To me that would say that Elune is too powerful for Xal'itath to steal her power. I like this.
I have a theory about Xa'latath origin, tho it might be far fetched. But her outfit has a lot of ethereal vibe, similar to of Locus Walker (especially with her bandage/wrapping around her feet and hands and also the pointy shoulders). What if she is an Ethereal who caused the doom of Karesh, who brought the Dimensius to their world and now she is the harbinger of the void (sort of a Silver Surfer for Dimensius). Would also be a good reason to visit Karesh in the future...
@@Zrikkenz he does seem to know her. What if she was an Azshara figure? Their queen? I think she's significantly more powerful/older than that, but SHE COULD be something like Ethereal royalty. Were they "the ones who came before the Draenei"? Did they serve a naaru who fell and thereby "arrived" on the planet? Or did they sap it until it fell? Did the creature possess her or otherwise become one with her? Fun theory to kick around, anyway

It's so strange that you say this because I was thinking the same. I noticed the bandages in one of the cutscenes and was like, "Hmm, she has similar wrappings to the Ethereals. Maybe she was a chosen survivor from their world? I have a theory that when Dimensius consumes planets as he did the etherals, i dont believe he destroys them. Sort of like Dormamu from Doctor Strange. Instead he brings them into his dark reality and uses them for power. So i find it really cool that you bring this up because i was thinking a long similar lines.

We have been dealing with alternate realities/dimensions for quite some time now, like alternate Draenor.
Now imagine how cool would it be if Xalatath were what becomes of Alleria once she fully embraces the void and we are on the path of doing everything in our power to prevent that (we just do not know it yet). Void sees infinite possibilities and timelines and it is not hard to imagine that it pulled Alleria from one specific in which she turned into a full blown void servant in the form of Xalatath, who has now set her eyes on our timeline which really is the only one important... I imagine that Sylvanas would play a big part in preventing Alleria becoming Xalatath but it all remains to be seen.
Also, in hindsight, it would explain the deep connection which Alleria shares with Xalatath and as to why Xalatath is knowledgeable of all the things she should not be.
We know the the pantheons were created by the first ones. It is very possible they created the void lords to manage the void realms and likely created whoever runs the light realm.
Heck dude, I think you're absolutely spot on regarding the origins of the Old Gods being lords of decay. Great summary!
Imagine Elune being a Void Lord (or something equally as powerful as Xal'atath at least) who, as you already mentioned, defected. Since Xal knows her even though she was imprisoned for so long, that means Xal knew (about) Elune before already. What if both of them defected from the Void TOGETHER and were then forced to go separate ways, as they were overpowered by other entities? One converted by Titan influence and placed into a moon / the other placed into a weapon. Both forcefully separated. Also: somehow 5 of the cosmic forces are mixed up within the Reality-cycle, while only 1 force (the Light) purely buffs a few people, sends a few Naaru to semi-important places, but do not show themselves directly... but none of the cosmic forces are actually TOTALLY excluded. Looks like a rather diverse council they have all over the dream-reality-shadowlands bubble, wherever we look. If "Lord" (as in "Void Lord") is considered too powerful to possibly be Elune, then let's just use the placeholder "Kitty" instead: a Void Kitty as Azeroth's moon, a "Fel Kitty" as Revendreth's leader, a "Death Kitty" as Maldraxxus' leader and creator of powerful artifacts (why is that even a skill only he possesses? Where did he get it? Why can no one else do that?) ... Death Kitty got insight into the inner workings of the Void, possibly by another Void Kitty. The Void Kitty Elune also seems to be very much drawn to Life and their kitties. Only the Light (and their kitties) seems to hold back on cooperation with others. They buff a few people, but don't show themselves. I don't consider the Naaru as "Light Lords", just like the Old Gods are not Void Lords. But why don't the "Light Lords" show themselves? Do they have the same problems as the void, as they would maybe do the exact opposite to the universe when they entered? Maybe they would cook all creation over time. I didn't even see any Naaru (or other Light Kitties) in any pantheon so far. Just lower representatives like the Light Dreadlord, who is definitely not a Light Kitty the way Elune/Xal would be Void Kitties. Sorry for all those chaotic thoughts... just needed to write them down. Have a wonderful day. :)

