Norn is basically what Rudeus could’ve been in his previous life. Not exceptional but had those necessary traits, which were the reason y she went a different path from him and I feel she shows the themes of mushoku tensei as well as rudeus.
There's also the part where Rudeus used his past experience to help Norn and by doing it he solved another of his past regret. He's unwilling to give up and left Norn thinking that in his past he might be able to get out if someone never gave up on him. In that one instances Norn actually saved Rudeus as much as Rudeus saved Norn. This is a theme of Rudeus journey where he solved mistake of his past life by actively choosing the opposite in his new life. This happens until the culmination of his past life mistake is undone That is after he attend to his parent funeral, something he failed to do in his past life. We can mark that point as where Rudeus reach full maturity as character separate from his past life.
Norn being the proper version of Rudeus in his previous life? I don't think so. Rudeus is a child prodigy and an honor student before the bullying incident in his previous life. Not to sht on Norn but Earth Rudeus still have better stats than her, though Norn's resilience outclassed both versions of Rudeus by a dimension or two.

Redundancy Details incoming so SPOILERS: Another rarely discussed aspect of Norn is touched upon somewhat indirectly by Orsted in the first Redundancy chapter after the end of the series and concerns her role as a mother. To summarize, in the original unaltered timeline, Norn becomes of wife of Ruijerd Superdia after being rescued by him. They then travel together until Ruijerd discovers the remains of the last Superdia tribe in the Biheilil Kingdom. After a time (it's not specified but probably a couple years), they give birth to Luicelia Superdia and Ruijerd shortly thereafter passes away from the then unknown Dryne Syndrome. The reason Orsted brings this up is because in all other timelines their daughter, Luicelia Superdia, is the only remaining Superd in the world and must consequently be present at the final battle against Demon God Laplace on account of the Superd's 3rd eye being an ABSOLUTE requirement for finding Laplace's weak point and killing him. She is therefore one of the very few people that Orsted befriends in every timeline regardless of circumstance, thus his desire to pair them up in this timeline as well. Though vague, Orsted's retelling specifies that Norn eventually dies, smiling on her deathbed satisfied with a job well done raising Luicelia. How many years Luicelia stays in Biheilil Kingdom afterwards isn't specified, however, as is made clear in the main series, despite the waning of the Curse of Hatred over time..... old habits die hard. It is effectively guaranteed that after Norn's death, Luicelia is met with very open hostility by nearly everyone she meets thereafter (likely the only exceptions being anyone she rescues). Even without the curse, she's still the physical embodiment of this world's boogeyman. She is scorned, hated, possibly even unjustly hunted, persecuted, and attacked on countless occasions like her father before her.... and it's remarkable that a child left all alone in such a hostile environment would choose to save the very people that treat her with such contempt. The only explanation is Norn's parenting to prepare her for the inevitable malice she'd be subjected to. Given the end result in the original timeline(s), it seems clear that Norn was successful in passing on her defining virtues. Luicelia Superdia was raised to be a resilient, self-critical, emotionally mature, sincere lady with an indominable spirit and unshakeable work ethic. She single handedly shoulders the burden of saving humanity, reclaims the lost honor of the Superd Tribe, and becomes a legendary hero in the annals of (alternate) history. Norn was goddamn right to smile on her deathbed. Any parent would be proud.

Still, I remember when Rifujin was asked which POV he wanted to write if Rudeus wasn't the main character, he answered that it would be Norn. That always stuck with me.
I mean it makes sense. She is essentially a normal person who just so happened to live between monsters and living legends. And that final line just hit- "In a world filled with heroes and prodigies, Norn is an ordinary person struggling to find her place in life." Like most of us, she's one character most viewers and readers can relate very much to.

Mushoku Tensei is all about character growth. Rudy is a story about how a scumbag can redeem himself somewhat--through humility, patience, wisdom, hard work, looking out for other's best interests, and at times self-sacrifice. Norn is the story of how someone who loathes themselves, can find eventually earn their own acceptance and develop their resiliency and devotion Ruijerd is how a faliure of a father and chieftan, can restore the reputation of his tribe and eventually find some semblance of forgiveness for himself Eris... Sylphie... Roxy... The Princess... Orsted... All of the characters in JR have a very developed character arc. They start with glaring flaws, but develop either the maturity, strength, and connections to help them grow past their weakness. They grow beyond their previous selves. Mushoku Tensei is very well written in terms of psychologial development and social dynamics. The writer & Directors have been really earnest and mindful.
