for forty seven years ralph towner's music has brought me pleasure. these are beautiful renditions and my favorite way of hearing ralph's music=nylon string solo. thankyou for putting this out.
I find the most interesting modern music is jazz mixed with classical., along with Ted Greene, one of the very few to translate Bill Evans harmony to the guitar. You will notice every solo recording he plays something from the Bill Evans catalogue.
Classical ? ! Part of Towner’s genius is to explore the rarely trod ground between Classical music and Jazz. I’m not sure he would be happy with one genre laying claim to his music (and I’m certainly not) and ignoring his improvisational skills. By all means celebrate his music - it deserves to be celebrated - but don’t ignore improvisation and his collaborations with principally jazz musicians. Manfred Eicher (who had Jazz and Classical labels at ECM) recorded him for decades and released his music on the Jazz side, not the Classical. Strictly, it’s neither, but the fact that he consciously worked in this unique fusion musical world is very much part of his genius.
My mind likes to categorize things, but in the case of much of Towner's solo guitar work the categorization is not simple and thus unimportant. The music stands for itself. These pieces were beautifully performed, thank you.

Every time I hear Towner’s stuff for nylon strings I ask myself why he bothers with a twelve-string. Then I hear him on a twelve-string …

Nice piece but strange breathing noise in background?
I thought this was Joan Tower
