Now THIS is what an All-Star Game is supposed to be like. No team just jacking up the 3’s all game long, and some actual defense being played. Miss this era of basketball so much!!
These days were just ridiculously good. Pretty much every player in this game is good enough to be in the starting lineup. One thing I really marvel at when I look back is the way that Magic, Michael and Isiah could entertain WITHOUT traveling! Those driving and spinning layups of Magic where he stays low to the floor...many today would get away with taking an extra step to pull those moves off, but Magic does them flawlessly.
Just finished watching the condensed version of this year's allstar game. I can't watch it anymore. These guys played defense and still showed offensive skills. Defense is a skill. I miss my childhood.
This was my favorite NBA season ever of all time. Look at the amount of hall of famers that were on this floor and all of them were in their prime. The names are unbelievable. That was a special time
That East Team roster is just ridiculous. They would have been a great contender against the Dream Team. 5:55 Magic does a beautiful assist, then Zeke immediately counters with a between the legs bounce pass to Jordan And in the end Barkley with that crazy shot that came out of nowhere. Those are the kind of things only the greats can do.
Don't forget Olajuwon's stats which were just as impressive as Jordan's and more so than Barkley's. Olajuwon led the league in rebounds and blocks for the 2nd straight year. I believe Magic won the MVP because the Lakers were so dominant that year with the best regular season record even without Kareem who had retired the previous year.
@@Ryenobal I don't know, Barkley was the most efficient player in the NBA when you consider fg%, scoring, rebounding and assist for several years in a row with 1990 being his best year. . He had the highest FG% three years in a row, his 2 point FG% is second all time behind Shaq for the top 50 all time scorers. He had the most first place votes that year in 1990 more MVP, Magic won it anyway.
What Doug Collins said years ago was true. Players in the past were just as fast. The only major difference is the strength, and only because back then they didn't do the serious weight training done today. Damn these guys flew.
Today's players can't even lay a finger on each other let alone actually use their strength like the Knicks did. Back then, there were enforcers. Nowadays, the league is mostly filled with spot-up shooters.
I agree, dudes were quick and strong too 💪 in the 90s, some had the youthful old man strength in their 20s. The game is different now but Ewing, Olajuwon I know would destroy some of those dudes in the paint, the big men now want to shoot 3s and less post moves which is cool but I'm 44 and remember the post moves and importance of a true big man in the post, these guys now would get a run for their money from the top all-stars I'm the 90's
I'll put any of the 80's allstar games against any of the allstar games of today. They don't even play defense today as they did back then, Isaiah and Magic always on a show faster than anyone!!!
so many legends on the court at once. also a reminder- that isiah really used to run the show in these all star games. from like 81 to 92 he was the boss of the east team, always running the break. amazing era though- so many great passers- athletes and personalities - everything. but yeah- history sort of looks over isiah for whatever reason- but he should be considered a top 10 all time player. in terms of dominance- he was right there between magic, bird and jordan- but his name never gets mentioned. i guess it s political and what not- but he was as big a star as they were for a while. when i was a kid it was simple, we dreamed of passing like magic, shooting like bird, jumping like jordan and dribbling like isiah.
Matthew Wodicka BS...clueless. His teammates loved him. You hated him but his teammates loved him with the exception of Adrian Dantley but AD didn't end up with back to back championships now did he.
Le- Minh He really was the best leader in the East in that era. It's a shame that people remember him more for what he said off the court than what wonders he did on the court.
Second best, for me. Have you watched the 92 All-Star ? If you don't, give it a try.The last 4 minutes of that game was better (for me) than all other All-Star games combined. lolol
Michael Jordan has not won any championships yet but he is considered the best player in the game. I was alive, watching in 1990 and I remember. At this time, Rodman was not the great rebounder yet statistically, yet, he was on the All Star team for his incredible defense. It is amazing that he does not get the credit he deserved for Detroit's and Chicago's success.
Daz Davis Yes, I get the individual accolades. But I’m talking about all-around player. Individual accolades don’t necessarily win championships. For the first seven years in the league, MJ received a ton of accolades, but no titles. Magic Johnson, whether win or lose, he was always in The NBA Finals picture throughout his entire pro career (from rookie to retirement). Not only that, but in high school and college he was always competing for championships. As an NBA rookie alone, Magic was far superior than MJ… as well as high school and collage.
TiltBrook who has 6 titles? Who went 6 for 6 and NEVER lost in the finals? Oh yeah. That’s what I thought. Lmao at the “individual accolades” bullshit. That’s just another plus. Jordan cared about the jewelry. And he had MORE of it than magic ever did. And like I said, never lost once when he was there fighting for it.
Daz Davis Like I said from the very first comment, I know he’s not the greatest scorer ever. All that I am trying to say my man is that Magic Johnson had a career that was cut short, and even with that career cut short, he was ALWAYS in The Finals picture...9 times! Magic could play all positions and make mediocre players into superstars. When Magic retired, the Lakers were absolute garbage, when Jordan retired to play baseball, the Bulls still made the Eastern conference semi finals. Also, everybody always gives Kobe and Shaq shit because they couldn’t win anything without Phil Jackson, well the same goes for MJ and Phil. Magic was in The Finals no matter who was coaching. Magic was in The Finals before Pat Riley, and after Pat Riley
So many all-time greats in ONE game. From the Original Dream Team in 1992, you had no less than 10 players here: MJ, Pippen, Bird, Barkley, Ewing, Magic, Stockton, Robinson, Drexler and Cris Mullin. (Karl Malone was injured and could not play here or there would have been 11. And Akeem or Hakeem Olajuwon and Reggie Miller would be Dream Teamers themselves for 1996). Even more impressively, a LOT of the players here (13 in all) made the 50 Greatest NBA Players of All Time list established by the NBA in its 50th anniversary during the 1996-97 season: East - Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Isiah Thomas, Robert Parish, Patrick Ewing, Kevin McHale, Scottie Pippen, Michael Jordan West - Magic Johnson, John Stockton, David Robinson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler That's 13 players, or more than 1/4 of the all-time 50 greatest players together in one game! And that's more than half of the 24 players playing in this All-Star game! Aside from the 13 players mentioned above plus Mullin and Miller, there are 3 more players here (Joe Dumars, Dominique Wilkins, and Dennis Rodman) who are also in the Hall of Fame. That's 18 players in all (19 if you include Karl Malone). We also have to consider that Tom Chambers has the most career points (over 20,000) of anyone not in the Hall of Fame, and Kevin Johnson probably would have made it if injuries hadn't cut his career short. So 18 Hall of Famers playing together in 1 All-Star Game, which could have been up to 21. MIND-BLOWN.

