A couple years ago my husband had Covid for 12 weeks, 11 months later, he broke his ankle, three weeks after that, I broke my back. I was never so thankful as to have a prepared pantry as I was over these past two years. We had no income because he is Self-Employed and I was unemployed due to the pandemic. Even though I work in healthcare. I had no patients and our sleep centers closed. It’s not always about a catastrophe. It’s about illness injury job loss or a catastrophe. Could be weather related. Thank you for sharing this. I learned a few more things and now I will add it to my list as well.❤
@@neecywatson8250 yes it was a horrible time! We are good now. He only has some memory issues from the low oxygenation and some scar tissue on the base of his lungs. I’m fully recovered and gardening. Thanks for commenting. 😀
I certainly hope that both you and your husband are long since fully recovered, health wise and financially, by now (2024). I understand and wholeheartedly agree with you on this. I had already been retired when I fractured an ankle in 2015, went through a cancer surgery in 2017, and like us all was impacted by Pandemic shortages in 2020. Each time the stockpile in my pantry helped get me through. Thanks to my parents who were Depression era babies and experienced food rationing as teenagers during WWII, I already practiced putting up a store of shelf stable and canned goods for a rainy day.
This Lady is the first prepper I have seen on YT that has her act together. She talks down to earth and sensible as to what to stock instead of "Oh hurry run out and buy all this junk you will never eat because it may not be there tomorrow".
I would love to do a stock up shopping trip, but my monthly budget allows about $50 or less. I started going to the food bank drops last month. They are 95% produce right now. I've bèn very grateful to be able to can most of the items I have gotten. Cabbage and made Sauerkraut, carrots, white and sweet potatoes, yellow squash, zucchini, and sweet peppers. It's been a huge blessing to be able to can these things for winter.
I bought some Idahoan instant potatoes at Dollar Tree, that were slightly over the expiration date which was fine…I thought. They didn’t taste fresh at all! Has anyone else had this happen? I was really shocked!
Well we've been stocking up for winter since 50 years before I was born. My husband's side to in Kansas - minnesota the ice the snow can cut your supply off. the crazy grown kids loosing jobs- then getting new ones 4 weeks later, the church asking for donations for new people who have moved in. . Yep. aug- Sept -Oct. We get totes full of 50 to 200 cans each type of canned goods, milk- veg- fruits- meats- soups - stews- beans- soup stock or condensed- up to 7 variety of tomatoes. We don't do much baking so we switch to more rice, more complete or mixes then we ziplock each box for our sweets. The crockpot, the pressure cooker, the casseroles- the hot dish- the pot pies- salad fixings & pull it together potlucks. Yep we don't know how many God will give us to feed. But we know we can help by buying basic items and making schedules of 6 meals, 4 lunches, work lunches, breakfasts, potlucks, poker night, church giving & all those drinks. We start with basic buys then add desserts, sauces, condiments, & spices. We decide if they are frozen, or shelf stable. And bulk up totes all over our house where we can keep that supply. It's nothing new here to go to a wake for s death and our family will be are we donating his stash or are dividing it. Heck sometimes it written in the Will. We are large farmers ranchers taking care of crew, family, local church Donations & yep blessing boxes & colleges in need. We never buy extra of varuetys like chipolte- peppers - hot spices. Because we know we may not eat this it may be donated. And most places refuse spicy. So we've learned to make big batches, big donations, and tiny 2 meals for just us or tiny tot meals for our grandkids. Don't worry about who you will feed. God will find you. So buy basic only bulk what exactly you eat. Don't be thinking about trading food, bartering etc. That's just not Jesus's way. He's helpful. So pack 10 totes full of your faves. Buy a crock pot for everyone at Christmas and send them flats of canned food home as a bonus gift. It's never to early to prep for Christmas giving. We also give grandkids each a flat of evaporated milk and big mega boxes of cocoa-& drink mixes. Nothing like hot cocoa in milk at night after playing outside. My daughter gives nissan cup a soup singles to every grandkid with snacks & crackers. We give cocoa packets, quaker oatmeal, Mac n cheese singles for Halloween. Kids are very hungry after walking.
I just went to winco and started stocking for winter fall holidays, it’s not cheap but I do it every week w what I can afford, I have noticed egg prices are creeping back up along w butter, I have no shame in what I buy in can form or cheese stuff, it’s what my family eats, along w canning things also and from the garden, I buy organic when I can, and canned stuff from the store, a lot of organic things are just not in my budget, my family gets good healthy food within the budget I can afford, I say something is better than nothing💜
My local Walmart had regular mouth Kerr canning lids for .50 a box. Yes, fifty cents a box! I bought 2 flats of 24. I just got done canning all of my diced tomatoes and tomato sauce for the season and had used a lot of lids. It was a true blessing to be able to restock in one fell swoop!
Be careful! I bought some of those on clearance at my Walmart too and they didn’t seal well. Looking on the side of the box let me know that they were from 2020. I actually returned mine😞
@@kimpossible9211 that date shouldn't matter. However some people have been having issues with Kerr/Ball lids, others have not. It may be more of a "lot" thing than a date thing. Even if she has a couple of fails that is an awesome price!!!
Probably the number one season of the year to stock up. So many times you either can't or would rather not even have to get out of the house to shop. I guess that also depends on where you live...how much snow and ice you get and for how long, or just not liking icy cold weather period. For me in Va. and I will be 85 when winter hits our area, I just like to hibernate. LOL.

