spectrum
Thank you for your work. I am an amp geek (recent or old, valve mostly but some solid states are worth it sometimes).
I’d love to see you get your hands on a Vox Fidelity 15 amp. This was, for those who may not know, an AC-30 combo amp with twin 15 inch speakers.
I actually saw one of those around a while back. I’ll demo it first chance I get
@@JohanSegeborn That would be awesome. I have pictures of one and the amp just looks huge. Do you know if there was ever an AC-30 with a single 12 inch speaker at all?
The Thunderbolt would suit my needs all day long. Rock on, Johan.
Rock on!
sounds great. all of them.
Thanks!
This was an awesome batch of amps. 1-5 were incredible. I think the Vibrolux sounds better with the stock speakers. The Thor definitely has a God of Thunder vibe. The rest are already proven contenders, other than the Marshall MG100. That one isn't even in your top 15 cheap Marshall sounds, and I'm usually a fan. The SIlvertone, Supro, Bandit, and Vibrolux are all incredible. Great, great tones.
That Supro tone is so sweet. I'm hearing the amp volume high and the guitar volume low, no?
Thanks! Glad you like it! Amp volume is at 4 and the guitar volume is close to dimed actually
@@JohanSegeborn it sounds incredible.
That Fender and Tele just screamed garage rock. Love it.😊
Can we get a t-shirt with all these amps on it, along with your "let's go."
Cheers 😂
Thanks Johan, very nice demo and playing.
That Laney sounded supernice.
Btw, got a Marshall 5210 that predates the newer SS Marshall's Do you have any opinion on that combo?
Vibro king and vibroverb biggest shockers
If you had to keep just one, which would be the most incredible ?
I had a Bandit 112 (scorpion speaker) in the early 90's. This one seems even more incredible 😛 I just saw an ad for ... 100€ !!!
I've already tested the DR103, it's a completely crazy machine, even more than a Supergroup. No, I just need to find one at a good price with original Fane cab and above all with the right attenuator, passive or active...
BtW thanks for this excellent video 👍👍👍
I think you should try an old Sovtek Mig-100! Gotta be great add to this video)
Hi! First chance I get
I miss mine. Great breakup and plenty loud
Hey Johan, love the channel! Just curious if you've ever gotten your hands on Dr Z's EMS amp? Id love to see you try one and compare to your vintage Marshalls!
Vilken toppen-video! 🤘
Tackar så mycket Marko!
That KISS live tone is unreal!!
Thanks! :-)
Hello Johan. Considering all the great work you’ve done, and the incredible level of detail demonstrated. Could you recommend a quintessential starting point for a Marshall Cab (4x12) to start the collection?
The Supro Thunderbolt and the Hiwatt were easily my favorite from this one. Two very different sounds.
Hi Johan, great video as always, great editing. I am trying to sneak a peak at your Bandit settings, are you using the clean or lead channel in your demo? Cheers Boris
Thanks Boris! I’m using the lead channel with vintage gain. 50% pre gain and 100% post gain. Bass 3, mid 8, treble 5, tight response and 100% dyn. Cheers!
@@JohanSegeborn very much appreciated!
Loving the Kiss riffs!
Glad to hear it!
The first one the silvertone is my pick thanks 👍🇺🇸
Thanks, glad you like it!
I signed in to upvote the vid. I rather like that Supro Thunderbolt. 1x15, eh? Neat!
Supro thunderbolt for me, has the thud and squish that I lurve
Silvertone sounded crazy
Dual Terror….. sounds great
Thanks!
Vibrolux ...ouha I love thisl sound typical of 70's rock
There are some god-damn well-played Kiss-riffs there!! 🙂
Hands down the Marshall come out the best. Crunch on demand. Can't beat it. Turn it down and I'd clean. Turn it it up ad you have the best tone. So what if it takes little extra eight.. greetings
From Hawaii
Man I wish the build quality was better on the new Supros because I love how several of them sound.
Pure bliss. I have (or have had) at least 4 of those
Thanks Sam! Glad to hear from you!
Orange is my favorite tone.
Thanks Frank
Johan have you come across a 6 knob Laney Aor 30 head It’s right up your alley 🤟🤟🤟
Yeah, I’ll demo an AOR first chance!