@@gladjohnson3117 Didn't the Void also refer to certain other cosmic entities as their lost brothers and sisters? I'd say, the reason might be similar - whatever it actually is. Maybe it's just their way of saying "bro", bro. :D Unexpected spoiler: you are not my direct brother in a genetic sense, Sir. Sorry. But if all of the cosmic entities have actually been created in a Zereth realm (which might imply that the whole of "Reality" could also count as a Zereth realm), then the entities created this way might have more in common than you and me, making them relatives in some way, even though they might not actually have any genes. Also, the pantheon within the Shadowlands seem to consist of representatives from multiple cosmic forces, all being created within one single Zereth machine?! Denathrius = Demon -> Fel // Kyrestia = extremely orderly -> Order // Primus = plays with (un)dead things -> Death // now which cosmic force might the Winter Queen represent? From the remaining ones (Light, Life, Void), I'd say a mix of Life and Void, as her realm Ardenweald isn't purely lush green, but rather moon-like / void-like in my opinion... also, both forces seem to behave in comparable ways when not controlled: both form tentacles and grow far beyond what one might consider good. Maybe they're much closer than we think, making entities of Life and Void actually brothers and sisters as well. Such a mix might also be compatible with something we read in The War Within: that a mix of two forces/elements is generally more stable than each single one. Maybe Denathrius/Kyrestia/Primus are a mix of two elements as well. Kyrestias realm is very bright, so maybe she's a mix of Order+Light or Order+Fire.

I think Aleria called Xal`atath a "survivor from ancient times". This could mean she was someone or something and in oder to survive some catastrophic events she made a deal with the Void and embraced it, becoming the Harbinger. Just like Silver Surfer and Galactus.

I like how Xal has a very cynical opinion of the Old Gods. It shows that the Void is not a monolithic force.

Nazmir is nothing but death and decay. The bosses of the Underrot constantly saying "decay" while worshipping an old god and trying to bring him back.

Another little tidbit that supports the old gods being lords of decay is how opposite cosmic forces always seek to overcome each other. For example, Sargeras is originally an arcane titan but succumbs to fel. Void always tries to corrupt light like the Naaru. And the old gods always try to corrupt beings of life (maybe sprit more specifically?). The emerald dream, Cenarius, Ysera.
I think Xal'atath is one of two things:
1. The moon has phases and the "new moon" phase is when it is completely dark. Xal is that portion of Elune that Elune tried to shed from herself to embrace the light, the void callled to that dark side and in an attempt to resist, Elune split herself, creating Xal'atath. (making her kind of the Granddaughter of Azeroth)
2. Elune attempt to usurp her mother and embraced the void to do so. (just like the ansurek and neferess cinematic) Elune brought Xal'atah to Azeroth and became an "upstart goddess" to overthrow Azeroth who was ultimately forced in to slumber during that fight.
Ah, yes, another comment/theory that is Elune. It seems that everyone is Elune except Elune herself. Oh, well...
@@lunar_priest9674 Nothing I said implies Elune isn't Elune. Point one says Xal may be a small portion of Elune, or created from her. Point two speculates on something Elune may have done.
I always had one theory that xal is blue child corrupted by the void and void used her anger of elune against her. Perhaps azeroth wasnt always in a prison and when she was inprisoned elune did nothing or was afraid to do anything and blue child was simply upset on her and void used that feeling to hurt elune.

Death => Decay sits between Fel (Chaos) and Void (Shadow) and we see both forces of shadow and fel wield death related magic.
She obviously mastered time dilation traveling through time. No telling how old she is.
Inb4 Xal'atath is the corrupted part of Azeroths soul, just that the void didn't need her back during the Black Empire era and saw her as someone needed in the future so she was put away in the dagger.
Edit: For the record, no I don't really think this but it's fun to throw out speculations no matter how out there they are.
Xal'atath - is the soul of the titan that Sargeras killed (by cutting it (the planet) in two). Do you remember the story of how Sargeras first met the void that settled on titan, and he killed the titan, cutting the planet. And after - hello Nerzul version 0.00 (by Primus (not Zovaal)). And now Xal'atath will try to “regain what should rightfully be hers” - life in the guise of a titan (somehow).
Maybe two types of void:
The Hungering Void: Consuming, digesting, decaying, opposite of spirit/life
The Cosmic Void: Darkness incarnate, true essence of shadow. Light may illuminate the dark but light requires something to give off that light, but the darkness is always there, the nothingness before light, always on the periphery waiting for the light to fade.
It could be fair to say that, if we take the idea of the "first ones" seriously, elune like the winter queen r children of the first ones making them sisters, which of course would also imply that titans may also be siblings as well. Interesting thought...
I feel like Elune is much much older than any of the Pantheons. But again this could be wrong since she called "an upstart Godess". But maybe that just means she started to involve herself like a god instead of being quiet and just observing.

