+Nnaemeka Oku Their just trying to let you know it can handle big cameras and of course the 5300 is capable. My d3200 fits good on there. The footage it makes is amazing
I've used the MS1 for over a year now - on almost 100 productions! It has replaced both my dolly and lightweight crane, and it has never failed me.. I will be upgrading to the DS1 straight away, because this is, without a doubt, the best stabilizer on a budget! I'd marry it, if I could!

I completely agree... this unit I just got in yesterday, is absolutely AMAZING! You hit the nail right on the head, however with my review coming next week, I will talk about a few things people missed, the ability to go from low mode and high mode with ease, the three modes preprogrammed and more including the bottom tripod/jib mount. I absolutely loved your review, and love this unit, just wish people would listen because the DS-1 is the absolutely best value best gimbal on the market despite some of the other 'brand name' products available
+Kwanza Henderson hahaha, I would talk to Jeff over at XM Hobbies aka CNCHelicopter.com. They're an authorized US Dealer for Team Rebel Design products... He even let me pay over time.... Just spent 4 wks just about shooting with this, I'm currently editing my own review of the unit.... Can't wait cause I truly believe this is better than the came or piloltfly models...
question... can u use something like power bank or lippo battery to power it up just in case your both battery is drained... jsut saw a pilot fly h1 using that battery as an external battery
+payatotslim it can be charged while the batteries are inside the unit via and external micro usb port. You can use a portable charger for any mobile device or use a vmount battery with usb port
+payatotslim I can't say as I just got my unit and it was not defective, but what I can say is that you can't buy it directly from 'Team Rebel Design', you actually need to go through a third party... in the USA Owldolly and CNC Helicopter are the only two authorized distributors I believe so you'd pretty much be shipping to and from and dealing with them and not TRD. Internationally i have no idea who you'll be dealing with to be honest, you'll have to contact TRD or visit their site. I will say CNC Helicopter was VERYYYYY nice to me and allowed me a lot of leeway when getting this unit. Had I known owldolly was an even an option i prob would've went there, but I thought at the time CNC was the only US distributor
+Bruno Slam There's a list of compatible cameras on the website at www.owldolly.com - this does not take into consideration cameras and adapted lenses (like in the video with the Nikon 14-24 and the A7s)
+Darren Miles Adapted lens ? What's a normal lens ? So any of the cameras listed with a native lens is compatible ? A7 series with the massive 28-135 ? with the 35 f1.4 ? The 16-35 f4 ? I don't think so. This list is useless. If weight under 3,8lbs is not the only requirement, this really has to be clearly stated. Camera + max lens weight. The lighter the camera is the lighter the lens has to be balanced. Thanks you anyway for your review and reply.
+Bruno Slam If the center of gravity is too far forward it will in fact be to hard to balance - in the example in the video I used a Nikon 14-24 (a front heavy lens), + an adapter with an A7s... The weight of the A7s isn't enough to offset the "front heaviness" of the 14-24 - hence why it won't work. This will probably also be true for larger and longer lenses that push the center of gravity too far forward for the DS-1 to balance. I prefer to use primes - when I can - with a 3 axis gimbal, easier to manage, and much easier to balance.
+Darren Miles Hey Darren, do you go thru troubles in life or is everything really rosy in your garden? Seems you get the pick of the crop, but I could be wrong...
Darren I have a question. When I use the usb charger to charge my batteries using that 3 way battery cartridge holder. Is there a light thats suppose to turn on to let me know. I charged my batteries as said in the instruction booklet, a light did not illuminate or show I let it charge anyways for about 4hrs but when I inserted the battery cartridge inside my ds1 the power button was still red. I'm just trying to know if a light it suppose to illuminate when you charge it through usb
+SAAV Films It is supposed to illuminate, I've had this issue with he battery pack too - I suggest plugging directly into the USB port on your computer and see what happens - it work for me when I did that.
