Honestly Quan’s tragedy feels similar to Anakin’s own downfall: the heavenly lily sect were like the jedi council, wherein they forbid attachments as they perceived it as an obstacle or, perhaps even worse, a taboo. And much like the jedi council with Anakin, the heavenly lily sect’s rules and regulations eventually put Quan at his lowest, allowing him to be easily swayed to the darkness with their promises, transforming him into the fearsome assassin, Redtooth, like how Anakin eventually transformed into Vader. And like order 66, the heavenly lily sect eventually died out thanks to Redtooth. Pushing aside the star wars comparison, the whole backstory becomes really depressing when you look at it through Quan’s perspective: he was smitten with a girl in the same sect, so much so that he willingly broke the rules and made a plan (albeit probably a shitty one) on how they could keep a stable life if they decided to elope. But Huilian refused, which ended up being the first nail in the coffin. Because despite every single scene that depicted them, every moment that showed her seemingly enjoying her time with Quan, her refusal made Quan believe that she would deliberately sacrifice her own happiness with him over a title and a powerful technique. When Huilian was declared the next sect master, that was when Quan finally went off the deep end: what he had believed had now turned into foresight. She had obtained the prestige of a sect master, and the strength of the sect’s most powerful technique. As she stood atop the podium, to Quan, it felt like as if she prioritized her duty and her strength far above him, like every memory he made with her, every fleeting moment they’ve had together, were all lies. Finally at his lowest, he was eventually swayed by the blood demon’s power to finally destroy the sect and everything it stood for.
*Love this comparison.* Not often I see a rather insightful and discussion-inciting comment. Not to mention since I'm a huge fan of both Star Wars _and_ this series. Also I'd like to point out that just like Anakin and the Jedi Order, it wasn't only the Sect and its ways that he hated.. but the _people_ in the sect that surely helped him turn against them. When Quan was introduced in Season 2, I really thought he merely was a piece of sh*t that went psycho because he got rejected.. but Season 4 really elaborated on it. Turns out all the other Sect members were Capital A Assholes who started bullying him harshly just because he was terrible at martial arts, and they assumed that he was merely trying to get close to Huilian for her martial arts prestige & knowledge. All up until the day a few Sky Lotus disciples ganged up on him to beat him up and leave him in the mud in the rain, which made him view the Sky Lotus Sect as villains and pushed him to the point-of-no-return. Same with Anakin who started to slowly _lose it_ with the Jedi Council members with the way they treated him often without trust and completely left him in the dark with lots of things, and how they turned their back on his apprentice Ahsoka when she got framed. All leading up to the day when he killed Mace Windu, not only because he was about to slay person he believed was the only one who could save his wife, but because that moment the scene of one of the Order's most powerful Jedi about to kill a "defenseless" old man finally shattered his already-cracked belief of the Jedi Order's ways. Once again, made him view the Jedi as villains and pushed him to the point-of-no-return. Honestly, even if Quan killed all those Sect members, not because he was literally possessed by a blood-thirsty demon, but rather out of revenge.. _then I'd say it was damn well deserved._

It wasn't the fact that Hu Lian rejected him that made him lose it. It was the fact that he knew she loved him, but still chose to sacrifice her feeling to learn the "white lily blossom" which is the strongest technique known to man (according to Quan). This paired with the words of the other members of the sect, telling him that Hu Lian was just "toying" with him to amuse herself made him believe that everyone in the sect was just like that. Althought he didn't want to believe it, in his eyes the rejection of Hu Lian was just a confession of how she'd rather become stronger like every other member of the sect. In Quan's eyes everyone in the sect was an asshole who only cared about the benefits of sacrificing your emotions in the pursue of learning the secrets of the white lily sect and getting to learn white lily blossom. Which is why he chose that it was time for the sect to go down once and for all.
The aftermath of the fight where Quan asks Jiang if she kissed him while he was sleeping while painting his lips red with blood was so awsome; in my opinion this is top 3 best Scissor Seven fights!
Pretty amazing choreography, with Quan's brutal, animalistic fighting vs Jiang's pure, focused kung-fu, ending in a conflict of emotions as Quan fights his inner demons, literally and figuratively
If this show was Japanese i bet we would be hearing more about it just proves how how dominant Japan is within the market a show as good as this is underground.
Nah she kissed him to make herself young again. I don't think it's forever but she was surprised at how little it lasted the first time because she hasent practiced in a while.

This is definitely the best choreographed fight in the show and top 5 choreographed fights in new gen.
It's almost a shame the abime community will never give this fight the recognition it deserves.