Get a copy of the Ball Blue book of canning and just get started. That pressure canner is your new besty when it comes to putting up "meals in minutes". I spend a few days every year when it cools off and we eat home canned chili con carne, spaghetti sauce, roast beef, canned chicken, every kind of bean, stew, pot pie fillings, jelly, jam, you name it. A few weekends a year to eat fast the rest of the year.
Just got back from Meijers and what a deal they had!!! Meijer boneless skinless chicken breast were 50 cents per pound! Marked down 75% and best by date is two days away. Wasn’t planning on buying any but ended 0:00 up getting 7 family packs! Roughly $3.00 each family pack. I guess I need to get out canner out! Happy prepping July!
There has been quite a few times I've bought meat close to the best before here...there was still 3-4 days left to go and when I opened the packages it was bad-stunk to high heaven.
Wow, what a great deal. I sometimes will buy the markdown meat and I have started vacuum sealing them, to go into the freezer. I use to just put them in freezer bags, but they don't do as well as the vacuum sealer. I just received another order of bags for my sealer. But, I never find any good meat at our Kroger on clearance, but sometimes will find it at another store.
We will be winter prepping in August and September in TN because a 3 month tax holiday has been declared on groceries. Will be canning meat like crazy as well as pantry items.

When I shop for groceries, I fill the needs list. Once I’m done I walk the aisle and see what is on sale that we use. That’s what I will stock up on for that shopping trip. I’m wierd but it works for me.
I don't get out in the winter...fell a few times and don't heal so well anymore so yes I stock up. Also lived out in the middle of nowhere as a kid as we faced a blizzard...I learned well.
I did a pre-winter stock up last year, for the first time. It was so helpful to free up money during high utility bills in the winter. I did pancake mix/chocolate chips/syrup; pizza crust mix/sauce/pepperoni/mushrooms; instant potatoes/canned roast beef with gravy, etc. Can't wait to see what else you get!

I feel better after watching this. Just finishing up 5 bags of corn. 20 dozen in each. Some frozen, some canned and got all the silks drying for tea and jelly! Picking up 5 bushels of green beans tomorrow to can. My u pick farm also has half bushel baskets of ugly tomatoes, $12 each or 2 for $18. Lots of those coming home with me too. Not physically able to pick my own and I can use my EBT and they double the amount with a state program for seniors. Win win for me. My prepper friends and I will be busy canning all week. Another couple of our group took lists of what everyone needed or wanted and headed to Chef's Store. It's all spread out in my living room for everyone to pick up. Then garden harvesting soon for fresh and getting ready for fall planting.
@@debbiesavage7107 we're all seniors and live close. We garden and prep together to make it easier and affordable. I have the canning stuff and the biggest yard for gardening so we all help. 8 of us altogether. Widows and widowers and couples. Works out great.
Great job. I do this also. Not all in one month though. I stock up on everything I can, not just food. I started this about 35 years ago. I live in an area where we can get snowed in. So I do my best to have everything I need before the end of September. I stock up on a lot of boxed milk also