+SAAV Films Based on CNCHelicopters "no lights, means wall charger current less than 2a, green light not on, battery still in charging , you can move battery near your ear when USB connected with wall charger, you can hear battery noise, it means in charging , no need to care about lights if on or off . charing time around 4 hours. will be ok"
I appreciated the mention of the 7-14 2.8 lens - that's something I've really been looking for....now I know it exists! Of course the review of the stabilizer was very useful as well...
great review as always! I've got 2 questions for you...1) are you able to flip out the LCD to the left of the camera for better viewing since the LCD is somewhat obstructed by the back motor? since the weight of the LCD isn't much I'm thinking this is possible and still able to still balance? 2) i see that it has the joystick for tilting but is the DS1 able to tilt up and down (like the Ronin which i have) as well? meaning pull back or push down for tilting and not using the joystick. its very easy on the Ronin to "ease in" to a tilt without it starting too fast which is my concern with the joystick that there is only a "preset speed". thanks!
+Darren Miles ill be interested in their answer. are you able to still get balance on this gimbal is you put the flip out LCD out to the left of the camera body like a GH4 or 70D?
Very nice review! Thanks for that. Question: If I buy a more powerfull set of 18650 batteries (9800mah) will the gimbal get a longer operating time versus the 2600mah batteries included?
Hey. Loved the video. I have a question. I just brought my ds1 and I have a 14mm lens with a canon 6d. I get these micro shakes when I walk. I was wondering if you had similar issues. If so what did you do to fix them. Thanks
Hey Darren just watching your video about the beholder quick questions: 1) are u still using it? If so how is it going for you? 2) How much room does it have in the back to pull out the screen on a7s?
+Major Moves Films Still using it yes, I think it's great. As for whether you can move the screen, really depends on the lens you're using, but most of the time, the answer is no.
I want to use my battery grip on the EM1, I imagine lifting the screen will make it easier to see, I have the Zuiko 9-18mm to add. Do you see any problems with this arrangement Darren ? That is until I can afford the 7-14mm Pro. :)
+lukehmail I have the original Ronin, I found that if you walk with a little caution and intentionally soft footed, it can get better, though there is some "bounce" as you walk. Definitely less noticeable on the Ronin, but I'll sacrifice a minute bit of quality for the 7 lb weight savings.
Mr. Miles hey my name is James I work for LG here in beautiful "not so sunny" Korea :) I just placed an order for the DS1 ($688 but with the exchange rate it is robbery) and shoot with an A7 II + Sony FE28mm F2. This combo I am not worried about but with the fisheye adapter I think I will be pushing it for size. Your Nikon featured in the video seemed to be just outside the safe zone for balance using the A7S. The A7s is 489 grams as where my A7 II is 556g. Plus I will be using the Sony external mic at 100g. I am hoping this will help the balance but the fisheye adapter alone is over 400g. My question is the length of of your Nikon lens setup? You had to be using some sort of an adapter as where my stuff being all Sony I will not have the added length that you needed to make it work. I ideally a hoping that despite the heavy weight from the fisheye on my setup the shorter length (I am guessing) will be enough to offset the weight balance. With your Nikon + adapter what was the total length? Or what is the adapter I will look it up myself. If it comes down to it and I can not use the fisheye... meh ok to bad I probably could of gotten away with the MS1 and saved $200 in that regard, but down the line I am looking at the A7S II (or three when it comes out) and S2 + even the 28mm Sony glass puts it outside of the usable weight for the MS1 hence... better to future proof for heavier equipment going with the DS1. Anyway thanks for the review and I wanted to say I am a fan of your channel. My parents just bought a place down in Naples and love it. Cool little town and great beaches. Have a good one!
Thank you for review. Here I see that one of the motors is on the left of the camera, so you can flip-open the small monitor on the camera (say GH4). But then on ebay all photos are with the motor on the right side and it means that it is impossible to open the monitor. Do you mean that you can change the position of the axis motor?
Thanks for the review. I didn't know about this gimbal and it seems like it works quite good. I read about it just by chance and I am in the market for a hand held gimbal. Where did you buy it from? I can't seem to find a reliable place.
I'm pretty sure you can only get it from www.owldolly.com ... The gimbal has proven to be so popular that they are sold out until the middle of November
+Darren Miles Thanks for the info. Do you know if I place an order through them they will only charge my card when it's ready to ship. I email them but still waiting for a respond. My only issue is I will need to have it by December 5th and if not then I will go for the came-tv single.
