$18 base cost. Talent & skill -- PRICELESS. I just get dropjaw from your videos. You "see" things in clothes! Everything is absolutely beautiful. And you look GOOD in that bandeau swim top
Catherine, I don’t know which makes me love this so much. Your creativity or your enthusiasm for the results. Either way, you are inspiring and infectious to watch. Thanks for such a fun video.
I fricken love your videos. Love the update to that patterned jacket. You have the coolest sewing machine, that button hole attachment is amazing. And those buttons are so fun.
Oh Catherine, I DID IT! I have been watching your videos for ages building my courage to cut into a boxy outsized T-shirt that nearly reached my knees (I know what was I thinking when I bought it) and turn it into something Iwould actually wear. I cut off the sleeves, took a chunk off the sides, shaped it for my waist and hips AND put in bust darts! Now it's a tunic and it looks great. SO thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm going on holiday tomorrow and I'm going to wear it . 🙂
a good comparison to thrifting swimsuits would be hotel towels - they have been used intimately, then just washed and passed on to you. A decent wash is all anything needs. Great videos, keep it up :)
Love the ideas, love the process, love that you talk us through it, love that you show us what didn’t work. Thank you so much from Canada! 🇨🇦In another video you mentioned that you have more US viewers than Canadian so wanted to let you know the Canadians are here too, if in smaller numbers🇨🇦.
Just love learning from your thrift store clothing transformations, Catherine. Chalk or pin inside out, baste, try on, repeat if necessary, and stitch! Thank you for explaining as you demonstrate. 🪡🧵🫶🏻
I'm so glad to see you tackle the dreaded swimsuit! I've got several I've been hanging onto because I love the fit, but the elastic is shot. Thanks to you I'm gonna give it a go before beach season! Thanks Catherine
You must be a great teacher, you are so patient!! Love the idea of separating the dress into three pieces.... imagine what else could we separate into pieces? Wow!!
If you wanted to keep it just as a swimsuit coverup, the bottom part of the dress would also look cute if you opened up one of the side seams, hemmed the raw edges, gathered it in to your waist circumference and attached a wide ribbon to the top so you could wrap and tie it with a pretty bow. Then you wouldn’t need the little belt. Clearly, what you ended up with was far more versatile, but I was impressed with my own level of creativity for about 10 seconds! 😜
I love how you just went in on the swimsuit…I’d be petrified to try and alter one. The whole thing turned out so pretty on you. Loved that you were able to get three pieces out of one dress. Non stop inspiration from every video . Can’t wait to see what you’ll do with the plaid skirt. H it looks just fine as is with all your pairings.
Love the changes to the jacket & swimsuit, the higher legs are much more flattering on the swimsuit for sure. But the black dress ... Where can you get a dress, skirt & top plus a cover-up for $6? Just brilliant!! 👍🙂 And you look great in the swimsuit and cover up.
You are the best! I love these thrift videos. You give me so much confidence! BTW... my little, 7 year old, grandson was given a soccer uniform in a size 14!...No problem, Mimi can fix it and I did! I was able to take apart the shirt and shorten the sleeves and remake the shirt to fit him exactly. I was so happy to have the tools to do that. Thanks Catherine for all these videos!!
Everything turned out just wonderful, Catherine! Great job on all of these projects! Slowly, but surely, I am getting my sewing projects gathered and organized, so I will be able to start back making things. You are truly an inspiration! ❤ 🧵🧶
You rocked these upcycles!!! Wow, what an learning session this was for me and I'm sure for others as well. I was a little surprised that you were going to alter the swimsuit but it sure looked good when you were done. And you have a cute little figure for the swimsuit but I definitely understand not wanting to model it on TH-cam. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Can't wait to see more upcycles.
WOW!! What a beautiful bargain wardrobe that looks stunning. You have such a talent for seeing things in a different way. Thank you so much for sharing your clothing genius with us. I know you will have a great summer in your new looks. ENJOY!
I did a similar thing with a black dress I found. I used the shirred neckline as the waistline of the skirt so I only had to sew up the sides of the skirt and it was done. Used it as a cover up as well. But the fact you were able to still use that bodice of the dress as a separate top is so cool. You are quite an inspiration!
Very good indeed! I love your creativity and the way you come up with new ideas as you go along! And I admire your perseverance if you’re not happy with the result (like the width of the elastic for example). About cutting up buttonholes - I use a seamripper but I only cut halfway, then I start from the other end and meet up with the first cut. That is the way I was taught from the start a looong time ago and it never fails, how ever stiff and thick the fabric is.
I love what you did with that dress! ❤ You could even wear the swimsuits with the skirt and lining as a casual outfit. That's all you need for your whole holiday. Sweet. 😊
What great buys! Clothes in thrift shops seem more expensive in Australia. Thanks to watching your videos I can now buy things that are not exactly right and alter them. Always so inspiring to watch you. Thank you
I love that jacket! When you put it on it was instantly flattering! So glad you kept the dress top as it also looks perfect on you. You look radiant in all your pieces!
