Aleta Sill won 6 major titles also. She won the Queens event in 1983 and 1985. The Sam's Town Invitational twice, and the women's us open twice. The late Marion Ladewig won the women's us open a record 8 times.
I thought the same thing until I heard an interview with Kelly (here on TH-cam - didn't make the ESPN show) which said they had the option of stripping/oiling the lanes between each match and chose not to. That they had the option to scrub the lanes (lets just call it for what it is) between matches and they chose not to is new information. I blamed the BPAA for their stupidity for allowing this nightmare to be broadcast and to present this as the best women's bowling has.
You would think that the wind will play a factor on how the ball moves. Cant agree with you more, I'm wondering if there scores would be higher if it was played inside.
Unfortunately the event was only given a 90 minute broadcast slot. If they didn't edit anything out with very few strikes being thrown by the contestants, a 2 hour time slot would have been needed.
I applaud them for trying something new. And it's not as if the wind is going to have much effect on a 15lbs ball. Dust could be more of a problem though...
They need to bring back the women's pro tour. This is a breath of fresh air compared to watching the majority of showboaters on the men's tour. And Lynda Barnes is looking good at 44. Working the specs.
I was one of the spectators here. Great match. I knew kelly was going to win before hand since i saw qualifying. No girl is at her level. I got to congratulate her afterwards at Trivoli with her hair down and she's breathtaking up close. The wind and dust was insane!
Yes, she is!!!! It's a shame they had the finals moved outside which really turned this telecast into a quagmire. It was a game of survival and didn't showcase the true skill level of any of these ladies.
Reading the comments on here made me laugh. To the “just flatten your hand and throw plastic” commenters, you’ve obviously never played on stripped lanes before. I had the privilege of bowling league on a pair of stripped lanes a few years ago due to the lane oiling machine breaking down. It was something which can’t be described you just have to attempt to play on the condition to fully understand the challenge… And yes, plastic balls being thrown with a flat hand as hard as possible still started the hook phase at your feet. It is impossible to simply overpower/flatten your hand out to overcome the condition. No one on the pair broke a 400 series for the night… For the ladies on this telecast I applaud the effort. This was a grind it out event for sure.
Wow! The entire show in one video? Awesome, thanks soooo much for uploading this! Heard some interesting things about the scores in this if u know what I mean.
I was at the event last year and Kelly was not herself obviously that day. I remember watching her practice last year in between matches and she was leaving splits then. But my goodness it was hard to watch these great women bowlers struggle on such tough conditions on the lanes and with the weather. But that is why they are pros. They are the best and they bowl anytime anywhere. This was just the extreme.
why were they playing the far inside part of the lane like that? i feel like it would be nearly impossible to create proper angle into the pocket that way
Let's see how you'd do on these exact playing conditions with dust scattered around the lanes. I doubt that you would. The playing conditions you've played on are far more forgiving than what these gals faced in Reno, NV
Another question raised is how long ago (time wise) were the lanes oiled prior to the start of the show? Now with all that said, congrats to Kelly Kulick on winning the most grotesque of grindout conditions.
dude, even if you weren't talking about a wii, you are still not taking into account that they are bowling on a pro pattern (not a house that you were on), and this is outside as well, so the pattern would be breaking down at an incredible rate.
Add wind and oil pattern to the list, I guess that's what you meant with forgiving conditions. But to point it out might make it more clear to someone like him.
Sorry for being confusing here. I'm an old person{over 30) and back in the day, you would say pound for pound if you were comparing men and women, not just their weight. It's a little crude to say body part for body part, so us old folks would say pound for pound. Hope that clears things up. And I stand by my statement! {Just in case, I'm saying she's better than all the guys presently.)
Absolutely. I bowl a 16 lb ball... No brace. Even when I bowl many games. Heck, I don't even own one. Strengthen the wrist and practice proper technique. :)
he probably meant room for error when he used "forgiving". the THS usually have too huge a room for error (i.e. getting your lucky strikes/breaks as you may call it)
Is the USBC trying to kill women's bowling!? This was beyond painful to watch and I love watching bowling. Can't imagine what the average viewer is thinking seeing this.... What a stupid venue to have the finals. Congrats to Kelly but wow.... this was just horrible to watch.
I love bowling, mens or womens. I even have a style similar to Kelly's. But this telecast puts bowling to shame with all the whiffed spares. Then again, these conditions were horendous
@ bgmnzz usbc did all they could for the show i was a part of the build and we didnt the best to our ability to keep the lanes clean but theres jus times when ur hand is dekt that way
damn it would be tough to bowl outdoors. bowling on a 5 person league and the lanes get chewed up then can't imagine throwing some wind and dirt in the mix.
No matter how many times I watch this and how good I acknowledge these bowlers are, there are things that bother me about their performance. 1) Apparently none of the best female bowlers in the world can throw a plastic ball straight?! By straight I mean straight, NO ROTATION. 2) Why isn't anyone trying to get some loft over part of the heads? 3) I know it's not common, but with all the trouble they had I'm surprised no one tried the left side with a backup ball...or a backup SPARE ball!
Well that would not really matter much. At the start of the show they had mentioned that there was a dust storm that had kicked up after they had already applied the lane pattern out there. So with all that sand and dirt on the lane you could throw a Manhattan Rubber and it would still hook off the lane like resin.
What I don't understand is that with only one pair of lanes. Why didn't they strip and re-oil them after the dust storm? They could have done that very quickly within a commercial break or two.
Keep in mind, these women bowlers aren't capable of throwing it as hard as the men. After all, this is not the Petersen Classic. The damn ball are rolling out at their feet and they are throwing plastic!!!
Personally, I'd drop my strides and take a huge dump on them and walk off. About all they're good for. Of interest, these brand new installed lanes had to be thrown away after this broadcast because they were so badly damaged by the dust getting into the surface. A *lot* of money wasted that could've gone to the players.
That is great, but it's not the same as the mens us open pattern, im not saying this is easy but its definitely not as difficult as the mens us open, im just making sure you know that there is an extreme difference. In the mens us open this year Kelly finished 46th and averaged 203.08 like i said a lot different
I agree it was dumb to move it out side. Moving it out side is almost as dumb as saying hey lets just strip the lane for the TV final that should make it tough..
4) Surprises me no one decided to try playing the gutter. I'm dead sure there was a good hook-stop shot there. 5) Wrist braces have absolutely no place in elite level competition. 3/5 finalists wore them this show. I will not show respect for that at all. Good Lord is that a disgrace for elite level competition.
Whoever thought the desert would be a good place to have an outdoor bowling event should look for a new job
Probably the same person that put the 2007 USBC Masters in Miller Park
That was a nice location. Kudos to challenging these pros.
Close your eyes when Chris Barnes is commentating and try not to think about Kermit the Frog.
lol
true story!!
Taylor Tupy 😂😂😂😂
This event was run by their sister organization the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America. Thanks for the kudos.