Orange Dual terror and Peavey transtube are both interesting.
Thor and supro omg
Thanks
3 more:
Marshall Vintage Modern
Marshall JCM 600
Vox AC30
I like how it is 10, but then goes to 11 :)
Man that vibrolux
Yeah amazing amp
I like all of the tones of all these amps but one of them sounds a bit odd or somewhat weird. The THOR. Is it just me or does it sound like it's in a barrel muffling it's overall tone/sound? Not sure I'm explaining what I'm trying to say with the right words.🤷🏼♂️
Thanks James, the Thor was miked a bit differently than the others, more room sound
@@JohanSegeborn Well, that makes me feel a good bit better. I have heard from a handful of people I know that the THOR was a great sounding amp. So, I was kind of scratching my head. Funny how small adjustments can produce such differing results. Thanks Johan. Like others have said, your channel is the best on youtube. By a lot .
I got a 65 fender
princeton
64 gibson mariner
66 silvertone 1484
75 marshall mkII
2 O4 marshall dsl 100
98 marshall vs orange crunch
? Peavey bandit blue
And several ss combos
I'm so conflicted on a amp.I'm gonna buy one literally today.May 1st, is there a music man?A bass master or something somebody help me!
@johnhotz1400 Depends how much your budget is and what type amp you want. Non-master volume or master volume amp. What type sound you want-American (like Fenders) or English (like Marshalls). Amps with channel switching. Never heard of a Bassmaster except in bass amps. Fender makes a “Bass Breaker”. Music Man might be making amps-but having a company like Ernie Ball or Jim Dunlop build them-not sure.
Do U want a clean amp and let pedals do the dirt, or u want something on the edge of breakup sound , how much volume, so u want a 2 channel? What Musiic man? Yes, budget is key. U like a combo? 10 inch, 12 inch speakers, any preference? Tube preference, lots of mids, scooped mids. What kind or music do u play? How are Your Dynamics? Do u hit hard, soft, or a combo? Sometimes a little sag from a tube rectifier is what some people like, some like the immediacy of solid state rectifier.
I want to hang out with Johan!
Peavey Bandit red stripe = Ace Frehley on Kiss Alive 😃👍
Thanks Bosse!
Is that mic on the Super Lead distorting?
peavey bandit, thor next. best amp i ever had and heard (among marsh mesa ora lan) solton bv 50. theres also gv. got mine for 50dm. bassman clone from netherbavaria.
Marshall Mgfx ???
marshall MG XXX IS AWESOME
I'm about to pull the trigger on either a DSL20CR or a DSL5CR
Both great amps
@@JohanSegeborn I'm leaning towards the 5 as I don't play out only at home but I like 12 inch speakers
@@PoppaOn2both will be loud. Marshall’s have to be cranked even the new ones. Choose a 12 inch speaker
@@bradleyjpaolucciill probably go with the dsl20
Please try a fender 58 super amp.
First chance I get!
I have liked all the amps except the pevaey, for me a little too nasal sounding. I have liked a lot
also marshall mg100. Peavey os a good brand for sure, i have an express 112 and a rage all teal stripe but i still prefer marshalls. I can compete with you for the numer of amps that i have 😂😂😂 i think 24 for the moment.
Hi! I have way too many as well 😂
@@JohanSegeborn i know eheheh 🤣 and also many many cabs
John, why no AC30? love those amps but you need to add that to the list or your credibility rating goes down with me....hahahha
I'm disappointed Johan, no Mesa Boogie amps.
Johan es el único que puede hacer sonar bien un Marshall MG 😂
Which tone?
Che spettacolo, ogni ampli ha un suo suono, una sua anima
Am I the only one who can only watch this video up to 720p?
I hope so… Does it Work now?
Hai
Yeah that’s the proper phonetics
Haaj. 😂
Does it mean something weird in your language? It means shark in Swedish
@@JohanSegeborn Dear Johan, its how i could write your fameous "Hi' in Serbian. Its so authentic and funny. Love your work 🙂
That Marshall MG sounded terrible. Even the Peavey Bandit was better.
Nope!