Orsted is the embodiment of failure. He is the weakened half-breed between a real god and a trickster (although never even remotely hinted at, just weirdly explained: i.e. she pacifies people by her mere presence and is ultimately the trojan horse), who is thrust into an unending war, from the moment he is born, and whom has the entire weight of creation on his back. He was failed at being a son, he fails at his objective, he fails to bond with those he tries to save. He fails at even measuring up to his parents... That is the predicament that the saviour of all things must bear and strive for victory despite of.
@@TheKueiJin that's a really interesting perspective. I had never considered that before, and I initially wanted to deny it because of how extreme it sounds when compared to how I saw Orsted. However the points you made--while sounding extreme, like they're coming from someone with clinical depression--are all technically and objectively true, even when removing the subjective opinions. Even though people largely don't see him the way you described, he might still see himself in that light. He could very well be struggling with that perspective deep inside.
@@KumaBones This is all probably exacerbated by the fact that his curse isolates him deeply so he literally has zero people that can support him through that. Norn's awakening came when she saw Rudeus, someone she internally put on an unreachable pedestal, nervous about being rejected by her. Orsted had no one until Rudy. Makes their initial meeting even worse imo.
I loved this video so much, ill love to see your videos of every character, you have a really nice way of talking that feels so good when i listen to your videos
All of them are gifted: Rudeus is physically gifted (in terms of his use of magic) Aisha is mentally gifted (she's a genius academically) Norn is emotionally gifted (she literally did what Rudeus can't at the age of 11)
Bro this video was so introspective and detailed. It reminded me of just how well written the characters of Mushoku are. You should definitely do this for other characters as well🔥.
Mushoko Tensei will always be in my top 10 stories of all time and reason is simple the characters, they help us fight our insecurities and be better person 😊
Yknow one of the reasons why I like Mushoku Tensei is that the characters feel like real people. So when they do die like in the future when their old and gone the kids are grown up I just feel sad and happy like someone I know just passed away. Kinda hate the feeling tho.
What have I learned today? To not watch Mushoku Tensei videos because I always spoil myself on major story events, lol. Great video, but I think I will step back from these videos.
I genuinely was skeptical that I could be convinced Norn was the best character in a series where there are so many incredible and perplexing characters... But in a very Norn-like fashion your sincerity in this video essay was so compelling I can't argue a single thing about it. Rudy's return back home after the difficult journey from the Begaritt Continent was honestly one of the hardest and most valuable moments for me to get through reading, particularly because of Norn and the way she took the news of her father. Fantastic video, 10/10 would recommend to other MT fans!
3 minutes in and im already tearing up, the story the character of this novel is fantastic. I love it. reading it made me forget the real world but reminded me of it too.
You summarize and explain very well spoken points and I appreciate your hard work and effort put into these scripts and videos. I enjoy your content, please keep up the good work. Were you ever considering doing a video about Eris? A lot of my anime only friends still don’t like Eris and claim Sara is just a better version of Eris right now, but if you could make a non-spoiler video explaining why Eris is on her journey to the sword sanctum and how it will impact Rudeus later on and help him? Please and thank you.
Norn is my fav character. I like her since her debut. I like her even more now. And i dont like Aisha that much. I even dislike her more after read her side story(Ars- Aisha story you know). Her dev is just dont moved me.
man i cant express my gratitude for not only loving the series but also giving atention to those underated characters in mushoku tensei please make more (you earned yourself a subscriber)
This is a quality video! I've never noticed Norn's life while reading the novel as I was focused on Rudeus. I've always thought that Norn is such a clumsy, crybaby and average character. But after this video, I realized that she has one of the most relatable life, unlike rudeus who lives an adventurous one.
I will never understand how anyone at any point in reading the story could hate Norn. Some readers just really lack any empathy and can’t imagine how real of a character Norn feels.
I hope some day I can lock myself away watching everything in this video that was pulled from the novels in the anime in one go. Some might do a Lord of the Rings Marathon, but I will do a Mushoku Tensei Marathon one day.
the reason mushoku tensei is the best is because all the characters feel like actual people and everyone is living their own realistic lives with their own problems. it's not just the main character and the people around him
In my observation it seems fairly normal for fans of a series to hate any "normal" or "average" characters whether or not its really for warranted reasons or really just expressions of annoyance that they just exist. I do like that this character exists to serve as a reminder of Rudeus's first life.
peak hear me for I have spoken this is peak peak PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
one part of why i love that story so much and why the LN moved me at some points even to tears. The character deepness and how they develop is just great.
