Part 2 - Installing the hood scoop Ram Air Kit - th-cam.com/video/_wOLdK-d1jI/w-d-xo.html I found a much cheaper, but excellent aftermarket option that worked perfect, check out the video for more details!
Headers would be pretty sweet, I haven't made up my mind yet if I want to start adding a bunch of performance mods or not. I've got a project race mustang that I'm working on and that's where most of the money goes lol. I need to get back and add the ram air portion to the hood and that would remove the cover completely, need to move that up the list!
@@RaymondLamb The reason why headers are so important is that Chrysler put cast iron manifolds on aluminum heads and the rates of change from heat/thaw are different and that is why bolts are so common to snap on these trucks. I read that if you put stainless steel headers and/or ones that are powder coated, that the chances of snapping bolts are much less and more consistent on the heat/thaw compatibilities. I plan on buying shorty stainless steel headers that fit up to the stock exhausts. They can be pricey, but I have seen them in the 500 dollar range. This is a very common problem with these trucks from what I have been reading and there are lots of videos showing how to remove the manifolds and extract snapped bolts from the heads. Just trying to help!
I thought so too. Haven't noticed much of an improvement in MPG, but I don't really worry about that anyway. I took the best runs from multiple tries, so I felt like the outcome was somewhat accurate, all things considered.
Nice install video, I did the KN filter first 70 bucks ok but yesterday got lucky friend decided to sell me his mopar set up for his 2019 v6 ram just missing a tube got it for 100$ thing is I'm changing to the 6.4 intake so I got the legmaker kit and going to that right now my 2wheel Drive 4dr Ram is running 13.62 at 98mph with sw stainless headers and Diablo 91 tune and stock airbox with KN filter with this Box and 6.4 intake and Jay Greene tune I'm gonna Fly down the Track thanks for the Video it helped my install 😀👍
You’re lucky your crank case vent hose fit. I had to cut about 2” off the end of the plastic part of the hose and then put that same short hose back on with a hose clamp on the one side. The other side connects to the air filter. Just took it for a test drive and I notice a nice throaty sound. I haven’t put the headers or Cat Back on yet, so maybe having a quieter stock exhaust is why It’s more noticeable. JBA titanium ceramic coated headers and a Corsa Muffler are going on in 3 weeks.
Are you doing the header install yourself, if so let me know how it goes? I've always thought about adding them as well. I've got some Borla exhaust videos if you're interested. Corsa sounds good too though!
@@RaymondLamb I was all set to install the headers myself but the JBA Competition Headers have to be welded on at the CAT. The Install got pushed back to May 13th which is cool because I just put a leveling kit, 305/55r20 Nitto 420 tires, and installed OEM Fender Flares this weekend. The flares were already painted black and you have to really look close to see the difference compared to my metallic flake black OEM paint. It looks mean AF right now, but not tacky like you got drunk in isle 2 at autozone. The black 20” fuel rims have about a 1” offset which looks perfect with those flares. Fills it out beautifully. I bought a Mopar Sport hood like seen on the Ram Sport and Rebel. It’s being painted now. Then on the 13th that will go on and the headers, and I’m thinking maybe just a magnaflow muffler which is more tame when cruising for now. Then later on I might get the Corsa Cat Back after I get the Diabosport T2 and PCM swap. After that I want to get the upgraded Uconnect with the NAVigation it costs around $1200’and comes with the Bezel. All the Rams come with the same wiring harness for every upgrade. I’m loving this truck. I’m trying not to make it look too after market. The flares and hood are on upgraded models.
For about $300 and a five minute install you could buy a throttle modifier such as Pedal Commander or Pedal Monster and cut your 0-60 times significantly. Your off the line time is what’s killing you.
I found this one on Amazon at the link below. It's part #68256672AA, if you search that, you may be able to locate one, it claims it fits this CAI setup. Hope that helps, thanks for watching. www.amazon.com/Mopar-68256672AA-5-7L-6-4L-Filter/dp/B075LTCL5H
No not yet, I still need to purchase that and see how it does, been working on the Mustang a lot lately and need to get back to projects on the RAM too.
Do you have wider tires on your truck for traction? Where my truck is at right now with stock street tires I wouldn’t be able to do a accurate 0-60 because my truck likes to roast the tires at a dead stop.