I did this same thing yesterday, at Sams Club. I LOVE stocking but girl, I am LITERALLY running out of room lol My canning is taking OVER MY HOUSE (YAY) LOL
If you got a wall with nothing on it, Put up shelves. If you got a chance against the wall, pull it out 7in, build some 6-inch shelves behind it you can put all canned foods behind your couch.
@@TakeTheRide I can't do that, my hubby is in a wheelchair and we have a very small house (he has just enough room to get through, even had to widen the doorways), as for shelves, I have EVERY closet filled with buckets, jars, and some clothes (and the walls in my bedroom) lol Under my bed is completely filled, and my laundry "closet" is filled with shelves, stuffed and I even had my brother build me another closet and that is filled lol When I say I am packed full, I am PACKED FULL! Not complaining at ALL, now I am looking to have one of my big sheds out back have some electricity in it and hooked to the house, then I will be in heaven :) I have been prepping for over 3 years and I went gung (is that even a real word) hoe on it too!
still have 12 pints of water bathed strawberries, 9-quarts of veggie soup and various itty bitty jars of some kind of sausage sitting on 2 kitchen counters. My twin sis will come to the house and literally plead: "Have anything to can?" . The above mentioned items are the result of her last pleading. I STILL haven't figured out where I'm gonna stash 'em😳
Thank You for the video. I do a freezer clean out during the hot summer months. I use alternative cooking methods to grill meat. I limit oven use to only certain days and certain times to keep my house from getting too hot. I do not spend all of my grocery budget. I use the produce that I grew. I supplement that with vegetables from local Farmstands. Once a month I purchase a large family salad for $5 from a Papa Murphy's and have several days of salad lunches. I do everything that I can to save money for the fall sales in certain categories. I either purchase a whole hog or a quarter beef. I locate the store remodel sales and stock up on chicken as well. I use whatever is leftover to add to my food storage. During the past 2 years, I have been working with a prepping group and we have been getting food salvage. The food pantries get donations that no one wants so they have to either find someone to take them or throw them away. We take them and process them and divide them up amongst the group. The people that visit the food pantries do not cook from scratch and are picky as they prefer processed junk food. I process things like whole wheat flour or big pork loins or those fancy frozen fish nuggets.
Thank you for this! I have been feeling like I was crazy. My grocery store had Goya beans clearanced to $.60 a bag, 2 pound boxes of spaghetti- $.50, 1 pound boxes of rotini $.69, and some of the Ham Beens mixes were $.77. I bought a lot! My kids thought I was crazy but with two teenage boys, we go through a lot of food!
My Christian pantry has recently cut back on handing out 40 pound boxes of frozen miss-cut chicken; thighs or drumsticks or chicken breast. I was able to get a box twice a month. One box of chicken breasts gave me 35 pints canned. Then ive also gotten potatoes (white and sweet), carrots, cabbage, onions, blackberries, mangos. At 72 I've learned to can for the first time in my life. So I'm just canning my little heart out and loving it.
I canned 12 jars of ground beef and 12 jars of chicken breast. Helping our son in Alabama, they are having our 2nd grandbaby, and they love it. I absolutely love that they love it. ❤ oh, and 12 jars of applesauce.
Me too. I tried those Family Max packs of pork chops, remove the bone, also corned beef, and leftover steak portions. All in pints as a quart is too much for one.
I bought a 20# bag of Pintos at Walmart in my last haul. Hubby couldn't believe I'd bought that big of a bag. I said, "if things get really bad, you may not want to eat beans that often, but you won't starve." Lol

It's been so HOT!, I rediscovered my love for cottage cheese and fruit as well. I canned peaches a couple years ago, go way to cycle thru, put in the fridge to chill. Yum and healthy ❤
I received shelf from Amazon today to start converting my backporch/ laundry room to my pantry. Each paycheck I buy extra pantry items and will slowly build mine

Great haul. I just helped my friend in her garden for three hours today. We got the whole thing weeded. I transplanted a bunch of cabbage, so I think that put us at about 25 plants. Harvested all the cabbage. We are going to make Pinballs recipe. We got fresh onions and rutabagas today too. Got fresh onions to put in our recipe with the cabbage. So a good day in the garden. Oh and I dug up a potato plant that came up from last years potatoes. So many volunteers this year. We planted about 100 potatoes this year. So we will be busy canning and storing them. Thanks for all the great videos. A friend in Michigan
My son just bought his first home and now my husband and I are empty nesters. I moved my 2 shelves from off the enclosed porch and moved them into his old room and then got a few extra shelves to make that my upstairs pantry and what is downstairs is my long term. When I moved some of the food upstairs, it was a good thing because I realized I was lower on some things than I thought. I started stocking up on those things this past weekend.

I live in central California and a big change during winter is I bake bake bake and fill up the freezer so I don’t have to bake when it’s 100+ degrees outside. So summer stock up is the usual flour, sugar etc but also canned pumpkin, peaches, applesauce and spices.

I love it too. Already started for my adult kids. Cases of corn and green beans, pasta and sauce, peanut butter, jelly. That’s it so far. I’m already ready for winter!! At my house🤣 I use the PB2 powder. It’s expensive. I get three cases of every vegetable. Lots of different beans. Canned meats.
At this time of year I go to Aldi and buy beans, rice, canned veggies, canned potatoes (all soups stuff), I buy summer specialty jams and jellys (strawberry rhubarb is in season). I pick up sauerkraut, condiments, and fruits. Also it is a good time to get summer sausage and cured meats like pepperoni to use for pizza. I pick up extra coffee filters and juice is supper easy to find. All this gets stored for later use
I will have to pickup more coffee filters, as I just gave a pkg to my daughter because the store sent her the wrong size filters. I keep them on hand for just in case my Keurig goes down. I have a back up coffee pot and of course a camping coffee pot as well.

Really surprised you came in under $300 with the way prices are. I stock up on the “15 bean soup” bean bags, and cans of fire roasted diced tomatoes, which I add to the bean soup. We eat a lot of sloppy joes (venison burger) so dry mixes and cans of tomato paste (looking for a scratch recipe for the seasonings, no good ones so far) - any suggestions? Pastas for sure. Brown gravy mixes - I doctor those up with red wine, butter and brown mushrooms for meatballs/ mash potatoes and gravy. We also have buckets and buckets of different rices - we eat a lot of rice. Oh and our house CANNOT run out of pickled jalapenos - it would cause widespread rebellion.