First I was shocked that you cut that beautiful dress but in the end you still have a dress plus more options. That's magic! You could even wear the lining as a skirt or cover-up. 💡
Wow! what value for money. I've just done the currency conversion to UK. I love what you've done with the items. I'm still a watcher when it comes to upcycling clothes to wear. I make Memory Bears so I suppose its a different kind of upcycling. X
❤ Your creativity is astounding!!! I always enjoy your videos. I can't sew yet but I'm so inspired watching you that I may finally get around to setting up my sewing machine and signing up for classes at the local sewing center! ❤
Love Everything! The low leg cut on the swimsuit is a Retro look. They are popular again with "modest" looks. Also, you can get a home dry cleaning kit. I use them all the time. Just look up dry cleaning kit for the dryer (not sure what they will have in Canada). And that was fantastic, taking that dress and making so many outfits. AND you still have the dress! Woo Hoo!! I was just thrifting today and found the most perfect Sharango Shirt Dress, but it was a size 10 and I am a size 4. I wish my skills allowed me to take on such a huge project, but it was too intimidating. I did get a brand new with tags summer dress that is too big, but it's an easy "take in the sides" kind of fix. Again, Everything was great and loved the long format! Big Hugs
I love what you did here, and have a suggestion. If the elastic on the legs was so stretched out, the elastic around the bandeau top might need to be replaced as well. You don't want to find out while you're swimming!
What a delightful surprise Catherine. I do my button holes with a scalpel on a cutting mat. That's if my machine hasn't decided to go rogue the minute i want to make buttonholes! 😠 The dress looked amazing on you.❤
Catherine, the slip/lining can also be used by pulling it up over your bust. If it’s something that has a low neck on it like say a dress, and that She-Ra needs a slip underneath so you could even get more wear out of it smart, really smart some great ideas. Thank you for sharing!!! ❤❤Judy❤❤
The navy and white jacket looks amazing. I haven't had much luck with altering swimsuits so far but if I can thrift some I will try again using my new serger, inspired by your work. The travel wardrobe is brilliant, very versatile pieces apart and lovely as the dress. Love watching your videos!
Hi Catherine! I've been watching and learning a lot from you ..that's what I'm doing too, going shopping at thrift boutique and do some alteration doing some of your tips. .I love what you did on that Lace or crochet blouse on your other video it turned out so nice , you are so creative 😍. Thank you for sharing .. Take care &God bless.
I kinda thought you were nuts to cut that skirt off-the dress was so awesome! But OF COURSE, it all turned out brilliantly. BRAVA! ❤🎉 I’m definitely going to be watching first dresses I can at least turn into little cute blouses. Thanks so much for sharing! Ps I don’t think I’d ever have the courage to try to change a leg opening on a swimsuit… 😬😂😂
Catherine every time I watch you, I go rooting through wardrobe to see what I can alter. Just brought 3 items that were going to charity shop out of the bag and altered. Now back in wardrobe. Sadly I never seem to find things when out, to thrift up.
Sorry I hit the send button too early and did not make the corrections. Thank you for your channel. My sewing skills have improved because of you! ❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦
You definitely have an eye for these things! That is just an amazing video. I’m really glad that the strapless bathing suit didn’t need it’s top elastic replaced!
I wash my wool coat in my washing machine on the wool setting & it’s perfect I’ve done it Muti full times with no problems the joys of an off white coat . Great makeovers everything looked lovely.😊
Sooo many wins! I loved those fish pants, glad to see them again! They look great with the black peplum top. The cropped jacket was a surprise 🎉 it gives me ideas of how to "freshen up" some of mine. I was so scared of you giving up the black dress! 😯 and then sooo relieved when you ended up with skirts, a top, and a dress! 😅 🎉😂 Who knew a sewing video could be so dramatic! The tension! 😂 Thanks! It's so much fun to watch you create!
Hi Catherine! i am glad the algorithm suggested your videos to me a while ago :-) You really teach us how to do things, all these dos and donts that make stuff look cool instead of wonky and half-donkeyed...and you are so happy with results, it's impossible to not smile back! Have you thought about using clapper? It does make a ton of difference, maybe because wood is a little porous while still smooth and firm? For me it gives better results than a. just waiting b. 'ow, ow, auch' or c. linen towel and stack of books (long story involving pleated silk skirt)
I need to get thrifting! That wool jacket ❤ The rest is superb too! I buy thrifted swim wear, always wash and if not for me makes cute little shorts for my granddaughter 😊
Wow so many good pieces. Great upcycles!!! I got treated to a trip to the thrift store yesterday for mothers day. I got some great things but also got two things that I will need to mend/alter.
The bachelor buttons are new to me! Very cool! And who woulda thought to restyle bathing suits? I love watching you and like your more casual approach to “perfection.” Many of us feel “less than” when we can’t get it exact.
So glad I finally found the time to watch this video to the end. I particularly looked very closely when you started working with the sheer fabric of the skirt. I want to make a sheer top to wear over a sleeveless dress for my daughter’s thesis defense. I am very afraid of working with the delicate fabric. I know I will need to make French seams and I get cold sweats just thinking about it!

