  • Even among those who hold to the basic truths of the Christian gospel, there is a tendency to remain content with milk and never strive to dig into the meat of the Word. Doctrinal shallowness is endemic and accepted. In this message, Dr. Sinclair Ferguson encourages us all to wrestle with the deep things of God and to stretch ourselves by reading some of the great theologians of the past.
This message is from our 2012 National Conference, The Christian Mind: • The Christian Mind: 20...

Clear, susinct,no frills preaching-like a breath of fresh air. May our heavenly Father continue to speak through the mouth of such preachers as Sinclair. Amen \♡/

I'm taking classes on Ligonier Connect. Sinclair Ferguson is a great expository teacher and preacher. Ligonier is the most solid and sound Bible based organization currently in existence. RC Sproul left quite a legacy. Sproul had NO qualms in selecting men that rivaled his own prowess in the pulpit. I am so grateful to Ligonier Ministries for their dedicated and sound teaching and preaching. RC Sproul made sure that Ligonier would have no gap or lack in sound teaching and preaching without him on this earth, and the best expository preachers and teachers would continue ministering. I enjoy the continuous run of RC Sproul lectures for free but Ligonier Connect is well worth subscribing to with the lineup of classes and great teachers, including RC Sproul.

Thanks for the encouragement of your own experiences and of your wife. And for spurring us on to godliness for love of Him.

How can a godly man like this be on the same platform as j c sprout JUNIOR.

Perhaps he did not know all the problems with RC Junior, or took the position that it was Ligonier’s responsibility to sort out the mess and it was his responsibility instead to bring solid and realistic Bible teaching to the church. In fact what he has said is a challenge and a corrective to us all.

John 17:3: "This is eternal life, that you know the only true and living God and Jesus Christ whom he has sent". What is eternal life? It is KNOWING the only true and living God and Jesus Christ whom he has sent. Too many professing Christians don't really know the true and living God and Jesus. This means KNOW!! It is difficult to know God from a 30 minute sermon once a week and not much else. That is at best "religion" that is not very profitable.

@Eyezayah I think I see what you mean, Joseph's comment might be a bit misleading. It's not the quantity of time we give ourselves to hearing or reading God's word, but truly receiving the word by faith that we need.
"Knowing" must be personal, and it's qualitative.. either we know or we do not know someone, right? But also "knowing" is clearly also quantitative. We grow in our knowledge of God. I'm assuming what Joseph means is that many professing Christians either do not know God at all, never having entered into fellowship with Him through union with Christ; or that many genuine Christians barely know God, though they do know Him, because they spend too little time seeking more of Him.

@Eyezayah It's normal from time to time to experience fears and doubts, espeically in seasons when God seems far from us. These are by far the hardest times for me. But we can rest in the Lord knowing that He is faithful, that if we are trusting in Him we have nothing to fear. Because Christ is to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption. So let's press on as followers of the Lord Jesus to lay hold of the eternal life to which we were called.
Hosea 6:3 says "let us press on to know the LORD; His going out is sure as the dawn; He will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.”

what is he talking about? as funny as it may seem at the Ligonier I only enjoy watching Elisabeth Elliot. He is asked to address a very contemporary issue of Christians losing their faith by the millions and I am not sure what he is talking about. People who are deconstructing are actually theologians my friend. This is pathetic

      Bakon..
      I don't think it's pathetic..
I take the point from the title could become misleading..
But I believe he is speaking about those who do not care as believers and drift along without examining and pursuing the scriptures and indeed loving God with the mind and heart