I actually started going to the mennonite store where they sell sleeves of 60ct superb lids and I will stock up on 8 sleeves during the winter when you dont have to worry as much about if there are any available or not.
So true that our eating habits change. When I was going to work as a sub teacher, or before that, on my school bus, I went through a lot of dried fruit, vienna sausages, and other food that travelled well. I spent two days cleaning and re-arranging my pantry last week - a good job to do in the coolest part of my farm during the hottest weather - and dusted off some of those Vienna sausages. I put them where they are more noticeable. I threw out a bunch of BBQ sauce I canned, and some (not all) salsa. Lately I prefer my salty snacks plain. My inventory is up to date, and being added to every day as I pick berries and freeze them, make jam, etc. Next up will be canning beans! For cheese, I stock up when it goes on sale: June is dairy month, then sometimes for holidays like Christmas and New Years it is often on sale. I put it in the freezer and it does just fine. Now, it will fall apart in chunks and not stay together when you cut it, but that is fine for macaroni and cheese, etc.
@@bbrhody831 I have done that before as well. I actually have 2 blocks of cheese sitting in my fridge. I was going to write the date on them with a sharpie. But, now I am thinking maybe I should shred them first. lol

You name it..we stock up..to get thru winter..i learned this over 50 yrs ago from my grandparents. Last year my husband lost his job on New Years Eve (Our Anniversary) due to company cut backs. I was wxtremely thankful that I had done a winter pantry stock up of food, household, and Hygiene items. If I had not done that I just can not imagine how bad things would have gotten for us then. He was out of work for 2 months and during that time my husband definitely developed an all new appreciation for my efforts of stocking the pantry and freezers with a yrs worth of everything we use. He use to question if we really needed that much stuff at one time! (Last yr was the first year that I was able to actually stock enough for a full "Year's" worth and I am happy to say I didnt overstock and just 2 items was understocked.) Needless to say he doesnt question anything anymore and he did get tonsee I did not "over stock" any thing and it "potentially go to waste".
Great deals. I just finished a long canning day filled with beans, pork and chicken broth. Meat was half off and will come in handy on those cold days.
It's always a good idea to have back-ups. You never know what can happen-- jars bust, food gardens fail, and 'tin can' food is better than no food and do tend to last a bit longer. If anything else, they can be given to people who couldn't be as prepared (we all had those emergencies that wiped ya out of money and energy)

My favorite stock up food is canned tomatoes...summer, winter, spring, fall, I love canned "diced" tomatoes. I could safely say it is the most of any one thing I have in my pantry. Thanks for sharing your stock up start. Have a Blessed day.
@@Bloodhoundjed1 Oh I love Rotel. I buy it by the case. Here is a recipe I have been using for more than 50 years....1 can Original Rotel and 2 8oz. bricks of cream cheese. (You can use store brand if you want but do not use low fat versions it doesn't do well) Mix the softened cream cheese with Rotel using a hand mixer until well blended. If you want to add some garlic powder to your taste that is OK too, but I usually just use the 2 ingredients. Pour into a storage container and chill for a few hours. This is a great dip for Fritos or chips, it is also delicious on a hamburger, or used as a dip for vegetables.
Thanks Leisa! Well, I guess I'm doing ok because I still have loads from when I stocked like crazy when the bugaboo hit. I'm proud of myself today because I hit some random good deals on burger and ground turkey (which is stupid expensive now - got it for 30% off) and I came home with lots of goodies for canning incl. 10lbs of beets (gave me 10 pints😊) for about $130.00. Note: Cream of "whatever" soups were on special 3/$6.00 (I know, brutal!) But that's what it's like up here in Ontario now. I saw some ridiculous prices on things in jars (we must be paying for the glass!) I blend my coffees as well! It's saves loads $$! Now the gardens are coming in so the only things we need to focus on are meats and good clothing and fire wood. We are golden. Love from the North!!
I'm stocking up on chili beans, canned meats & veg, & canned fruit. I gave almost enough frozen dibs & dabs of stuff to make a HUGE batch of veg beef soup. Already have ham & bean soup in the freezer. I like to keep unsweetened cocoa powder on hand. Great for hot chocolate, pudding, chocolate gravy ( it's a thing here in the south!). Baking happens mostly in the winter for me. Thanks for the early prepping nudge!

You've given me a lot of good ideas. I weeded the carrot beds today. Hubby is building more raised beds from free pallets. Dehydrating my herbs. Getting some fermentation done, yum. Lots of rain here (NE PA) everything is growing well, but not ready to pick. Next weekend I'm going to a local farm stand where I can get veg in bulk to do some canning.....with my NEW pressure canner!!! Invested in a 2nd canner and extra supplies because of the advice from you and others in the know. Thanks for all you do!