I am not sure if the short Warcraft story videos are canon but for my Shadow priest, Knaifu had said that the blade isn't empty, so who or what is inside it ? Nzoth ?
I expect her to be the Void Goddess (Darkened Naaru who turned too deep into the void). She behaives like one. Naaru are known to nurture mortlas to inevitably turn them into the army. Xal does the same think. She lures mortals onto her own design, such as she did with ascended nerubians and wanted to do with the earthen (skardyn). She nurtures her own army made from mortals. Nerubian ascendance in essence is the same thing as the Lightforging, but done with the void. Her naaru origins could be explained by the Traveler lore, where Naaru at some point were involved for protection of Azeroth. She might be one of the fallen Naaru who tried to protect Azeroth from the old gods or even more be betrayed by her own naaru kin in.such battle with the black empire. That shift could have changed her motivation and perspective on the cosmic warfare. So now she wants to turn mortals of Azeroth into the voidbound creaturens or even to be the one who would give azeroth to Dimensius and other void lords.
Other note, I think the orbes around her are not the moons, but the black holes and thus the eyes of Dimensius.

Or the old gods tried to sabotage the void lords coming by locking up the harbinger in the blade. Maybe the old gods decided they wanted Azeroth for themselves but then the Titans came and messed it up for them so they granted xalataths request to be free
The Guardian was a revenant that tried to stop arthas from taking the blade and forging it with his soul. We now have a octupus next to the big crystal flying in the sky. named The Guardian.. and magni just fused his soul or gave up what was protecting him from voices this whole time .

I doubt Xalatath will be on our side at all. She clearly doesn’t have good intentions for Azeroth just like all of the other forces. It seems like it’s all of the cosmic forces trying to take Azeroth for themselves and we’re trying to keep her natural

C'thun wasn't in a prison the titans just thought they had killed him. As for Yogg he was locked into a prison guarded by the keepers. N'zoth was always listed as the weakest of the old gods in their prime. He was likely the smartest of them but in terms of raw power and the armies he controlled he was the weakest.
What I personally believe Xal'atath to be is a direct spawn of Dimensius, and I only really say this because she is the only one that not only seems to be a true, cosmic Void entity, but was gifted a staff by Dimensius supposedly during the times of the Black Empire. It's also worth stating that the oldest historical record on Azeroth is Mosh'Ogg, some kind of ceremony of Old God origin, that relates to a strange box of organic matter, if I remember correctly. A piece of the Old Gods themselves. This is approx. 150,000 years ago, according to the timeline alone. So how old is Xal'atath and that staff she was gifted by Dimensius? It is safe to say that at the very least the Old Gods and likely the Elemental Lords pre-date even that, as the Black Empire cannot have spawned out of nowhere. It was build by the enslaved races. Maybe enslaved is not the right word, but the Aqir were simply to be ordered around by the N'raqi, who acted as taskmasters.

Did anyone notice that the druids boomkin form has a lot more punch in the moon magic. As in their spells are more violent. Laser beams from the sky blasting living creatures to dust. Moons dropping smaller moons more crushing power. Violent angry power.
An yet the moon spells are Arcane, not Void.
Arcane is associated with the Titans, not the Void.
I always did wonder if they were going to or alluding to there being more than just Light & Shadow. In some settings, instead they separate shadow so there is Light, Shadow and Dark, and specifically in that constellation such that shadow is part of both extremes. In such a dynamic, Elune could well be the Shadow to the dark of the Void and the light of the, well Light. Moons cast shadows, and they also reflect light; you could even say they have a dark side if you want to be a little cute. In this way, I think it makes sense that Xal'atath would see her as an upstart, a product of the two primordial sides.
I think the hardest thing about Elune to figure is her actual purpose or agenda, how sentient she is about it. I think something that is possible is that she is a spawn of Azeroth, because Azeroth is a case where we can be relatively sure that different forces and agendas at least could have combined to synergize, given the old god infestation, the elemental lords, the Titan influence etc. If the above is aligned with the truth, it could mean that Azeroth was or is like an amalgamation that does expose this new path of unity that could exist, if she is allowed to flourish. Elune is like an early imperfect example.
Maybe that is the intent of Xal'atath actually. To further add the void to Azeroth's crucible, rather than to consume it like presumably somebody like Dimensius would. The blood of Azeroth does look like it lacks it... though this is a highly visual and half-serious one. :p