while outdoor bowling does sound/look good, i think competitions should be kept inside
You would think that the wind will play a factor on how the ball moves. Cant agree with you more, I'm wondering if there scores would be higher if it was played inside.
@@planetX15 without a doubt
Missy Parkin is my cousin. I'm going to teen master nationals this year and I carry a 221 avg.
Unfortunately the event was only given a 90 minute broadcast slot. If they didn't edit anything out with very few strikes being thrown by the contestants, a 2 hour time slot would have been needed.

That DV8 spare ball looks awesome!
the Worst bowling setting in history.
They need to bring back the women's pro tour. This is a breath of fresh air compared to watching the majority of showboaters on the men's tour. And Lynda Barnes is looking good at 44. Working the specs.
This is why we bowl indoors, bloody tough conditions!
this would have been cool for a fun event like a fund raiser maybe but not a masters final.
I was one of the spectators here. Great match. I knew kelly was going to win before hand since i saw qualifying. No girl is at her level. I got to congratulate her afterwards at Trivoli with her hair down and she's breathtaking up close. The wind and dust was insane!
Theres no way anyone could of predicted this outcome with the outdoor conditions.
out of the top five bowlers, the overall average for the telecast is 161. more than 60 pins from their averages in the stadium.
Irishpogi, you should be sainted for this! Thanks ever so much not only for this but for all you do for bowling fans.
I liked it when they first did it years ago, but a day like this makes you wonder how good an idea it really is.
USBC was trolling offering 1m for a perfect game. They knew this would happen.
Yes, she is!!!! It's a shame they had the finals moved outside which really turned this telecast into a quagmire. It was a game of survival and didn't showcase the true skill level of any of these ladies.
Bowling outside = Brutal Pattern that drys extremely quickly
In the dry desert, there could also easily be particles of sand blowing onto the lane
Thanks for the upload irishpogi! I kind of enjoy outdoor telecasts...but doing this in the desert was a *terrible* idea.
Thanks irishpogi. Greatly appreciated..
Kelly Kulick and Missy Parkin have bowled some exciting matches

What you talking about? These ladies are superb bowlers and I do wish they go back to televising their tour.

As a kid I used to throw around an old rubber bowling ball in the back yard. Not a joke. The ball wouldn't hook, but it didn't go that far either🎳🌳😁
I wouldn't have broken 100 bowling on this condition, but I can bet I probably would have broken my neck on those approaches. YIKES!
The original broadcast was so fragmented, I thought it was best to post the entire show instead of splitting it up
why were they playing the far inside part of the lane like that? i feel like it would be nearly impossible to create proper angle into the pocket that way

File that under "What were they thinking?"
what a bunch of greatly talented & beautiful ladies. Is it wrong to say I watched the whole hour+ of this and am turned on by it?
In the 20+ years I've been a bowler I sure as hell never bowled outside before. :o
For a bowler, Shannon O'Keefe is really attractive! Most women bowlers are some-what attractive, but she is just, Wow!
Lynda Barnes my fav. bowler!
Another question raised is how long ago (time wise) were the lanes oiled prior to the start of the show? Now with all that said, congrats to Kelly Kulick on winning the most grotesque of grindout conditions.
how did i get here?
there were a lot of open frames in the Women's U.S. Open
dude, even if you weren't talking about a wii, you are still not taking into account that they are bowling on a pro pattern (not a house that you were on), and this is outside as well, so the pattern would be breaking down at an incredible rate.
I feel like if Fagan was out here, he'd be good because he plays deep inside and can loft it.
I stand by my statement and would love to see a match between them. And Carolyn D-B would give them both a hell of a match!
Hi, guys! Help me plz, What song is playing in the beginning of the video?