I’m going to be teaching some cousins of mine how to can. Somehow I have the most experience despite being the youngest, so this month I’ll be helping them stock up and doing tomatoes for myself. I have everything else for me as a single adult and then some, but lately a lot of farmers markets here have orange tomatoes which I want to switch to. Orange tomatoes are lower acid than regular and I have GERD. I adore tomatoes and won’t give them up but I will go to the effort to get a lower acid one and hopefully I can get plenty for the next year before growing my own next year. It’s always interesting to me the things people prioritize and why and the thought process, because it sparks my own thinking for mine.
Let us know when you try the mrs. Wages seasonings. I groped San marzano and roma tomatoes in my garden and used them in mrs. Wages salsa, pasta sauce and tomato soup. The dill pickle mix is good too.
This is my time we stock up on fruit/fruit juices. The kids are always looking for something "fresh" as they say in the winter but winter isn't fruit time. So I get every fruit on sale and can, can, can and use scraps to make fruit lemonade.
Great haul lesa. Love it ! I like winter stock up also. I don't like having to get on the road when icy or real cold. Also, if something happens I've got food for couple weeks till it gets better. Ty for sharing.
I too begin shopping early for the fall and winter months. Now is the time I plan my holiday meals. There is always an item that’s plentiful all year (like cranberry sauce) until the onset of the holidays. We prefer fresh but unless the price is right we use canned cranberry sauce. If I find a super deal then I buy 4-6 bags and make my own and can it up for the year. In addition to candied fruit for fruit cakes I’ll add dried fruits too. They’re usually in stock all year and do great in the freezer. I’ve been doing this for years and it insures me to have everything in advance and it saves on the grocery bill as well. I also check my stockpile and even though I’m not in need of anything I’ll still pick up one or two items. Paper products, cleaning supplies and whatever I find on special that fits in my stockpile.
Great video Leisa, thank you so much for the reminder to pick up some extra pasta! I would love to see a video on how you make your mac and cheese for Phil ❤
To extend shelf life of jarred peanut butter: peel off seal. pour a thin layer of honey on top of peanut butter. Seals it and makes it shelf stable much longer
I love it that you do not look down on us mortal folk who buy canned goods! Some people just don't have the time and space to can fresh produce themselves. As long as one's belly is full, there is nothing wrong with canned veggies and fruit. The only thing to take note of is the salt content in some products, especially meat, and plan meals around lightening the sodium load.
I am focusing on stocking up on food that are high in nutrition and protein. Various types of canned meat, tuna, chicken, beef stew, chili, corned beef hash, canned and dry beans, and rice. Oats, sugar, salt and flour. There is protein in oats, rice and pasta, and they are relatively inexpensive. Not that anything is inexpensive anymore. I told my daughters to buy 5 extra items each week if they can and in a month they will have a little stash of 20 items. It all adds up.
August is our stock up for winter month. I love all of your ideas and info. July is our largest canning month of veggies. September is usually our meat canning month according to what is on sale.

Time to start stocking up on chili making ingredients. I do a simple one - 1 can kidney beans, 1 can crushed tomatoes, chicken broth, packet of chili seasoning. I buy packets of fresh ground turkey or chicken when it goes on sale buy 1, get 1 and pop it into the freezer. When it comes time to make it, all I need is some fresh onion, green pepper to dice and saute before I add the other ingredients to the pot. If you want to stock up on onion and peppers, you can buy the frozen bag of peppers and onions at Walmart when they go on sale.
I've been hearing peaches are in short supply this year. I called an ad in the paper and asked for the price before I ordered a box. The price has doubled over last year! So we went and bought a case if canned peaches instead.
I am from Georgia and peaches are always plentiful… not so this year. First time in 20 years I didn’t get my Eberta Peaches. They were small hard and $50 a box.😳
Another thought! School supplies will be going on sale soon, my kids are grown and only have one granddaughter in school. I like to keep extra school supplies on hand; notebooks, binders, pencils, crayons, glue, sharpies, etc.
All I use is mrs wages! Love anything by her. Always use kosher dill mix for my pickles plus add jalapeño, garlic cloves, fresh grape leaves and fresh dill. Best pickles ever!
Canned peaches, pears, and fruit cocktail. Tomato soup (yeah, Campbells or even Walmart), chili, and clam chowder + extra cans of diced clams, hash or canned corned beef to make hash, lots of spam (but that a year-round thing 'cause hubby loves his spam, egg & cheese sandwiches). Then, we'll see where Fall takes us.
My late husband really dissed me for my stock up. Then Covid hit. I can make some pretty good bread and he was so happy that neither of us had to go to the store. Neither of us got sick either.
2 summers ago I found some organic 1# quality made in italy spaghetti which is the ive ever eatten..it was 50 cents its best buy date was 24..i hit that endcap every week buying 20 at a time...at the end of summer they moved the spaghetti case loads to the shelf and put 1.50 price it. Im still eatting it..probaly will have it for years. Delicious!

Stock up in tuna, baked beans, jasmine rice, bread flour ( make my own bread) yeast and also love getting applesauce when on sale it lasts for quite awhile. As you do fruit, and canned vegetables. I also store dry goods in Mylar bags making food storage safe for many years. So I have my kitchen food, my pantry food for the coming year and long term storage. Just joined your site, looking forward to learning more.

