At the end of the day, AOC is an elected official of this country, Shapiro and Owens are just people who get paid to espouse opinions. It would be either a massive step down, and/or it would give a platform to people who are just not qualified to speak on these issues. On top of that, the kinds of debate Owens or Shapiro want to have are ideological in nature and not practical. The majority of people are not into watching a Lincoln-Douglas styled debate between two ideologies that are impractical for their every day lives. It just wouldn't matter. People who will watch to engage with AOC's ideas are already engaged with her policies and ideas. The people who watch to see Owens and Shapiro get a platform already don't care about AOC's policies and ideas. At that point, what's the purpose? It causes more division and resentment. If you want to engage with AOC's ideas, genuinely, follow her twitter, read interviews, watch her speak, and decide if you care about her policies. A "debate" won't do anyone any good.

The idea that six months of training is going to qualify a coal foreman as a union solar technician completely flies in the face of the stated general requirements for such positions as described by unions and by the Bureau of Labor. I see the same arguments being made for construction. As if you can just add a cool 50,000 new general foreman with a six month education. That’s completely unqualified by industry standards. Sure it sounds fantastic, but it’s incredibly sketchy that this plan promises 10 million new jobs, yet provides ZERO information in the quantity of units being constructed. Perhaps you could explain how you can calculate the total amount of labor required before knowing what you’re actually building...

This is such a surreal interview. They are both professional in their respective jobs ... but watching this feels like a scene from a movie. Here is why? 1. They are both very attractive humans which is usually what Hollywood does by hiring attractive actors to sell movies. 2. The politician is speaking coherently and logically ... which is usually only found in movies ... because it took a team of writers to come up with such good oratory skills. 3. It wasn't over acted or over dramatic as usually happens with political interviews ... it felt real ... which is usual only felt when watching a movie about politics.
I forgot where but there's an interview where Hasan speaks about the attractive thing. He says that you see "average" looking white men all over media. But if you wanna be a successful person of color in the media, you gotta be a 9 or a 10 and one of the examples he gives is Idris Elba. That said, AOC and Hasan are both such insanely intelligent people and absolutely dominate their fields.

She’s definitely passionate, but her policies are far fetched and cannot be paid for. She and other progressives always justify these huge spending increases by saying that we can just tax billionaires/the 1% as if they aren’t going to react to that in any way. Maybe they’ll leave? Or just find more ways of avoiding taxes? She probably is bright enough to know this could be the case, but she doesn’t really address it.

That type of "no commonsense" stereotype is still true of moderate, long-time dems I think like Pelosi, Biden, etc. because they play "big tent" politics where they make a bunch of promises to gain broad appeal but don't follow through because they, just like long-time conservatives, are beholden to their financial backers and corporate interests rather then their constituents. However, progressives like AOC are true populists whose intention is to create policy based on the needs of their population, and are interested in revising that policy in the event that it doesn't serve people in the way it was intended to.

Our government system would get wayy too confusing with a third party. The two party system is a very good system, and her ideologies don’t veer too far from the left to actually create a new party. She is a very dynamic and forward thinker though, hopefully she can actually pass some of her bigger legislation.

The IPCC Study does NOT agree with the GND per chapter 3 of said report (I guess her team just never read that chapter) 2. Her plan is not based on any resemblance of data, nor does it provide any data projection or analysis of any kind. 3. It doesn’t reference or include discussions with any major federal agency or department that works in these essential industries discussed in the GND. (Gonna be a weird first day when you realize the DOE position on energy is VERY DIFFERENT from the GND). 4. It uses buzz words that carry zero technical or scientific relevancy, which leads to an incredibly vague idea of any real action it plans to take. (For example you could actually claim both Coal and Natural has as Green under the GND with CCS and HELE systems - so is it really against fossil fuels?) 5. Nobody in these industries take it seriously, because compared to actual analysis it’s a complete joke... For example: these are what real energy transition plans look like: **Sustainable Energy Transition proposals (non-100% renewable)** -“ NREL Renewable Electricity Futures Study: A meta-development study from 7 US national labs and MIT” - I support this. On top of that, the kinds of debate Owens or Shapiro want to have are ideological in nature and not practical. The majority of people are not into watching a Lincoln-Douglas styled debate between two ideologies that are impractical for their every day lives. It just wouldn't matter. People who will watch to engage with AOC's ideas are already engaged with her policies and ideas. The people who watch to see Owens and Shapiro get a platform already don't care about AOC's policies and ideas. At that point, what's the purpose? It causes more division and resentment. If you want to engage with AOC's ideas, genuinely, follow her twitter, read interviews, watch her speak, and decide if you care about her policies. A "debate" won't do anyone any good.

But besides the quip, those are fundamentally different tasks. The idea that six months of training is going to qualify a coal foreman as a union solar technician completely flies in the face of the stated general requirements for such positions as described by unions and by the Bureau of Labor.
I see the same arguments being made for construction. As if you can just add a cool 50,000 new general foreman with a six month education. That’s completely unqualified by industry standards.
Sure it sounds fantastic, but it’s incredibly sketchy that this plan promises 10 million new jobs, yet provides ZERO information in the quantity of units being constructed. Perhaps you could explain how you can calculate the total amount of labor required before knowing what you’re actually building...

This is such a surreal interview. They are both professional in their respective jobs ... but watching this feels like a scene from a movie. Here is why?
1. They are both very attractive humans which is usually what Hollywood does by hiring attractive actors to sell movies.
2. The politician is speaking coherently and logically ... which is usually only found in movies ... because it took a team of writers to come up with such good oratory skills.
3. It wasn't over acted or over dramatic as usually happens with political interviews ... it felt real ... which is usual only felt when watching a movie about politics.
I forgot where but there's an interview where Hasan speaks about the attractive thing. He says that you see "average" looking white men all over media. But if you wanna be a successful person of color in the media, you gotta be a 9 or a 10 and one of the examples he gives is Idris Elba.
That said, AOC and Hasan are both such insanely intelligent people and absolutely dominate their fields.
It's kinda funny that movies make more sense than real life, just showing where we are at this point in time.

However, progressives like AOC are true populists whose intention is to create policy based on the needs of their population, and are interested in revising that policy in the event that it doesn't serve people in the way it was intended to.