Great review! I'm curious what camera/lens combo you used in your live footage, and if some of the arm bouncing could be fixed by further balancing/tuning of the gimbal?
+James Rockett I used the GH4 with the 7-14 f/4 from Panasonic. I'm thinking the bouncing might be remedied by walking more carefully and possibly changing some of the PID settings (tuning), but the interface for the PID settings is not user friendly, and takes some time to learn... Anytime I messed with things, I made them worse, not better and found that I would just reset to the factory settings.
Excellent review Darren, I'm thinking of buying this gimbal, for my camera Panasonic Lumix FZ1000, having a weight of a little more than 800 gr. You would think that would work well?
Thanks for this review Darren, but i have one big question, have you tried to mount a microphone on gh4 and run it? Or will gh4 with rode stereo videomic pro works on that? I'm afraid of height calibration.. What would You recommend, this or came single? Thank for reply
Hi there! ...how it work the DS1 using Canon 5D III, with 24-105mm lens? think i've heard there is some problems carring this particular lens, Thank you in advance :)
+elcultodejem Zoom lenses in general have to be preset at your desired focal length and balanced, then it should be fine, bit if you zoom in to 105mm, you'll probably have a heck of a time balancing the unit.
Thanks for the review Darren as always great stuff. As an A7s owner what native glass would you recommend with the DS-1 ? Any thoughts on using the FE 24-70 f4 on it?
I was wondering the same thing, turned me off when he said it would not work with a A7s and bigger lens?? I have seen people posting they have even put a 5dMIII with 24-70 lens, so why wouldn't a sony work?
Hi Darren, I just bought one unit, and I noticed that the device emits a sound similar to that one of high voltage; a buzz while operatin it... I wanted to ask you if it is normal? Did the unit you show on the video emits any sound or is it absolutely silent?
Thanks for the info. I own the CAME Single and so far I have been happy with the results. The drawbacks being that the handle is a torture device and the weight limit is very restricting as far as lens choices go. I'm looking to be able to use the Rokinon 14mm 2.8 with a Sony A7s. Since I wouldn't need an adapter I wouldn't have the issue of the camera being pushed too far back. My question is do you think that this lens/camera combo would be suitable for the DS1? Thanks again for your great review.
+Gordon Zernich According to a balancing video by alex TDR - yes you can. He sets it up with the screen fully out to the side with the GH3 and 14-140mm lens.
hey men thank you very much for mentioning balancing problems with small cameras and big lenses, I experienced this right outta box with the bmpcc + sigma 18-35. it nearly drove me crazy and haven't heard it mentioned on a video before, so.. thanks, thumbs up. i am now in love with you. i believe adding a bit more weight to the pocket will solve the problem since the ds1 can manage it anyway, so ill attach a weighed quick release plate on top of the pocket, see how that works.
Nice review Darren. Personaly I use this gimbal with canon 6d and 70D I can't complain. Iw was very handy tool on my last job, Motor Show in Poland. I had 2 bodies, lenses and DS-1 in my backpack. I was just switching tripod camera and gimbal camera. Gimbal great for b-roll.
+MalikPhotography Do you have an answer to this yet? I would like to use a Rode Stereo Videomic Pro. I notice one person mentioned some loud noise made by the DS1 though. I wonder if that is the case and would be picked up by the mic?
+John Packard I have one and yes it does. As long as you can a balance your particular camera with it on. I think balancing is very important, and once you get the hang of that this is an awesome thing to have. I'll be uploading videos on my channel in a week or so, I've got a lot of footage. Be sure to watch owl Dolly's videos on balancing. It worked with 70d and rode mic, and with gh4, 12-35 2.8 and rode video pro mic.
+MalikPhotography Thanks very much! I think this clinches it for me. I'd like to use it on my GH3 with the 12-35 and Rode Stereo mic. This appears to be a great unit. Just what I've been waiting for. Being able to use the Rode mic on top plus have the screen flipped out if I want to is perfect.
+MalikPhotography +MalikPhotography OK Thanks. On the post by alex TRD mentioned elsewhere on this page, the guy actually balances one on the video with the screen out. It vibrates with the screen flat but when he rotates it a little the vibration went away.