Love watching you. You and a few others I watch reminds me of soooooo very much how we grew up. Prepared for winter & such. There were a lot of us in my family & didn't have much $ back in those days it wasn't called peppers. It was called common sense on feeding your family. Thank you for all you do. God bless you
I stopped at Schnuck's today on my way home from work and they had bacon on sale for $2.99! Haven't seen that price in at least 6 months so I bought a few and will stop again tomorrow for a few more. Yes Always stocking up when it's cost effective
Leisa, don’t feel bad about the “processed cheese food”! Even though I’ve made a change to eating as much Whole Foods as I can, I make lots of Mac and cheese for my grandbabies and I use velvetta or other store equivalents and a mixture of some cheddar and white American because it makes THE BEST Mac and Cheese!! I keep the open loaf in a ziplock in my fridge. I really appreciate it being shelf stable before opening!! So easy to keep it stocked!! I think you were able to buy a lot of food for a very reasonable amount of money and your pantry is gonna be so happy!! Great job!!🥰🥳
Here in the UK we dont have velveeta or the tradition of cooking mac n cheese with processed cheese. Our mac n cheese and cauliflower cheese use just plain cheddar, but I alwats add a small amount of grated parmisan to these. It packs a punch. I freeze ready grated cheese including parmesan for cooking because it helps minimse waste. (Not that there is a concept of waste cheese with three dogs!)

I'm doing 1 year with out grocery store , so my stock up is for 1 year. I dont drive and cab fare to my grocery store is 45.00 per trip, so doing huge hauls is perfect for me.. I'm a low income only parent , and doing this makes me feel good. Some people get their nails done, some their hair, I cut my own hair and save all the money for food hauls.. I live in Ontario local produce went really high in price , I have gardens which help , but you better believe I'll buy frozen fruit, still from ontario over paying 6.50 for a tiny box of strawberries, or buy frozen corn over doing my own paying 8.00 a dozen for corn. If I see butter at 5.00 a lb I'll buy 10 lbs and put in freezer it's usually 7.99 -9.99 lb , if I see milk on sale ( ours comes in bags) it's usually 6.99 if it drops on sale for 5.99 I'll buy 10 bags and throw in freezer. Prices are not decreasing they will just get worse. I feel less stress knowing I'm prepared. I also start in july but in sept I get my haul of root veggies and apples and other fall harvest and it goes in my cold storage. I grow root veggies but not enough to last 1 yr . And yes it lasts all year in cold storage .. Keep up the great work..
I'm a geek just like you! LOL And I REALLY appreciate how you don't make us feel bad if we do stock "bad" foods. Sometimes there are not enough hours in the day to make EVERYTHING from scratch. As much as we'd all love to do it. I have been making my stock up list this week. Before we know it, winter will be here! I wish I would have found you before I left Michigan! I'm looking foward to your July stock up videos. Well, I honestly love ALL of your videos. LOL Happy Stocking! ~ Stephanie

I started getting a my pantry together a few years ago in July simply because I hate food shopping in winter. You know how much fun it is shopping in a heavy coat and boots? and dragging bags back & forth from the car, right? NOT! But now like a full pantry to start the fall & winter. It just feels good.
Mrs. Wages salsa mix is the best. As the package states.... 6 lbs of fresh tomatoes or 6 cans of tomatoes.... But the mix has an ample amount of salt. So an unsalted tomato would be the better to use. I have used this and the other mixes for many years. It's easy, quick and consistent taste!!
I’ve started stocking up for winter as well. I’m fortunate to have 2 pantries. One larger & one smaller. I don’t get people who buy foods just because there on sale, that they don’t like. Lots of canned fruits for me. Granted, we hardly had a winter this year but you never know , could be bad this coming up winter.

We like to buy a flat (12 cans) of all kinds of beans, corn, etc. We also stock up on rice and dried beans as well. I used to buy canned tomatoes but I grow so many that I either make tomato bisque soup and freeze it, chop it up and freeze it and also dehydrate it as well. Same with zucchini too. I don’t can anything.
We garden and I am in the process of replenishing and harvesting. So far I have the equivalent of 28 jars of tomatoe sauce in the freezer with more to come. Also working on soups. Will have 12 quarts of soup with homemade broth that I make and freeze throughout the year waiting for garden veg. I also have rhubarb, raspberry anDC cherry jam along with syrups and pickles. There's more but it really helps us get through winter.

I learned a few more things and now I will add it to my list as well.❤
You gotta be so thankful for prepping, when I was sick for 15 days I didn't have to go outside, which helped as walking when sick feels so sluggish.
@@grandcanyon2 absolutely!! We don’t realize when being prepared will be so rewarding.
Oh my God that was horrible time. I hope all is good now for you and family.🙏🏽❤️
It's been a huge blessing to be able to can these things for winter.
take $5 extra a week. slow, steady, but it's effective
Dollar store, brand name canned goods, star kist albacore tuna, $1.25
Idaho instant potatoes $1.25, wide flat noodles, $1.25
Himalayan pink salt, $1.25
You don't have to buy it in one big shop. Starting now and look for the deals. Buy the BOGO items. By winter you will have plenty.
Take $5 and challenge yourself, it adds up fast. 🤗
Awesome find!
Happy for your blessing!
Be careful! I bought some of those on clearance at my Walmart too and they didn’t seal well. Looking on the side of the box let me know that they were from 2020. I actually returned mine😞
My tomatoes are just now beginning to show up. I won't have anything ripe for weeks
@@kimpossible9211 that date shouldn't matter. However some people have been having issues with Kerr/Ball lids, others have not. It may be more of a "lot" thing than a date thing. Even if she has a couple of fails that is an awesome price!!!
Yep! Winter will be here before we know. I have not once regretted prepping for winter.
LOL.