No, I still have the stock size. It took many takes to get these few runs without spinning. These were just the best overall runs and I edited all of the others out. Once the tires got some heat in them they did a little better, but they are worn now. I think next set I'm going with a custom wheel and tire setup, something wider and better looking!
Overall I still think it's a good mod, but I still need to add the Ram Air part for the hood to complete it. With that the total price is around $700+ so it's a little pricey to get better air flow.
You are correct, there is a setting in the uconnect system to turn on and off, just the light on the dash though. You can actually "disable" it using the manual gear select button on the steering wheel if your truck has that, but gets annoying constantly changing gears by a button.
Hey, I went and double checked it for you. There is already a cutout for the vent hose, and mine is just barely touching the engine cover. I looked for any signs of rubbing or wear and there are none on mine. Might depend on the circumstances or how well it goes together in each case, but in mine it looks to be good. Hope that helps.
Hey Roland! Honestly, I haven't noticed much of a difference. I know my performance meter claims the truck is faster 0-60, but I don't tend to drive around with the peddle to the floor all the time!!! My MPG still stays around the same 18-22 depending on the driving I'm doing, so haven't noticed an increase there either. It might be better if I finally got around to installing the fresh air scoop in the hood to feed it some outside air, but I haven't gotten there yet, I've been so busy with the Mustang. I do think it helped, definitely didn't hurt, but for day to day, don't notice much of a change. Hope your install went smooth! Think about subscribing if you want to check out some of my other content! Thanks.
Great video! One question though did you have to get the truck tuned after the install? I've seen on forums some people say to get it some say doesn't need it. Thanks in advance
I personally did not get a tune and it runs just fine, no issues. I 100% believe if you did tune it, that would make a huge difference. I installed a CAI and tune on the Mustang and it was like a different car. So completely up to you if you want to go that route.
Hey Raymond, I just ordered the CAI portion like you just installed in this video. Thanks for the step by step. I’ve installed several CAI on several different vehicles. It’s always nice to see it done first though. Lol. Did you ever get around to doing the scoop portion? They tried to get me to purchase that but I wanted to research it first. Thanks again for the video and I will be subscribing.
Hey, good luck with the install! I still haven't gotten the scoop, but it's on the to-do list. I don't think it'll be too difficult to install. Thanks again!
Hey, thanks for the comment. That would just let hot engine air in and raise the IAT and that would cause the computer to pull timing and decrease performance. Once I get the fresh air kit installed, I will remove the mopar cover and it will feed fresh outside air through the hood to the filter, but it'll still be sealed to the engine bay when the hoods closed. Thanks!
Hey Larry, I shopped all over to try to find the best price, but they were all relatively close. I ended up getting it from www.MoparOnlineParts.com Everything went smooth and got here fast. Hope that helps, consider subscribing if you liked the video. Have a great day.
This is where I found it for the best price at the time. You can Google the part number and you may be able to save some, but might end up paying more for shipping, or waiting longer. But ultimately this is the place I purchased from: moparonlineparts.com/1500-cold-intake-p-4171.html Consider subscribing if you feel like it! Thanks, hope that helped.
No, not at all! I've been meaning to get it added. I've been so busy and bought a new car that I need to get back to add this part. I still want to install it and see if it helps.
Hey, it's the AIM Solo DL lap timer. I bought it to record data in the viper at the track, but it works just as well in the truck or any vehicle with an ODBII port, which is most everything now! Works great for recording all sorts of data. Here's a link; www.aim-sportline.com/en/out-of-production/solo/index.htm
You could have saved yourself $400 by simply installing a K&N air filter. Unless you get the hood with the functional hood scoop to go with this, you're wasting your money.
I've actually seen some decent gains from just this part of the install, but the plan has always been to add the hood scoop as well. I used just the drop-in K&N filter on the Viper (but it already had the Ram Air setup), but didn't want to go that route with this. Haven't noticed ANY increase in MPG, but I don't care about that part and wasn't a goal for this. I'll put it this way, I've wasted far more money on far worse parts!!
Maybe so, but not on my truck. I definitely saw an improvement and the lap timer backed it up. There is almost always room for improvement over factory, most of that is designed for MPG, not performance.
@@teebo5298 me? Of course, but what comes from the factory is more of a one size fits all deal instead of geared toward performance gains. Both made by Mopar, just used for different reasons!