Thanks for the video. I'm trying to decide if should get one of these. I also shoot realestate and currently use a ronin m with A7S II with a zeiss 16-35 f4. What's your thoughts?
+Jeramy Michael With the DS-1, I think it's a possibility, might be a bit front heavy to get the center of gravity right, but the combination is definitely under the weight limit...
How does this compare to the Came-TV Single??? The DS1 doesnʻt have encorders right? Iʻm shooting with a Sony a99 right now and leaning towards the Came-TV
HI, Thanks for your time and all those videos.. I´ve been learnig a lot. Here is my questions: My gear: Beholder MS1 + Sony a6000 1 - Since "there's no way" you can zoom/focus while shooting from a gimbal, does a fast (and a little bit ultrawide) prime lens more usefull for landscape, in/outdoor real estate/wedding? 2 - If it yes, which one? 3 - based on my gear... does a OSS "improve" the stabilization? Thanks Regards from Brazil
watched your review...interesting....what you think is the best stabilizer apart the weight capability? any caparison with the pilot fly or came? i want one but for the use i do 900 dollar seems a bit too much,,..699 is great price, and even better 499 of the ms1...but if the ds is so much better i could think of buying it instead
+Wilson Hoang No, the power source (the thingy that holds the batteries) that you place inside the gimbal also has a micro USB port to charge the batteries when not in use... Kind of a downside, so my advice is to get extra batteries...
Good afternoon! I just watched your video and loved it! I am wondering if this will work with my Sony FDR-AX100? I need 100mm (4 inches ) from the center of the base plate to the back of the gimbal for good clearance. ty! bob g
Joey Rocket Cryptos not really, The newer gimbals are so much easier to set up, have so much better battery life, are built better, have more modes, etc. so no it has not really stood up to the test of time. Can you still make a decent stable video with this gimbal? Absolutely. But the newer ones are in fact so much better and easier to use....
@@DarrenMiles Thanks a ton for the feedback, have others that you recommend please? I was also concerned about build quality. Do they hold up technically well or are they known to have issues. I see them on ebay for $359 which seems like a steal compared to what I paid for a ronin awhile back. Thanks a ton for your time
We've got an OMD EM5MKII and the Olympus PRO 7-14mm. Shoot lots of real estate video. Will this work with this camera and lens? Is there an better gimble than this model now?
After 9 month... Do you still recommend the DS1? I use a GH4 + MFT lenses with an Ronin-M for automotive videos - good results but heavy & big for travel... Can i get the same results with my GH4 and the DS1 ?
That's a GREAT question - no space has advanced more quickly in the last 18 months than handheld gimbals - at the time of the review I thought the DS-1 was the bees knees - however, fast forward to today, some of the latest generation gimbals (both with better/more refined build and easier set up) leave me thinking that the max payload of the DS-1 is still really good and one of it's best attributes, but the level of refinement has fallen behind the latest hand held gimbals - this is not to say the DS-1 is now a bad gimbal, far from it, but I no longer believe it's best in class, which makes sense, it's been almost a year since the review, and the 3-axis gimbal space is advancing in dog years... Team Rebel Design themselves will be coming out with the EC-1 soon...
I'm testing out the Zhiyun Crane as we speak - and I'll have a review in a few weeks - it can practically do somersaults - it's pretty amazing - not perfect, but nothing is...
Hi there! Would you recomend this Gimbal for a Canon 70D with a 18-135mm lens?. In amazon it says that this gimble can support up to 1,7kg..a lot!. And I have at the moment 1,2kg. I´m stil worried about balancing the camera with a large lense.
Hey man, totally awesome videos, watched all your gimbal videos, and I really want your honest advice since I'm buying a new one and I'm not sure which is best, from your experience, which is better, the Ikan DS1 OR the Zhiyun Crane OR the Feiye Tech MG ??...I'd appreciate your advice on this...thanks anyways for your fantastic reviews...