Nobody gets to look under the dining room table 😊
We just finished canning 16 jars of hamburger, and 8 quarts of Beef Stew.
How do you can hamburger and beef stew? Is it safe and how long does it last?
I have jars, new lids and a pressure canner. But have Never used it?
@@trishd5789 pressure can , Sutton dayz has really good info on canning
Awesome deal!
Bravo!! Well done
Omg so jealous of you!!!😂
I am addicted to Campbell’s chicken noodle soup. Can’t live without it. Im stocked!
Also great to get Thanksgiving/ Christmas dry ingredients so when those months come, we're not out there fighting the crowd
Im always holiday prepared 1 year ahead. I could throw down a complete turkey dinner for 10 right now.

When I shop for groceries, I fill the needs list. Once I’m done I walk the aisle and see what is on sale that we use. That’s what I will stock up on for that shopping trip. I’m wierd but it works for me.
I do the same.... it's how I build my pantry
I shop Kroger and Albertson for sale items and will use there digital coupons to stock up. And do my regular grocery shopping at another store.
That’s a good strategy. 😊
I don't get out in the winter...fell a few times and don't heal so well anymore so yes I stock up. Also lived out in the middle of nowhere as a kid as we faced a blizzard...I learned well.
Don't forget comfort food...it helps

That is so awesome!!!
Make sure that corn wasn't sprayed. It can affect the silk.

I'm concentrating on soups. Right now I'm canning cabbage soup with beef. Since I live alone, I will share with my family.
Clean out your closets. Get rid of anything you're not using on a monthly basis. If you haven't used it that month, you don't need it.
Same here!!
My kids and my husband think I’m crazy too. Oh well. They won’t be hungry… lol
I would have cleared the shelves with those prices! Great job
Great that you took advantage of those sale prices, amazing, what part of the country do you live in?
@ joannemessina2252 I am in North Carolina!
I bought jars today. $14.9 a dozen for W Mouth qts at Wally world. Yikes...up about 2.00 from last year!
I canned 12 jars of ground beef and 12 jars of chicken breast. Helping our son in Alabama, they are having our 2nd grandbaby, and they love it. I absolutely love that they love it. ❤ oh, and 12 jars of applesauce.
I love canning meat it just makes so much sense. Ugly chicken is the bomb!!

I’m a stock up geek also BUT, buy only when it’s on sale thruout the year. That way one saves money and it’s not so hard on the pocketbook.
I made a half recipe of Pinball's Golumpki to can. I added 3-4 shredded carrots to the batch. It's simple to make and really good! Enjoy!
Totally agree with you on buying canned spinach. Prepping for us means finding that balance between cost, time, space and nutrition.

Sounds great!
I will have to pickup more coffee filters, as I just gave a pkg to my daughter because the store sent her the wrong size filters. I keep them on hand for just in case my Keurig goes down. I have a back up coffee pot and of course a camping coffee pot as well.

This week I canned 15 pints and 2 quarts kraut. That'll last us 2yrs. Today checked out the pantry for holes and what we need to rotate out. Looks like we need me to put up more ugly chicken.
Thanks for showing us your winter haul.

Update your inventory list right now! I love when you can spread it out at the start and know it is correct. Quarterly is coming soon.
Last time I checked there were copy cat spice recipes on Pinterest.
@@kathyfatheree9378 yep, that;s where I started. Have tried a few and didn’t like them. Working my way through the “list”.

I even stock up on can goods from the store, now, of things that i might be canning later because things can always ruin my garden and leave me with nothing. Our tomatoes haven't been doing as well the past couple years.
I've been picking up flats of canned goods every time I go to Aldi. I love a stocked pantry. 😊

I grate mine with food processor then freeze in qt ziploc bags. About 1/3 to 1/2 bag is perfect portion size for 2 of us b 4 it goes bad
@@bbrhody831 I have done that before as well. I actually have 2 blocks of cheese sitting in my fridge. I was going to write the date on them with a sharpie. But, now I am thinking maybe I should shred them first. lol

I was just going to say grate it up. It melts well in omelets, enchiladas, casserole whatever you're doing. Not so much to snack cause it crumbles.
Going to have to try the powdered peanut butter. I have an addiction to peanut butter oatmeal cookies.
I love Wages. Fast and easy. I need to get my pantry ready for the coming winter . I love your videos. They are awesome and motivational.
Thank you Leisa for sharing. ❤️🤗🙏
We have been stocking up on working hands hand cream, have 3 so far..(CVS pharmacy sends coupons via text message when you sign up for their rewards card, some are as good as $5 coupon off any product😊), coricidin HBP cough syrups, tissues, toliet paper, napkins, liquid soaps, various canned veggies and canned potatoes( we make a lot of soups in the winter), canned pork n beans, pasta and pasta sauce. You name it..we stock up..to get thru winter..i learned this over 50 yrs ago from my grandparents. They had a picnic table in their cellar..on it was all kinds of food to get thru winter..then they had an old tall white cupboard..that cupboard held all kinds of soap powder, bars of soap, etc.
Forgot to say..great start for your winter pantry stock up !😊