Hands down, best thrifting, and best sewing you tube channel out there! Thank you!
$18 base cost. Talent & skill -- PRICELESS. I just get dropjaw from your videos. You "see" things in clothes! Everything is absolutely beautiful. And you look GOOD in that bandeau swim top
Awww, thank you so. much!! I'm so glad you liked everything!
So creative!
Catherine, I don’t know which makes me love this so much. Your creativity or your enthusiasm for the results. Either way, you are inspiring and infectious to watch. Thanks for such a fun video.
You're just a genius. That's it!
I fricken love your videos. Love the update to that patterned jacket. You have the coolest sewing machine, that button hole attachment is amazing. And those buttons are so fun.

That makes my day! Have a great holiday and enjoy wearing your new tunic!!
Wow wow wow 🎉 one thrifted dress makes half a capsule wardrobe. Genius 😀
Oh my goodness!! This has got to be THE best upcycle video EVER; and at such a bargain price! WOW, just WOW…
I watched all the way to the end and as usual it was well worth it. Thank you Catherine!
I love how creative you are & it inspires me to try new things sewing! I do appreciate the mini fashion shows! Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦
You made a whole travel capsule wardrobe! Brilliant! Love the swimsuit and cover up skirt, looks great!
I'm excited for a long Catherine Sews video!! I've been checking daily for a new one 😊
Oh, that's so nice! That makes my day!
You are amazing! I'm so inspired by you. I'd love a way to share our upcycle projects with each other!
That dress was a SCORE with how versatile you made it! Great video!
a good comparison to thrifting swimsuits would be hotel towels - they have been used intimately, then just washed and passed on to you. A decent wash is all anything needs. Great videos, keep it up :)
Yes! Hotel towels are the perfect analogy! Thanks!
To make sure they are totally free of anything, after washing, dry on high for 50 minutes. Then you will be good to go!
Thank you, my fellow Canadian!! 🇨🇦 ❤️
Just love learning from your thrift store clothing transformations, Catherine. Chalk or pin inside out, baste, try on, repeat if necessary, and stitch! Thank you for explaining as you demonstrate. 🪡🧵🫶🏻
If the fishy pants weren’t fun enough, calling them fishy pants is fun.
What a great video!!! Everyone needs one of those 3 in 1 dresses to upcycle!
I just love watching you, your enthusiasm is infectious!
I'm so glad to see you tackle the dreaded swimsuit! I've got several I've been hanging onto because I love the fit, but the elastic is shot. Thanks to you I'm gonna give it a go before beach season! Thanks Catherine