I bought a Beholder DS1 Camera Stabilizer, I'm having problems to calibrate, I modified some profiles to try to solve the problem I could not, have to send me the original 1,2,3,4,5 profiles I made some changes and did not back up the Originals. Thank you
Looks pretty good but I find most walking videos with any gimbal like this one there is A LOT of bobbing up and down with the footsteps, Although they are not really the same, with My DJI Ronin M I can walk, run, jog and there is not much bobbing up and down like in your example videos and most other one handle gimbals videos I have seen lately. Thanks for the review and I believe I made a mistake with my other comments below, Is this the Ikan Ds-1? If not, it is strange they have used the same name? Maybe they bought the patent and slapped their logo on them? Either way the reviews on B&H are 50/50.
+Eric Knorpp also this look like 18350or 18650 batteries and are the same ones I use for my Vaping, they make really quick chargers for those batteries so you would not have to use the same device/gimbal to charge them FYI.. Might save you some headaches if they are the same type batteries.. And the Pilotfly's made nice attachment threads in the handle so you can put an iPhone or smallHD502 type monitor on the handle which is handy in my mind..
Hi Darren, I just got my DS1 from OwlDolly after a two week delivery wait from LA to UK. but Im experiencing real problems balancing my GH4 and Olympus m.Zuiko 12mm lens. It all seems fine with the power off, the camera is steady in all positions. but when I power up theres and awful lot of initial shaking which settles after a couple of seconds then when I use the gimbal through roll axis (I drop my hand down and the handle rises) It shakes a lot when the handle is perpendicular to the camera, any idea why that might be? if anyone has any idea please comment
+Will manson I hated to wait too. Thats odd some of there gimbal have issues. Some people have bad issues with the joystick and also some vibrating. You should contact them and let them know your experiencing this issue.
+Will manson There is something called 'gimbal lock' that can happen when a gimbal actuator set goes through a 90 degree 'switch over' point. Generally in these motorised multi axis systems, that 'gimbal locking' point is setup at an angle combination that is the least likely to be used. I think you should be able to 'recalibrate' the gimbal set (once you have balanced your camera) using the small button on the camera mounting base plate. Basically try inverting the DS1 so that the camera is underneath the holding handle - then recalibrate - then see if it still starts juddering when you lift the handle to the perpendicular from that inverted position. Worth a try anyway.
Good day, I am a proud owner of Ikan EC1 beholder. I have been using it for a while without any problem. It has been working successfully with my Fujifilm Xt2 mirrorless camera with my 18-55mm lens. My problem started when I tried changing profile. I heard the beep sound but it is no longer working the way it should work and its not stabilizing anymore. it only moves left and right and the tilt and pan is not working. It spins continuously with a vibrating sound I connected it to the SimpleBGC32 v2.63 b0 to see if I can calibrate or restore back to the default factory setting that I have back up when I purchased it but it display an error saying "Sensor is not connected" Turn off power and check l2C sensor connection. NEVER CONNECT SENSOR WHEN BOARD IS POWERED Please how do I reconnect the sensor. Regards,
Thanks! Just picked one up. Can't wait to test it out.
So if my camera is not on the compatible camera list, I'm guessing it definitely won't work ???
I have a Nikon d5300 & 18-140 lens

Thanks for the review, I am assuming it will work with a Nikon D5500?
so long as you're not using a long or heavy lens, then yes!
Would the AF-S DX Zoom (18-55mm) lens be too big with a Nikon D5200?
Travis Trinh No, 18-55 is one of the smallest lens apart from the primes.
Ride With Rahul thanks!

darren nice review did you have a teleprompter? Also do you think an a7sii + fotodiox + sigma 18-35mm will work?
+Jsfilmz I use a prompter for my talking points, I'm about 50% ad lib, 50% scripted. That combo SHOULD work, but it'll be borderline as the 18-35 is heavy and long....
Does this have different modes like - head lock - pan lock - pan tilt lock or is it just full auto.
Is there a software available to adjust response of the motors in the DS1?
The music at 9:00 is incredible! Where can I find it please?

so if i want a gimbal for my RX100 should i get this or the MS1?
+Adri Dwitomo I think the RX100 will in fact work with the MS-1...
What's a "DYI filmmaker" at 7:47? Is that like a dyslexic DIY filmmaker?

YES!