What you said about the Old Gods accepting the void, it made me think. How did we learn about the spirit consumption? What if in reality, the players are the representatives of spirit...or pretty much every faction/race? It seems to me that every intelligent being on Azeroth has spirit...Then again it would explain the Old Gods (if they are of decay) accepting the void as they would be next in line for consumption to balance things out, but the void managed to "hide" them from Azeroth.
As for Xal'atath and Elune connection, it is just an idea now, but what if Xal'atath was the first attempt at creating the night warrior? Maybe the current version slowly killing the user is specifically because Xal'atath, because she gained the power and ran with it? It would explain her low thinking of Elune as upstart goddess, because she got tricked so easily and the moon asthetic, but still being of the void, or just its harbringer/chosen one? Her being sealed in the weapon then could tie in the Primus or the Jailer as Elune was angry and wanted to seal Xal'atath for this trickery.
She might be on our side, but we are not on her side. She is evil that i am sure off, the last cinematic showed that, making a daughter kill her mother is in no way acceptable or "good" . She might have good intensions but how she goes about it is evil.

The diffrent between Void and "Order" Domination is that the Void make you want to do it because its mutch safer to controll people to let them willing to it rather force to do it
its something Valkorian in SWOTOR learn that Domination allways goes bad and the person make it mutch worse for you.
I have 2 theories that I think will be of internet to you.
First, I think that the wow universe is not mate of 6 cosmic forces but of 3 sets of bonded pairs (think ionic bonding from science) with a negative and positive polarity. I think flip side of the same coin is a bad analogy because both sides of a coin are the same thing; but think of it like a black hole and white hole from science or a worm hole or ever a figure 8 or infinity symbol with each side being distinct and separate but inextricably linked. This allows entities to move from one to the other. This give you life and death, order and disorder, and light and void. Entities are able to move between the two that are linked. So sargarus became a “titan” of disorder. The connection between the shadowlands and life. And the changing of Naaru or the void crystal. Changes always happen along these bonded pair lines.
Second. This is what we will see over this expansion. The blood of the old gods is void incarnate having mixed with life and decay giving it the solidity needed to exist in the universe. Xalatath as the harbinger is trying to bring void into the physical world. We will go to nerubia to try and stop her and will learn about the blood and it’s power but will be too late to stop her. But we will stop her from getting more from that location. What we won’t know is that the goblins have been working with her and harvesting sarintie and other forms of old god blood - they have mastered this as they have mastered azerite retrieval. We will go to the goblin city to stop them but again we will be too late.
This is when BAM. We find out that Azeroth isn’t even her short term plan, that she was gathering this blood the change the tides of the void battle on k’aresh. We will go there to stop her and side with the elementals, but it will be to late and the battle between arcane order and void shadow will be lost… and k’aresh world souls will be born a void “Titan” which will open the gates for the void at Azeroth. I think the last boss of the ethereal raid will be k’aresh and we will loose and get ported out of there as the world soul is born and made manifest. Midnight will be us fighting this void Titan and the void incursion losing until the titans show up.
Last, I think that the shadowlands line where they are talking about the banished one, which at the time seemed like the jailer was actually talking about either xal or her void lord. This is what the jailer was trying to stop.
What if Xal'atath is the last titan?
Would love to debate you about Xal'atath and theories on your stream? I agree with some of your points and not others. AGREE: Do think Old gods are not just void. E.g. Yogg Saron referred to as the God of Death etc. From a design point of view this is fundamentally at odds with what they did, e.g. Old gods fought for territory, 5th old god suspected killed by the others. 5th old god could have been backed by the Xal'atath and the Old Gods put Xal'atath in the blade and not the titans, would explain whispers akin to 'I will get revenge for what they did to me' and the style is not similar to Titan design at all (more domination style). This would also explain why the Titans only refer to four old gods and not five (or they deny as they didn't imprison a fifth - but if this was the case Kazh Algar would likely be more corrupted!). Sargeras stabbed the planet to illuminate the issue, since the dagger end appears to be part of the great cycle (light vs void) to slow the voids plan/bring attention to the issue!
The question is: WHY IS XALATATH
18:17 Because the symbol of the moon doesn't belong to Elune only. The moon can signify many things and that's ok. I believe that Elune uses it for the same reason why deities of life and nature from our world use it. Xal'atath uses it cuz she's of the void which is the opposite of light(sun). Thematically the moon can be either a sibling of the sun or its enemy. Btw why aren't you talking about black holes? She has two black holes levitating around her and black holes in her eyes. A black hole can very easily look like a moon eclipsing a sun.