Our favorite things to stock up on for colder weather are homemade soups and hot cocoa mix.
Love that!
I started using 5 dollars a week for building a pantry four years ago. I can do the same as you, buying in bulk because of my stocks. This month Im buying a dozen cans each of corn, green beans, lentils and carrots. Next month it will be a dozen cans of fruit, evaporated milk, and custard. Also six each of spam, ham, chicken, corned beef, tuna and Stagg Chilli

❤try canning fresh chicken, porkchop, roast. Way healthier than processed and cheaper❤
The broth tomatoes pasta and onion taco seasoning and noodles makes a wonderful taco spaghetti ..
I just did a big haul a week or so ago. Bow ties, tomato products, chicken stock paste, spices, olive oil, toilet paper and coffee. We are in pretty good shape. I went through the pantry to find items that need/should be used by end of year and replaced them. Have a wonderful weekend.

Love your no nonsense approach.
No shame in the game! Love it because yes, some do try to shame a pantry geek in my town.

Thanks for sharing!!
I keep a lot of tomato products on hand as well; tomato paste, tomato sauce (2 sizes), rotel, tomatoes.
I saw some ridiculous prices on things in jars (we must be paying for the glass!)
I blend my coffees as well! It's saves loads $$! Now the gardens are coming in so the only things we need to focus on are meats and good clothing and fire wood.
We are golden.
Love from the North!!
Love back!
Well if you cook extra pasta and dehydrate it, you can rehydrate it in cool water and make pasta salad when it is too hot to cook.
That is an AWESOME idea! 👍
Seriously? That is an awesome idea. Takes half the work out of making the salad. Gotta try it.
THANKS
You are going to love Mrs. Wages.
I stock up on beef broth too. I love a good pot roast, or beefy soup.
I stocked up on plain cocoa this week too. Cocoa prices due to rise substantially this coming year

Oh, I love this idea. First time visitor!
Yay! Thank you!
This is the first of your videos I have seen. I am so happy to see " regular " groceries in this haul. Someone I can relate to. Thanks.
You are so welcome!
I wait until Thanksgiving and Christmas then I can get things like yam's for ¢.29 lb. I buy a lot, bake, peel, and put them into the vacuum seal bags. I freeze a lot.
I really appreciate this video! Life is crazy with hubby being so sick now, and hospice being involved now, I often forget things I need and use. I have a delivery order started and you reminded me of several things I needed. Like that cheese for Mac and cheese
Water bath fruit absolutely counts! It's a food/ fruit (not a condiment) lol
You are awesome! We stick up here for hurricane season. Winters are usually not bad here. I’m also building a pantry as insurance against job loss or illness for my husband.
LOL, not crazy stuff ❤ we started cutting and splitting firewood for 2024-2025 winter season, I know it’s not about the pantry but just as important. I’ve canned this years sweet peas, green beans, peaches, strawberry and raspberry jams. Pickles and my corn is husking and my tomatoes are being to turn ☺️in two weeks I’ll be busy and I’m Blessed.

I do the coffee mix with decafe because half-cafe was unavailable for awhile and I don't always like to go "full diesel"😊. This was a great haul!
It's great unless your watching your sugar lol
I love it that you do not look down on us mortal folk who buy canned goods! Some people just don't have the time and space to can fresh produce themselves. As long as one's belly is full, there is nothing wrong with canned veggies and fruit. The only thing to take note of is the salt content in some products, especially meat, and plan meals around lightening the sodium load.
I love stocking up. Even if it's only an extra 10 bucks a week or month it's extra on my shelf
What a great idea to do a winter stock up. ❤️
Right?!

Guess I am geek too. Love it!
Then I'm in the best company! ❤️
Us girls are headed out to liquidation center on the 21st we go once a month and it's awesome what we bring home.
@@donnamosely6441 Wow! Will they get better as the season progresses?
Another thought! School supplies will be going on sale soon, my kids are grown and only have one granddaughter in school. I like to keep extra school supplies on hand; notebooks, binders, pencils, crayons, glue, sharpies, etc.
Europe here. Good sales on pasta as it is not a summer food, so I am hamstering it one by one to put away for later.
All I use is mrs wages! Love anything by her. Always use kosher dill mix for my pickles plus add jalapeño, garlic cloves, fresh grape leaves and fresh dill. Best pickles ever!
Sounds great!
Delicious!
Thank you Leisa for keeping it real!!! I love the fact you incorporated all foods for the pantry!!!

Perfect!!
I have not heard of Schnuck's in years. My Grandma always shopped there in St. Louis. Thanks for the sweet memory. ❤️
