  • The western calendar used to start in from March, but around 650 AD, Pope Gregory revised the calendar and made it very illogical with January being the first month of the year.

Aryabhatta wrote in one of his research papers that he is writing it in 34 or 36 years after the start of Kalyug, his age is also mentioned in the start, when we used both those dates, we were able to calculate the start of Kalyug which is somewhere in early 3102 BCE.
The calendar you are talking of is saptarshi calendar. The oldest one known as of yet.

In this 12months(Sun signs) in a year.
UTTARA-AYANAM STARTS on Vaikunta ekadashi of 10th masa(Hindu month).
      i.e Pushya(10th) masa/Makar(10th)/Capricorn(10th)-month.
Western countries took this calculation. In Capricorn(10th) month they took the 11th day as 1st day of the year, i.e. new year.
i.e. Start of UTTARA-AYANAM, the day of Vaikunta ekadashi.

For example we telugu people call a festival called ugadi which comes after few days of Sri ramanavami which indicates starting of spring Kerala people celebrate lord ayyappa birthday as new year and tamilians celebrate April 14th as new year

      Important for everyone !!
Western follows Hindu Samskriti & calculations, this is how ??
In Hindu samskriti a year is divided into two parts on basis on SUN MOTION - (1st)UTTARA-AYANAM(6months) and (2nd)DAKSHINA-AYANAM(6months).
Bhagwan Vishnu wakes-up from sleep on Vaikunta ekadashi, this day is consider as 1st day of UTTARA-AYANAM and it is 1st day for bhagwan Vishnu.
And Western countries count this as their 1st day of the year to follow Hindu Samskriti, here is how...
This is why all the sun sign start dates fall in the 20's
