Segregated communities around the country came together this weekend sporting union jacks and reminding everyone that no matter what their background, race, religion, etc, they are all here now in UK living, working, getting on with life, and contributing under the banner of Great Britain. The queen is the symbol of the country's evolution to what it is today.
If the UK ever faced the same plight as Ukraine for example, you can be darn sure that every Brit from an asian, carribean, african, eastern european, any background would be right at the front of the queue fighting alongside the english, scots, welsh, irish to protect UK.
An event like this is what builds cohesion and spirit, despite the obvious divisions across the communities. You cant put a price on that.
Think of it as a team building session in any corporate setting. The benefits are intrinsic and the ROI is visible over time..

I wish posters would actually research before they post. The queen along with the working family, generate far more than they actually cost to maintain. So from a purely business point of view, why the heck would you want to get rid of something that benefits you and the country as a whole?

It's not like these "frivolities" happen every weekend. The Platinum Jubilee is a once in a lifetime occasion, celebrating the Queen and her 70-year reign on the throne. Also, having come out of a 2-year pandemic where people have been locked down and some can't even afford to go on holiday, I think this was good enough a reason for them have fun and celebrate.

Then theres the money they make for tourism plus fact while Scottish upper class high society was kicking up a fuss she was first to sign right to roam act. Meaning public can walk anywhere on balmoral or anywhere else in Scotland. Then there is all other charity work they do, princes trust and Duke of Edinburgh have changed lives. Plus in times of need they are there, look at Manchester bombing, her and William were straight up and her majesty went straight to kids hospital to meet survivors. People say they are outdated and the moneys a waste, even though they make more money and put more taxes in than most rich. Whilst there is criticism out there for the cost of the Jubilee, it should be noted you can't buy this kind of publicity. After Covid and travel bans It's already been said that this was a great kick start to the tourism business. Hotels, restaurants, airlines and transport systems were reporting they hadn't seen this volume of business in the last 10 years. It wasn't just in London, it was a Bank Holiday week end which saw events up and down the length and breadth of the UK with people out and spending once again. People from around the world witnessed the events and saw the places. Many of the people commenting on the success of the Jubilee have stated it has inspired them to want to go and experience the wonderful locations and destinations which featured the pomp and pageantry of this event. Without the Monarchy you simply have history books and reminiscences. All the attractions people wish to visit are promoted because it's kept very proudly alive, without it you have nothing but a vast collection of historic monuments which without notoriety wouldn't attract in the vast numbers they do.
The UK got it right once again with this event, people for years to come are going to plan and anticipate travel to these wonderful sights and experiences.

Total nonsense. Piers arguing that the Queen is 96 and still working and anyone that doesn’t support her is wrong because they wouldn’t be doing the same at 96 and still working is really wrong.
Let’s be crystal clear. The Queen, Charles, William, Kate etc will all be “working” into their old age because it’s not working. They haven’t worked a proper day in their life.
They have never had to worry about paying bills.
They have never had to worry about putting food on the table.
They have never had to apply for jobs.
They have never had go without.
Yes the Queen is still working if you call it that at 96 but so would most of us if we had lived the privileged life she has.
All she has to do is make an appearance at so many events each year and that’s it. It’s hardly work. She wakes up. Someone has her clothes sorted for her. Someone has her breakfast sorted for her. Someone has her travel arrangements sorted for her. Someone has any requirement she wants sorted for her. All she has to do is show up, smile, shake a few hands and wave.
It’s hardly hard work and the same goes for all the other royals.
And the ordinary person actually working has a percentage of their wage taken in tax each month of which part of it goes towards and allows this family to live like this and yet she the Queen expects the ordinary person to bow to her if they were to ever meet. The royals family should be bowing to every hard working person out there that allows their family to live this silly privileged life they live.
And before anyone says they bring in so much money from tourism. Do they really? With the exception of 1 city in England that benefits from their existence where else in the UK benefits from the royals existing. Exactly …. Nowhere. Tourists don’t got to Scotland, Wales or anywhere in the England because of the royals.
I don’t wish them harm but i also don’t see a reason for having them in this position in this day and age.

The Monarch is constitutionally important to our system of government. In the current Queen's reign the UK has gone from having the largest empire in world history to being a medium sized country on the periphery of Europe, all with internal political continuity and unimpaired stability. To some degree this is due to the way the Queen has acted in office, albeit passively. Could this have been done under another system? Possibly, though precedents elsewhere are not promising. All we do know is that political continuity and stability has endured within the UK throughout a reign that has seen an enormous transformation in this country's circumstances. She deserves some recognitionj for her role in that. The Jubilee celebrations are appropriate. I write this without having contributed to, taken part in, or even witnessed much of them.

I feel its ok to celebrate her but to spend the enormous amounts of money when gas is going up and people need help after.covid.
I can see both sides of this debate and I love what the monarchy stands for ,(what it means to the people) What I do not understand is the amounts of money that can be used to help the people who are struggling. How can some even celebrate when they struggle for food ect....
The royals do raise money for certain charities and thats wonderful. I think the first focus should be on the people who need a hand up along with charities.
I am so proud of the queen and her dedication to service she is an amazing women.
There is however way too much privilege given (in forms of expenses for houses, clothes, staff) there is absolutely no need for such spending. If the monarchy was somewhat frugal to show they serve the people it would make more sense... The monarchy needs to do more and spend less...Millions in homes.... alone

The jubilee gave tons of people a jobs, made a pile of money from tourism and television rights and gave free entertainment to people who probably couldn't even afford to go to the movies!! I was just about to fork out $6,000 plus (to fly B.A. and spend the rest in the U.K.) to be there but my passport had expired!!
Luckily I saw it on a T.V. channel that had no doubt paid a British company a queen's ransom for the rights.

It's not fair to have a monarchy anymore.

There will be a fortune spent by tourists who come to UK for the jubilee.
Without this they will go elsewhere for their holiday.

If you had any valid points you wouldn't be scared of debate. Can you give even 1 good reason why we should have a monarchy or respect royalty?