Very nice review! Thanks for that. Question: If I buy a more powerfull set of 18650 batteries (9800mah) will the gimbal get a longer operating time versus the 2600mah batteries included?
I would assume so, you might want to check with Team Rebel Design to insure their compatibility...
I ordered one today. Thanks for your review!
Where did you order yours from ?

I have Sony A6000 and A7. Dose DS-1 work with both of them? I understand you are saying it depends on the combination of a camera and lens.
Hi Darren Thanks for your review .... When is this shipping ? Could not find details in their website .Any clue?
+B Rajagopal The DS-1 has proven so popular that the next shipment will be in the middle of November.
You should try out the sony 10-18 for your a7s. Its a great lens and work around 14-17mm on full frame.
Do you think a Sony a7 with the native 35mm 1.4 would balance properly? Thanks in advanced.
If you use a battery grip on the A7 will this help with balancing? Is it possible to add additional weights to balance lens combinations?
Walking shots looked pretty bumpy. Do you have a Ronin-M to do a side-by-side compare for walking shots?
+lukehmail I have the original Ronin, I found that if you walk with a little caution and intentionally soft footed, it can get better, though there is some "bounce" as you walk. Definitely less noticeable on the Ronin, but I'll sacrifice a minute bit of quality for the 7 lb weight savings.
Mr. Miles hey my name is James I work for LG here in beautiful "not so sunny" Korea :)
I just placed an order for the DS1 ($688 but with the exchange rate it is robbery) and shoot with an A7 II + Sony FE28mm F2.
Hi darren, great Review like allways.
the ds1 is larger than the ms1.
Does it make sense to use the ds1 with a small camera like the lumix lx100?
+Tony Arapovic Sure, and if you ever get anything bigger, you'd be covered!
better than a dji osmo x5?! I have a gh4 and was looking at the beholder ds-1 but am torn.
Yes - better.
+Aleksei Mutovkin If you can flip it open before you balance it'll work, if you try to flip it open during operation it won't clear the motor...
Great video mate! thanks for it. Any idea whether the GH4+ Metabones Speesboster EF/MFT adapter+ Tokina 11-16 Will work on this?
+MOR Films yes it will...
+Darren Miles you can also buy it direct from Team Rebel Design at CNC Helicopter
+Darren Miles That's great, thanks! Looking forward to getting one this month and testing with my GH4/Olympus 12mm f/2
+lbialy I haven't, but I will and will report back!
+Darren Miles Thanks a lot, it's pretty crucial for me, so i'm waiting!
Hi there! ...how it work the DS1 using Canon 5D III, with 24-105mm lens? think i've heard there is some problems carring this particular lens, Thank you in advance :)
It's because of the adapter to get his nikon lens on is A7s.. gets in the way
Hi Darren, I just bought one unit, and I noticed that the device emits a sound similar to that one of high voltage; a buzz while operatin it... I wanted to ask you if it is normal? Did the unit you show on the video emits any sound or is it absolutely silent?
tnx for the review....does the beholder work for the sony rx10 mark 3 please?
Also, is it easy to take stills with this device on?
Thanks for the info. I own the CAME Single and so far I have been happy with the results. The drawbacks being that the handle is a torture device and the weight limit is very restricting as far as lens choices go.
I'm looking to be able to use the Rokinon 14mm 2.8 with a Sony A7s. Since I wouldn't need an adapter I wouldn't have the issue of the camera being pushed too far back.
My question is do you think that this lens/camera combo would be suitable for the DS1? Thanks again for your great review.
+Joe Taravella I'm pretty sure that combination would in fact work.
+Darren Miles of course
hey thanks for the review , helped a lot. Do you khow if the ds1 will wrok properly with 6d and tamron 24-70 with the adapter ofc ?
The clips are nice, but I noticed a bounce on some of the clips. Could the bounce be removed by walking smoother?
What si the difference between this and the ikan ds1?
Can this stabilizer operate with the LCD screen opened up to the side of the camera?