Did you read the redundancy chapters before the author removed some very controversial parts of it? If so, I understand where you're coming from. I was confused and disappointed at her too.
yet people hate her becouse she is annoying and spoiled people just get used to super human character that they forget weakness in character make it alive and Norn actually have a reason why she is having inferiority complex
Norn is another character with overblown melodrama like Mizore from Hibike Euphonium. The fact that Norn actually improved in the end just proves Aisha correct that Norn never tried. She could've improved far sooner if she let Aisha help her initially, then Rudy afterwards.
Although I disagree on her being the story's greatest character, I can at least whole heartedly agree on all of your notes otherwise. I can't wait to see her animated and voiced, as well as Rudy finally getting the chance to be a big brother. Norn would be an excellent MC for a Mushoku Tensei slice of life spin-off, I really think that could work.
I was like norn, i always compare myself to others, but once i realize not a single thing in this world matters in the universal scale i became the happiest version of my self. Dont make life too complicated people.
3:33 (time Into the vid that I post this). You’ve helped give me a greater perspective of Norn’s character in the story. I think as I’ve not read through the chapter more than once, it was easy for me to pass her off at that moment in the story, as nothing more than an inexperienced kid, who didn’t fully understand the circumstances that surrounded her, and as such, failed to grasp what Rudy, her father, and everyone else were trying to do in order to help both her and the circumstances surrounding them all. I understood that she felt helpless, and held contempt for her brother on multiple levels, but you’ve helped to broaden my perspective. Awesome analysis, you have my thanks!
Man, my respect level for the author is just increasing exponentially at this point...I can't believe the incredible depth of the characters-it clearly speaks to the level of talent of the crafter, and it's something I've noticed lacking in much of or even most of modern mainstream fiction. I'm awestruck that Norn is in the same tale just with rudeus alone and he's far from the only example
Ah yes, the greatly written Charisma Build character, Norn. This is what makes this series great, every character feels alive, every character has a great life and is equally if not better than our protagonist.
I'm still not a fan of Norn. But I will give high praise to the character development of all the characters. It's written in a way that we can all somehow relate to in one way or another. What I like most about the series is the growth in each character and how honest their struggles are. Most writers cater to writing for a check and for what's popular. But this anime is unique in how it gets its message across with it's diverse set of characters.
Norn is another character with overblown melodrama like Mizore from Hibike Euphonium. The fact that Norn actually improved in the end just proves Aisha correct that Norn never tried. She could've improved far sooner if she let Aisha help her initially, then Rudy afterwards.
I like Norn a lot. She may not be my personal farourite character, but she's up there. She is also pretty much the only person in the entire main family that isn't a horny gremlin. You'd think Rudy would be the worst, but no. Everyone is just so horny, Norn is a golden beacon of purity in the family.
While I love Norn I also love Rudeuses monologue during the shut in incident. Like Rudeus is awesome. He can kill monsters, is the coolest guy at school, has a beautiful wife that loves him. He has achieved so much and yet, when confronted with his crying sister he couldn’t do a thing. He just sat there near her, no knowing what to say, if there even is something right to say. All he could do, was being there. And Norn got it. She finally understood what the audience learned so long ago. That despite all his awesomeness, at his core Rudeus is just a confused lonely guy that just wants to be liked and loved. And seeing be that humanity made her ready to open herself and accept herself in return. Letting each other into their hearts. Great series
I'd go as far as saying most of the characters in Mushoku Tensei are so well written that an argument can be made that any of them are "the best character".
Great video! I don't usually sit through video essays like this the whole way through, but you constantly had me engaged the whole time and really reminded me why I love Mushoku Tensei's character writing so much.
I'm with you all the way. It's great how the author managed to captivate our interests with such incredibly flawed characters. But I guess it's because they were all incredibly flawed that we were able to relate with them in the first place.
I feel like i am missing parts. isnt ch.91 the newest manga chapter ? Or are we talking about the NL aswell here ? It would be nice if someone could answer. thy
Alright...okay. I feel better now. Having just watched the anime episode where Norn and Aisha move in with Rudeus, I was feeling annoyed by Norn, which lessens my enjoyment of watching anime. This vid popped up in my recs, and since I'm completely unbothered by spoilers, I figured I'd give it a watched. Now I can wait for the next ep with a lighter heart. Thanks.👍
Me enjoying the video: (○ω○) Me when part 3: o.o! Bro spoiler warnings, man! Please! The rest of the video was awesome but yeah I can only pray to God I somehow forget that by the time the episode airs in English.