Wow, Catherine! I feared you were going to lose that surprise dress, but what a bonus! -Kelly
3 piece dress, genius! the sheer skirt looks much better with the thinner elastic.
You are the best! I love these thrift videos. You give me so much confidence! BTW... my little, 7 year old, grandson was given a soccer uniform in a size 14!...No problem, Mimi can fix it and I did! Wow! Wow! Wow! Super clever indeed. Loved it all ❤

Well done! I have been waiting all weekend for your video as well.....never fails to impress and inspire.
Awww, thanks so much! Sorry to keep you waiting until Monday morning!
Love that black dress. First i was sad to see it cut up but what you did with it was brilliant! Awesome!
I never heard them called bachelor buttons before 😄 great job with everything!
Thrift Store SCORE!!🤩 Everything turned out just perfect! Love everything. 😍
Brilliant thrifting. Thanks Catherine.
WOW!! What a beautiful bargain wardrobe that looks stunning. You have such a talent for seeing things in a different way. Thank you so much for sharing your clothing genius with us. I know you will have a great summer in your new looks. ENJOY!
Genius on the dress upcycle!
Brilliant! I gasped when you cut into that beautiful dress but wow, great results.
Loved this one. Great ideas. Thank you. ❤

Love everything in this fabulous thrift upcycling video! Thanks, Catherine for sharing creative and inspiring ideas.

Love the top of the dress with other bottoms! The entire capsule wardrobe is brilliant! Well done! Now you need to schedule a up-cyclers’ cruise!
Oh, I love that idea!
I love what you did with that dress! ❤ You could even wear the swimsuits with the skirt and lining as a casual outfit. That's all you need for your whole holiday. Sweet. 😊
Thanks! That's a great idea!
Wow, Catherine! I'm so glad you preserved that black dress, because it looks so pretty on you. But the way you made it so multi-use is amazing.
What great buys! Clothes in thrift shops seem more expensive in Australia. Thanks to watching your videos I can now buy things that are not exactly right and alter them. Always so inspiring to watch you. Thank you
Just SO crazy fabulous!!!
Awww, thanks Susan!! U da best!!!

Thanks so much, Precious! I've never heard of a home dry cleaning kit. That's a great tip! Good luck with your summer dress!
@@CatherineSews - in the US, it says Dryel on the package...
You are the best! ❤
What amazing things you’ve made. Fantastic new wardrobe 😊
Never heard about the type of buttons you used or the Sewkey tape. So, I learned about something new to use in my sewing.
I love what you did here, and have a suggestion. If the elastic on the legs was so stretched out, the elastic around the bandeau top might need to be replaced as well. You don't want to find out while you're swimming!
Haha, you’re probably right! I won’t be diving in this one, lol.
Very cute outfits. Lots of inspiration. Thank You.
Wow love what you did to the dress. Your travel outfits are fantastic. You inspire me to look at my wardrobe now.
What a delightful surprise Catherine. I do my button holes with a scalpel on a cutting mat. That's if my machine hasn't decided to go rogue the minute i want to make buttonholes! 😠 The dress looked amazing on you.❤
Thank you, Queen! I admire your courage with that scalpel!
You inspire me to try something like this. I love what you did with the black dress- so cleaver! Now you just have to book that cruise...🙂

Love love love all the ways you can use/wear the black dress!!!
Brilliant video, you certainly have a talent for up cycling, thank you for sharing all your ideas, ❤
You were shopping at my favourite thrift store in Chilliwack!
The navy and white jacket looks amazing. I haven't had much luck with altering swimsuits so far but if I can thrift some I will try again using my new serger, inspired by your work. The travel wardrobe is brilliant, very versatile pieces apart and lovely as the dress. Love watching your videos!
Love! I'm so glad you were able to preserve that lovely flattering dress as a dress as well as the separate pieces. Bon voyage!
You do such a great job explaining what you're doing!
Love everything Cathrine , your so clever 👌
Hi Catherine! I've been watching and learning a lot from you ..that's what I'm doing too, going shopping at thrift boutique and do some alteration doing some of your tips. .I love what you did on that Lace or crochet blouse on your other video it turned out so nice , you are so creative 😍. Can't neat that, Catherine !!! Yep !!! ❤
I kinda thought you were nuts to cut that skirt off-the dress was so awesome! But OF COURSE, it all turned out brilliantly. BRAVA! ❤🎉
I’m definitely going to be watching first dresses I can at least turn into little cute blouses.
Thanks so much for sharing!