+Gordon Zernich According to a balancing video by alex TDR - yes you can. He sets it up with the screen fully out to the side with the GH3 and 14-140mm lens.
hey men
thank you very much for mentioning balancing problems with small cameras and big lenses, I experienced this right outta box with the bmpcc + sigma 18-35. it nearly drove me crazy and haven't heard it mentioned on a video before, so.. thanks, thumbs up. i am now in love with you.
i believe adding a bit more weight to the pocket will solve the problem since the ds1 can manage it anyway, so ill attach a weighed quick release plate on top of the pocket, see how that works.
Can you Review Came-TV Single?
+DVKmusic It's not on my radar, but I'll look into it.
Could I tell me please if in the bag have charger for the batteries and how much operating time are the batteries
Any idea if the DS-1 will work with the Panasonic GH3?
I'm having noise and vibrations issues when I put my Lumix GH4 + 12-35mm lens :-(
Thanks, great review as always. Will you be checking out the DJI Osmo in the near future.
+halz7 Possibly, looks like the same camera that's on the Inspire 1.
will it work with the canon 650d + canon 24-70mm f2.8 II lens???
Would this work with a rode video pro dslr mic?
+John Packard just FYI for me with the mic when I had the screen out there were vibrations. So I just left the screen in, and it worked perfectly.
+MalikPhotography +MalikPhotography OK Thanks. On the post by alex TRD mentioned
elsewhere on this page, the guy actually balances one on the video with
the screen out. It vibrates with the screen flat but when he rotates it
a little the vibration went away.
will it work with a7s + canon 16-35?
do you use the lumix 12-35 for landscape video??
Will this work on a A6300 plus a 35mm Sigma art? The sigma art lens is quite heavy
Darren would this device work with lets say a much lighter camera such as a Sony HDRCX330 Handycam with a wide angle lens?
There is a minimum weight too - off the top of my head I think it's 400 grams... So if it's over that, you SHOULD be OK....
Thanks Darren:)
Thanks for the review, glad I went with the Came-tv gimbal for my a7sii.
can you get a lens plate that would let you push the body backwards so you can move the center of gravity backwards for the 14-24 combo?
+kenyee88 I don't think so, the aft motor prevents blocks the camera from moving back far enough for the center of gravity to balance...
Hey Darren, does it work in inverted mode?
+Michael Knowles Indeed it does!
DYI filmaker? :)
How does this compare to the Came-TV Single??? The DS1 doesnʻt have encorders right? Iʻm shooting with a Sony a99 right now and leaning towards the Came-TV
HI, Thanks for your time and all those videos.. I´ve been learnig a lot. Here is my questions:
My gear: Beholder MS1 + Sony a6000
1 - Since "there's no way" you can zoom/focus while shooting from a gimbal, does a fast (and a little bit ultrawide) prime lens more usefull for landscape, in/outdoor real estate/wedding?
2 - If it yes, which one?
3 - based on my gear... does a OSS "improve" the stabilization?
Thanks Regards from Brazil
watched your review...interesting....what you think is the best stabilizer apart the weight capability? any caparison with the pilot fly or came? i want one but for the use i do 900 dollar seems a bit too much,,..699 is great price, and even better 499 of the ms1...but if the ds is so much better i could think of buying it instead
Will the Ds-1 be compatible with Canon 5D mark III and the lighter Leica D-LUX 109? I know the MS-1 will work with the Leica but not the 5D.
+Jim Sielaff With the D-LUX yes, with the 5D3, really depends on the lens you pair with it. Most of Canon's primes would be fine.
Does it work with nikon d750
theres no external battery charger? thanks Darren
+Wilson Hoang No, the power source (the thingy that holds the batteries) that you place inside the gimbal also has a micro USB port to charge the batteries when not in use... Kind of a downside, so my advice is to get extra batteries...
+Darren Miles thanks darren, is there any low battery indicator?
+Wilson Hoang Yes, on the handle, the light will go from green to red, and when it's red, it's literally seconds from shutting off...
Is it possible to control the pan and tilt speed in follow mode?
+amitkedar50 I'll reach out to Team Rebel Design and find out...
Ec1 or ds1?
Good afternoon! I just watched your video and loved it! I am wondering if this will work with my Sony FDR-AX100? I need 100mm (4 inches ) from the center of the base plate to the back of the gimbal for good clearance. ty! bob g

Has it stand the test of time?