Honestly, I think she and Aisha shouldn’t have been there. During that discussion. It was a conversation between husband and wife. Meaning both Rudy, Roxy, and Sylphie. Although I can’t blame her for being hypocritical back there. Her father was killed, while her mother is stuck in a dream like state forever. Then suddenly her brother commits adultery due to the loss of his father. She reacted that way because of emotions were somewhat spiraling during that particular moment. She was angry about the fact that her brother wanted to take Roxy as his second wife who looks like a pre-teen. That goes against her own religion. So that was a normal reaction. The series was just displaying this episode scene to create drama for the fans to talk about.

Norn the Normie
She is admirable. I wish all of us strength and tenacity that she has. Mushoku Tensei is so well written it's incredible. I read 7-23 LNs in 6 days
Mushoku Tensei is all about character growth.
Rudy is a story about how a scumbag can redeem himself somewhat--through humility, patience, wisdom, hard work, looking out for other's best interests, and at times self-sacrifice.
Norn is the story of how someone who loathes themselves, can find eventually earn their own acceptance and develop their resiliency and devotion
Ruijerd is how a faliure of a father and chieftan, can restore the reputation of his tribe and eventually find some semblance of forgiveness for himself
Eris...
Sylphie...
@@TheKueiJin thank you for that insight. I appreciate the understanding.
All of them are gifted:
Rudeus is physically gifted (in terms of his use of magic)
Aisha is mentally gifted (she's a genius academically)
Norn is emotionally gifted (she literally did what Rudeus can't at the age of 11)
Bro this video was so introspective and detailed. It reminded me of just how well written the characters of Mushoku are. You should definitely do this for other characters as well🔥.
I'd argue that the best is Nanahoshi, but I do love Norn's arc
That's his favorite as he said, yours is also valid. Another person will say their favorite is Rudeus, Rudjerd, Eris, Orsted, etc etc
I don't know if Nanahoshi is the best character, but she sure is my favourite character.
Norn fanclub really do exist huh...
LMAOO
That fan base has the most branded people of the all time
Mushoko Tensei will always be in my top 10 stories of all time and reason is simple the characters, they help us fight our insecurities and be better person 😊
Haha, get fkd. I was very tempted to watch this video but after reading ur comment, nope hahahahahaha
Norn is great. Her arc (especially ln 11) was amazing.
man i cant express my gratitude for not only loving the series but also giving atention to those underated characters in mushoku tensei please make more (you earned yourself a subscriber)
This is a quality video! I've never noticed Norn's life while reading the novel as I was focused on Rudeus. I've always thought that Norn is such a clumsy, crybaby and average character. But after this video, I realized that she has one of the most relatable life, unlike rudeus who lives an adventurous one.
Back here after s2 ep17, Norn getting out of that shut in state made me tear again
She's a side character just like all of us
YES SHE IS INDEED THE BEST CHARACTER IN MUSHOKU TENSEI!
Party Defense Up +10000% due To Norn T- Pose!
Toddler Norn: Don't Bully My Father!
I will never understand how anyone at any point in reading the story could hate Norn. Some readers just really lack any empathy and can’t imagine how real of a character Norn feels.
Aisha is better than Norn. Honestly why even include norn in the story? Just because a character is flawed doesn't make them good.
Nah , because Mushouku Tensei is a peak . In some way , Norn is really the one "normal" in that home( I don't talk about talent)
@@thuanvuthi7533 being normal does not mean that you can make stupid mistake like she did that's why hated
@@vanarqwq3660she didn't do stupid mistakes, she did human mistakes and most of them she had a right to
I hope some day I can lock myself away watching everything in this video that was pulled from the novels in the anime in one go.
Some might do a Lord of the Rings Marathon, but I will do a Mushoku Tensei Marathon one day.
the reason mushoku tensei is the best is because all the characters feel like actual people and everyone is living their own realistic lives with their own problems. it's not just the main character and the people around him
Norn is the best character here in this novel.
In my observation it seems fairly normal for fans of a series to hate any "normal" or "average" characters whether or not its really for warranted reasons or really just expressions of annoyance that they just exist.
I do like that this character exists to serve as a reminder of Rudeus's first life.
peak
hear me for I have spoken
this is peak
peak
PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
Finally someone talk about Norn. Best little sister in anime in my opinion. No incest, live his brother and act like a little sister.
I shouldn't watch this I think... I just got to the part where She locked herself into her dorm room. Will this spoil the upcomming arc?
Rifujin said his alternate protagonist would be Norn's POV.
this script was just so absolutely beautifully written.
