As a newly minted trivium fan, I just found this song through a interview they did. Holy shit. A masterpiece in my humble opinion.
This one always stood out to me, very polished. Sounds like Metallica tried to make Norwegian black metal haha its awesome

Very Cliff Burton-ish. Mainly because of the use of the distortion pedal
Paulo is overlooked + a wicked finger style which is not an easy thing to do with metal music. Fretless bassist Steve DiGiorgio is an insanely talented bassist who is so underrated it makes me sick. I think Steve DiGiorgio would have been a great fit with Metallica but i gotta admit Robert Trujillo sure has held his own in Metallica all these years. It’s to believe that Trujillo has been with Metallica now for a little over 20yrs 😳
One particular legend is the koi fish’s claim to fame. An ancient tale tells of a huge school of golden koi swimming upstream the Yellow River in China. Gaining strength by fighting against the current, the school glimmered as they swam together through the river. When they reached a waterfall at the end of the river, many of the koi turned back, letting the flow of the river carry them away.
The remaining koi refused to give up. Leaping from the depths of the river, they attempted to reach the top of the waterfall to no avail. Their efforts caught the attention of local demons, who mocked their efforts and heightened the waterfall out of malice. After a hundred years of jumping, one koi finally reached the top of the waterfall. The gods recognized the koi for its perseverance and determination and turned it into a golden dragon, the image of power and strength.

It’s been 15 years and I still have this on repeat 🖤 my love of metal started here.
These guys have definitely evolved. They're not afraid to push new thoughts and techniques out there. I listened to vengeance falls and I became instantly hooked. Congrats guys....you've earned a new fan of your craft.

You know, I've been reading some of the comments on Trivium's videos and I'm a little curious. Why does so many people care about what kind of metal they are or what they're trying to be? Metal is metal and if you like it than it doesn't matter what kind it is.

Chances are if you hate one death metal band you aren't going to like any other ones since they all sound like... death metal, that's the point of genres. Of course, I use hate intentionally, if you don't quite like one DM band you may like another, but that's not the same as hating/disliking them.
If somebody dislikes metalcore music in general then it's safe to infer that they will dislike Trivium. That's why genres matter, they save time.

That's seriously the only reason some people hate them. (Go read some of the comments and see for yourself.) I'm just saying that the genre doesn't matter if you like the sound of the band. Let's say you hate metal core. If for some strange reason, you come across a metal band that adds something unique to their music that you really like. You like it enough that you decide you like the band, but then you learn the band metal core. Does that mean you have to hate it?
First Trivium song I ever heard on the radio. Became instant life long fan & luckily they were touring in Sydney the following week & brought tickets straight away. Found out during the show about the perfection of Ascendancy & they instantly became my favourite band of all time.
Saw them live the night this album was released. Gojira, machine head, trivium and lamb of good headlining. All those groups are still going and better than ever.

Crusade is so underrated, this is a GREAT trivium album, sorry for the guys that stay stucked on ascendancy, because trivium's new material is still sick.

This song reminds me a bit of "Souls of Black" by Testament, but is still very different. I love it!
The riff could have a couple similar chords plus this is a thrash album.
Don't forget too that a lot of bands are friends and get influenced and inspired off each others ideas.

Huge props to Trivium for performing inside an oven. The heat waves blur the image sometimes, but I watched till the end and they survived for sure
I remember when I first bought The Crusade while I was in high school and not knowing who is Trivium and I was hooked. In fact, my die-hard metalhead parents were like "Son, who the hell play this music?" I said "Trivium....." and they started headbang hard and said "they kick ass unlike any bands today on radio included metallica who just made st. anger". They've been headbanging since Dave Mustaine played with Cliff and Metallica.
I still think its insane that Matt doesn't care much for this album. I love it

The only thing that sounds like Metallica in this Trivium album is Matt's voice because he does mimic James. Matt has even said this.

Dear Trivium: I've LOVED this song for years! STILL amazing! But please answer this one question that's been bugging me all this time... Was this song in ANY WAY inspired by Pokémon? I only ask because EVERY TIME I hear the line "Transform a koi into a beast dragon" I can't help but think of when you evolve a magikarp into gyarados... I'm 30 years old now and still can't get that thought out of my head! lol

Ignore that. It's about an ancient Chinese story about a school of Koi who tried swimming up a river and up a waterfall. Demons mocked them and increases the waterfall out of malice until one koi managed to make it up top. So the koi was turned into a golden dragon for its determination
