Dixie the Cart Goat: At Work & Play

Dixie appears in Steven Spielberg's 2012 film, "Lincoln".. Here again is our beloved cart goat taking the girls on a ride, and helping with the tomato harvest. Notice that the very same cart was used in the movie.

For the people who are ignorant.
Goats are very tough animals that little whip doesn't hurt him at all and frankly I doubt that little girl could hurt him even if she had a wood paddle.

Nice! Lovely goat! I had a Toggenburg wether as a kid and trained him to cart. We built a cart, harness, I used a bit then, but now would not; goats mouths are not structured like horses' and a bitless bridle or halter works better. Goats are awesome pets, so versatile!

That's a beautiful wether! He looks like he could use some more carting work to lose that belly, though! We have an Alpine/Nubian cross that also pulls a cart. It's so much fun, and it's a great way to earn some extra cash at carnivals and birthday parties.

Breast strap needs to be a little higher, breeching a tad lower. Actually breeching is not necessary unless you have big hills or are doing a lot of backing up. Nice little rig you have there.

1. It's a modified Llama harness. I forgot where I got it.
2. We did not use a bit. My son and I built the cart with the help of Jay Hurley of Hurley's General Store in Shepherdstown WV.
I think he (he's a wether) will be appearing in Speilburg's new movie about Lincoln.

Actually, you do tap the animal with a buggy whip; thats the point of a whip.....tapping the ground does nothing unless you make a loud noise with it...then it just scares the animal....its just like a crop.