So, do ö you recommend another, newer gimbal?
Btw : Thx for the snswer & greets from Germany 😊
I'm testing out the Zhiyun Crane as we speak - and I'll have a review in a few weeks - it can practically do somersaults - it's pretty amazing - not perfect, but nothing is...
I'm having noise and vibrations issues when I put my Lumix GH4 + 12-35mm lens :-(
Would this work for my om-d 2 with my 7-14mm pro?
Hi there! Would you recomend this Gimbal for a Canon 70D with a 18-135mm lens?. In amazon it says that this gimble can support up to 1,7kg..a lot!. And I have at the moment 1,2kg.
I´m stil worried about balancing the camera with a large lense.
what is the cheapest gimbal that i can use on my lumix lx100? thanks
+bridgebolt51 I bought the beholder MS1 for the lx100, it works great but you need the adapter plate included.
Will the Sony AX-100 work with this gimbal? It's only 2 lbs, but I worry it might be too big/long...
+TheAwesomeSam With the adapter, it should...

I'm using the Nikon D750 with a Sigma 12-24 full frame lens.
Any idea if this combo works with the DS-1? I can't seem to find any info on this.
+thoughtprovoking001 it woulld
hey does this work with a gh4 w/speedbooster and sigma 18-35mm lens?
Hey man, totally awesome videos, watched all your gimbal videos, and I really want your honest advice since I'm buying a new one and I'm not sure which is best, from your experience, which is better, the Ikan DS1 OR the Zhiyun Crane OR the Feiye Tech MG ??...I'd appreciate your advice on this...thanks anyways for your fantastic reviews...
Zhiyun Crane
Hi Darren,Could you please show us your work, i.e. shooting a real estate video?
+yurovsky Sure - here's an example...
th-cam.com/video/sukLL7inmek/w-d-xo.html
+Darren Miles
Wow. Very impressive
I bought a Beholder DS1 Camera Stabilizer, I'm having problems to calibrate, I modified some profiles to try to solve the problem I could not, have to send me the original 1,2,3,4,5 profiles I made some changes and did not back up the Originals.
Thank you
Great review! Once you mentioned it's no good with the Sony E cameras when you add a adaptor i was like - nope, not for me. lol
When i push the control switch for up,down, left, right. nothing happens, how do i fix this ?
+iandf productions Press and hold the control switch, it has several modes.
+Darren Miles still unsolved. maybe i have to tune the PID settings ?
Looks pretty good but I find most walking videos with any gimbal like this one there is A LOT of bobbing up and down with the footsteps, Although they are not really the same, with My DJI Ronin M I can walk, run, jog and there is not much bobbing up and down like in your example videos and most other one handle gimbals videos I have seen lately. Thanks for the review and I believe I made a mistake with my other comments below, Is this the Ikan Ds-1? If not, it is strange they have used the same name? Maybe they bought the patent and slapped their logo on them? Either way the reviews on B&H are 50/50.
+Eric Knorpp www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1200662-REG/ikan_ds1_beholder_gimbal_for.html#customerReview
I see a ton of reviews with smaller cameras. Does anyone know what kind of lenses I can use with my Canon 6D?
It should, but it'll be dependent on the lens....
70d + sigma 18-35 1.8 can i work with it?
It SHOULD, but I'd be a bit concerned that the 18-35 might be a bit front heavy...
thanks for the fast response.. :D
any 18650 type li ion battery is compatible with this? like samsung, panasonic, lg etc????
+Kiran Varma One set of batteries last for me whole day of filmming, not constant of curse.
I just ordered one base on your review.
+Pollux Chung Great! Enjoy!
+Darren Miles where can I get one from ?
Anyone used with a canon lens TSE 24 mm?
Good day,
I am a proud owner of Ikan EC1 beholder. It spins continuously with a vibrating sound
I connected it to the SimpleBGC32 v2.63 b0 to see if I can calibrate or restore back to the default factory setting that I have back up when I purchased it but it display an error saying "Sensor is not connected"
Turn off power and check l2C sensor connection. NEVER CONNECT SENSOR WHEN BOARD IS POWERED
Please how do I reconnect the sensor.
Regards,