Pack your suitcase and come to the coastline of SC! Stay with me for a few weeks I just got my sewing room finished 😂😂😂
Wow. The black dress didn’t die. What a relief. lol
Catherine every time I watch you, I go rooting through wardrobe to see what I can alter. Just brought 3 items that were going to charity shop out of the bag and altered. Now back in wardrobe. Sadly I never seem to find things when out, to thrift up.
Everything turned out beautifully! Such nice ideas. The dress flip is the best for travel.
Thanks! I agree. I LOVE how versatile it is!
Catherine I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!! I learn so much watching your make ypur upcycled wardrobe in this one!!!
Sorry I hit the send button too early and did not make the corrections. Thank you for your channel. My sewing skills have improved because of you! ❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦
Some great finds Catherine and great up cycling Love them. 🙋🏼🏴
You’re brilliant. I’m so inspired. Thanks
Absolutely Brilliant!!!
Really!? Wow! I don’t think I have a wool setting but I’ll double check!
That was great!!! I love it all!
Who knew a sewing video could be so dramatic! The tension! 😂
Thanks! It's so much fun to watch you create!
Well done, I love your videos.😊
Hi Catherine! i am glad the algorithm suggested your videos to me a while ago :-)
You really teach us how to do things, all these dos and donts that make stuff look cool instead of wonky and half-donkeyed...and you are so happy with results, it's impossible to not smile back!
Have you thought about using clapper? It does make a ton of difference, maybe because wood is a little porous while still smooth and firm? For me it gives better results than a. just waiting b. 'ow, ow, auch' or c. linen towel and stack of books (long story involving pleated silk skirt)
Hi Marta, I'm glad you found me too! I've never really gotten into using a clapper, but maybe I should!
I need to get thrifting! That wool jacket ❤ The rest is superb too! I buy thrifted swim wear, always wash and if not for me makes cute little shorts for my granddaughter 😊
I love the idea of turning a swimsuit into kids shorts! So cute!
Love, Love, Love ❤️
Wow so many good pieces. Great upcycles!!! I got treated to a trip to the thrift store yesterday for mothers day. I got some great things but also got two things that I will need to mend/alter.
I was mesmerized with this video
The bachelor buttons are new to me! Very cool! And who woulda thought to restyle bathing suits? I love watching you and like your more casual approach to “perfection.” Many of us feel “less than” when we can’t get it exact.
the possibilities!!!! just amazing!!!!
not going to be scouring my own local thrift stores now....😏
Fantastic video! You always pull the rabbit out of a hat! 🐇 😊
I love everything about this!!
Fantastic!!!!!😀🤗😀🤗
Thrifty 👍👍👍❤️
So glad I finally found the time to watch this video to the end. I particularly looked very closely when you started working with the sheer fabric of the skirt. I want to make a sheer top to wear over a sleeveless dress for my daughter’s thesis defense. I am very afraid of working with the delicate fabric. I know I will need to make French seams and I get cold sweats just thinking about it!
Catherine, love ALL your videos! This one is another great!
Have you ever tried elastic thread while stitching a straight seam that you want to stretch? I requested mine as a gift from Amazon and it’s great! I got that Coats Eloflex and it comes in black and white, plus a myriad of other colors. I immediately thought of it when you mentioned the waist seam in the black skirt waistband!
Thank you! I've never tried sewing with elastic thread, but I saw Alicia from Thoughtful Creativity using it and I wondered! Maybe I'll give it a try.
Wow, girl! Everything turned out great! What a great thrift shopping wardrobe. ❤️