Welcome to Norn's Fan Club.
one part of why i love that story so much and why the LN moved me at some points even to tears. The character deepness and how they develop is just great.
ah yes,the greyrat sister
the one who i despised at first now i love (norn)
and the one i really love at first now i despise (aisha)
Did you read the redundancy chapters before the author removed some very controversial parts of it? If so, I understand where you're coming from.
I was confused and disappointed at her too.
@@jannathanielausan4671 yea
i dont hate their relationship
i just hate the way it started, highest level of pedo
Aisha was horrible the moment she first attempted to seduce Rudeus.
yet people hate her becouse she is annoying and spoiled
people just get used to super human character that they forget weakness in character make it alive and Norn actually have a reason why she is having inferiority complex
Norn is another character with overblown melodrama like Mizore from Hibike Euphonium.
The fact that Norn actually improved in the end just proves Aisha correct that Norn never tried.
She could've improved far sooner if she let Aisha help her initially, then Rudy afterwards.
Not a clickbait video subscribed my guy keep up the great work
You can really focus on each character of Mushoku tensei and find an awesome story either with their time with Rudeus or their personal story.
Damn, i thought it was pursuit of wonder 🤣
Although I disagree on her being the story's greatest character, I can at least whole heartedly agree on all of your notes otherwise.
I can't wait to see her animated and voiced, as well as Rudy finally getting the chance to be a big brother. Norn would be an excellent MC for a Mushoku Tensei slice of life spin-off, I really think that could work.
We got that in Vol 8-11.
Great analysis and love the vid. Keep doin what you doin.
My fav character is still Paul. Can't wait for the scene of Rudeus saving norn from isolating herself :]
I used to hate her in the beginning but she later grew on me a lot. Now she's my favourite in MT
Great video mate
Man, my respect level for the author is just increasing exponentially at this point...I can't believe the incredible depth of the characters-it clearly speaks to the level of talent of the crafter, and it's something I've noticed lacking in much of or even most of modern mainstream fiction. I'm awestruck that Norn is in the same tale just with rudeus alone and he's far from the only example
Ah yes, the greatly written Charisma Build character, Norn. This is what makes this series great, every character feels alive, every character has a great life and is equally if not better than our protagonist.
The flyff ost ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Your vid popped off Ari :3 congrats
Insant like. I'm no where near the end of the LN, but Norn is one of my favorites and I can already tell she's only going to get better
her descendant would be someone who will help kill hitogami
Norn is the typical middle child
I still hate Norn. I totally agree with you, but I still can't love or even like her. She reminds me too much of, well, myself.
THE FLYFF SOUNDTRACK AHHHHH
i really thought this channel have a lot of subs to my surprise its still 800 subs. the editing the summary is all top notch! great work my guy.
Very well put together. With this analysis I feel like I relate myself way more to Norn than anyone else in the show. Well done!
this flyff soundtrack suits perfectly
Being normal is a breath of fresh air.
the scripts used in this video is so good
She's just normal, and that makes her special
wait are you using flyff ost?
I'm glad people see the greatness of norn. Not the best character, but she is up there.
Great video! I don't usually sit through video essays like this the whole way through, but you constantly had me engaged the whole time and really reminded me why I love Mushoku Tensei's character writing so much.
Great video. Idk about best haha but Norn’s development is awesome
we can't be many episodes away from the shut-in scene right?
So she's the Yamcha of her universe! By no means weak but simply outclassed by her circle of friends/relatives.
Is that what I think it is? Is that flyff music playing in the background?! Woah!
I can only say for a handful of anime/LN that I've enjoyed practically every character like I can for mushoku tensei.
I'm with you all the way. It's great how the author managed to captivate our interests with such incredibly flawed characters. But I guess it's because they were all incredibly flawed that we were able to relate with them in the first place.
No wonder she became wife of the strongest supard alive
I resonates with norn... "too hard on yourself and cant see your own worth"
Paul dies?? Rudy loses his arm? I've watched to much of this video
I feel like i am missing parts. isnt ch.91 the newest manga chapter ? Or are we talking about the NL aswell here ? It would be nice if someone could answer. thy
You'll understand at chapter 92.
Thanks for the video
Alright...okay. I feel better now. Having just watched the anime episode where Norn and Aisha move in with Rudeus, I was feeling annoyed by Norn, which lessens my enjoyment of watching anime. This vid popped up in my recs, and since I'm completely unbothered by spoilers, I figured I'd give it a watched. Now I can wait for the next ep with a lighter heart. Thanks.👍
Me enjoying the video: (○ω○)
Me when part 3: o.o!