How is Decay the opposite of Spirit? It has always bothered me.
@@swampdonk3y712 cosmology map. Spirit deeply connected to life, spirit is also connected to Anima, both leads to life, decay is deeply connected to death, death is the opposite of life. Spirit is also placed on the exact opposite side of decay on the map. So, since we only have the Titans account of the universe it's the conclusion we draw.
I think she expresses feeling pride in some of the actions of the old gods because she was part of their creation. I think calling the nauru their brethren is no mistake. I think the many suggested equations of Elune to a naaru is no mistake. I think the thematics of void lords and "fallen" naaru going hand in hand is no Mistake. I think Xal'atath could be called many things- and perhaps is ALL those things. A void lord, a fallen Naaru, a First One (whatever they were), a god of the reality before, a "parent" or "sibling" of the "generation" of beings that created the likes of X'era. I think perhaps Elune and the rest of her "generation" somehow stole godhood from Xal'atath's generation, and that "godhood" is merely the means to remake the universe. I think she is a diety of one or two "ages of the universe" ago, that the keys of power that Zovaal was pursuing have changed hands many times and birthed (or "forged") new realities, like the Turning of the Wheel of Time.
"Do the naaru speak of the eternal conflict? That the entire history of your world is but a fraction of the time that has passed? Of those that came before the draenei? No? ". We consider Azeroth to be very old, the "First" of the world souls, perhaps. What "whole" is SHE a mere FRACTION of? I think this is a being that not only knows the answer, but lived as a central figure of it.

I think Xal'atath is simply an old gold. She mentions that she's the weakest one of all of us when speaking about the other old gods. he also talks about how it's ironic that she, the weakest of all of them will be the only one who fulfills her mission. The old god's original mission was to corrupt Azeroth into a Dark Titan that would consume the entire universe, because the void lords themselves are not able to exit the void into our universe to destroy it themselves.
It's known that the old gods feuded amongst themselves. The old gods grew minds of their own and wanted to do what they wanted rather than fulfill their purpose. I think Xal'atath, despite being the weakest old god, had a connection to communicate with the void lords in a way that the other old gods did not. The Void Lords likely found a way to get into our universe and communicated this with Xal'atath. Because the other old gods were more focused on corrupting Azeroth or simply doing whatever they wanted, rather than ushering the void lords. Their priorities no longer aligned. They likely feuded which lead to her imprisonment. Imprisoned by her own kin, hence why another old god was able to free her from her prison. He's likely who imprisoned her in the first place.
She'll end up fulfilling her purpose of ushering in the void lords into our universe, which is what the next Xpac (Midnight) will be.

What if Elune and Xalatath are the same entity. A prime naaru (or sth like that) that lives both of their phases at the same time. Also Tyrande's Night Warrior weapons are very similar to Xalatath's blade.

I think this is a simple answer. The World Soul is a void god or something. That’s why Sargareas stabs Azeroth. It’s why he invaded. The old gods weren’t trying to corrupt Azeroth, they were defending the soul from sarageras. It all kind of makes sense looking at, as Azeroth being a void being.

You made a video about Xal'atath and in the title of this video is "Who is Xal'atath?" I personally don't care who she is as she's no Sylvanas. You have no idea how much I want to see Sylvanas return during the Saga in her armor before Shadowlands and red eyes as the Banshee Queen to battle Xal'atath. That would be one epic fight Blizzard be dumb to pass up on but save it for "The Last Titan" because there can only be one true female villian in the warcraft lore!
