So i just discovered this band yesterday by reading comments on youtube and im fcking glad i did! This is amazing, ive been a long time fan of Death From Above 79, this makes me think of a punk version of them, need to see this live soon! ( im finally seeing Idles live next month!!!)
Im sure they have the amps and drums mic'd up and going into a mixing table. Also the fact they are running a stack rather than 1 amp is why, usually run in a series of 2 different amps with different features to ge the tone Laurie wants. Its how theyve always had it set up. Think the problem was it was a festival and you dont get long in between artists and hardly any chance of a sound check like they would for their own tour. Hope that makes sense of it all LOL
incredible energy and presence. sonically speaking, they're a little limited, and each song tends to kind of run together. but that doesn't mean it's bad. kind of wish they had a standalone synth or bass but that's purely subjective.

Can spmeone explain why they have mics positioned in front of speakers? Surely they should be connected directly to avoid distortion?
It definitely can cause feedback. It's also not that unusual. There are ways to set it up to avoid that. I'm no sound guy though.