this video won't play -a long with a ton of other videos. Can anyone help me?
no. kelly kulick qualified #1 with 241.6 :) it is shown in the vid.
If you have the pba shootout please post. Sundays are for league bowling; Damn Wimbeldon.
he probably meant room for error when he used "forgiving". the THS usually have too huge a room for error (i.e. getting your lucky strikes/breaks as you may call it)
It was like watching a trainwreck with fireworks.
Is the USBC trying to kill women's bowling!? This was beyond painful to watch and I love watching bowling. Can't imagine what the average viewer is thinking seeing this.... What a stupid venue to have the finals. Congrats to Kelly but wow.... this was just horrible to watch.
This is what bowling was like inthe1940sand 1950s.
What song is playing at the beginning of the video?
You tell me. You're the Superbowler
I love bowling, mens or womens. I even have a style similar to Kelly's. But this telecast puts bowling to shame with all the whiffed spares. Then again, these conditions were horendous
Worst Championship I've ever seen.
@ bgmnzz usbc did all they could for the show i was a part of the build and we didnt the best to our ability to keep the lanes clean but theres jus times when ur hand is dekt that way
That oil pattern was playing like reverse block
That's only because the wind blew a large abundance of dust particles onto the lane.
damn it would be tough to bowl outdoors. bowling on a 5 person league and the lanes get chewed up then can't imagine throwing some wind and dirt in the mix.
bowling outdoors would be cool but it would suck for the bowling lanes to go from oily lanes to dead dry lanes in only 5 frames
I think I would rather go to jail then have to watch an hour of women's bowling.
Keep doing what? I don't get it.
And, the tournament director was one Stefanie Nation...
Dam, what a tough lane condition to bowl on. I wonder if I could break a hundred on it?
I'm just not understanding why theyre not moving much farther left?
Well by the title match you can't but game 1 should have been the easiest move to make. LEFT your right
Well that would not really matter much.
Bowling was NEVER an OUTDOOR sport give me a break
How would you play these lanes?
There's only 1 thing you could do, and that's throw it hard and straight at the head pin. Simply can't hook it when the lanes are reacting this nuts
Keep in mind, these women bowlers aren't capable of throwing it as hard as the men. After all, this is not the Petersen Classic. The damn ball are rolling out at their feet and they are throwing plastic!!!
But yes Michael, that would be the correct thing to do. Fire it at the head pin and hope for 9 or better. Fill frames.
Personally, I'd drop my strides and take a huge dump on them and walk off. About all they're good for.
Of interest, these brand new installed lanes had to be thrown away after this broadcast because they were so badly damaged by the dust getting into the surface.
A *lot* of money wasted that could've gone to the players.
it doesn't rain in Reno...
Aren't outdoor lanes fabulous?! Makes for a much more interesting game =) love watching the Geico team shootout when they bowl on the outdoor lanes.
Geico shootout wasnt even close to what they dealt with in reno with dust on the lanes from tremendous winds
@@alexmerel9924 and the dust

Amongst many of the things I want to do in life..this is my big dream.
is that the benchmark linda was bowling with?
Except the usbc had nothing to do with this.
Really a great bowler. average score 241 in us open pattern, ridiculous
Let's see how you perform on the exact conditions these gals faced.
I agree it was dumb to move it out side. Moving it out side is almost as dumb as saying hey lets just strip the lane for the TV final that should make it tough..

Posting event coverage from espn
Overall i liked the event if it was done a day before things would have been really good
bowling outside will affect the ball rotation and your skirt will fly up
Anyone else notice Elvis in the crowd?
Nora Dunn is a pretty good bowler.
O keefe threw the best game of anyone. Bad carry killed her chances
I hope you mean bowl the US Open final rather than bowl outdoors in a dust-ridden environment. Not sure you could pay me enough to do the latter
Las personas que tuvieron la brillante idea de ponerlas a jugar al aire libre , seguramente no tienen idea del juego.
Shannon O'Keefe looks a little bit like Gia Paloma... sweeet!
She is hot.
bowling wasn't invented inside... the conditions were the same for all the players... cool event.
they need to take those wrist braces off and move to the left. if you hook the ball, stand on the left
No wonder Liz Johnson didn’t qualify for 2012.
Try and play straight on the conditions they bowled on...it'll hook right into the gutter
Yesterday is my first time playing bowling.. and I scored 163... Is it good enough for a beginner?
no, the wicked encounter, then the violent eruption, then the freeze hybrid
no turkeys here. try the kitchen.
No hambones either
wow, pete's got a ways to go!
Whoever had the idea to bowl in these conditions probably thought:
Oh yeah, now you have to bowl with the shitty scores I get.. have fun. 😈