I had to watch this again to cleanse my mind of the 2016 All-Star Game. After the awesome three-point and slam dunk contests, they treated us to one of the most boring games ever shown on TV. **smh**
***** They might as well all wear the same jerseys. Apparently, they still thought that it was the dunk & 3pt contests b/c all they did were alley-oops and threes.
+fred Smith The reason why its so exciting here is that there are 14 hall of famers in the same game! The bar is really high. To get to the finals of the NBA in the 80s and 90s you had to past so many hall of famers which made the games exciting to watch. You could probably count the number of hall of famers in the 2016 All Star game with one hand.
tangomikemike Even so, today's future Hall of Famers didn't elevate the level of play in that game at all. I've seen amateur pick-up games look more exciting.
The entire original Dream Team are playing in this game (excluding Laettner of cause) If you are wondering where Karl Malone is he was voted to play in the game but was injured.
I wish Isiah Thomas and Bird played together. In these All-Star games they always worked well off each other. If IT was a little bit older, he could have played in Indiana with Bird and maybe he would've stayed. Knight could've had two more championships under his belt.

At 6-9, you can't find a single video of Magic EVER blocking a 6-1 Isiah shot, but you can find plenty of 6-1 Isiah just schooling 6-9 Magic.
Is it me or is everyone in this game a hall of famer?
just about lol
Yup. 19 of them. And one guy who was injured and did not make it (Karl Malone) also is in the Hall of Fame.
Jesus if u just watch these guys just know how to play the game so much better than today’s players
Sir. Charles and Larry Legend 2 best ever
I have to say i miss watching Rodman play. The guy was nuts but he sure hustled his ass off and the dude could run the court.
dsfddsgh - as nuts as he is he was a role player and performed that role very well. Always admired is hustle.
oh man thanks, look a how this game was play, everyone is running all the time, and the intensity in defense, a jewel no doubt
Nice game and pretty Good old
r n b Classic musik from Michael Jackson and Bobby brown.....
This was the good old time.....
.

Isiah had the tough choice of passing to either Charles Barkley or Michael Jordan on the break.
Charles' block in this is an absolute beast! On Hakeem to, nasty block sir Charles
Man, can we go back in time?? NBA was just that fun...
Impressive as hell!
The game looks so real back then even in last 20 sec still play though defense.
It was golden era of basketball, no dubt
***** Literally every post in this thread either gives praise to THIS game and/or trashes the 2016 All-Star Game. So who exactly are you addressing?
+jp3813 what real basketball fans are addressing is that... BASKETBALL IN TODAYS ERA SUCKED BIGTIME!!! .... TRUTH HURTS KID!!!
Que jugada maravillosa de MAGIC, estos si eran verdaderas estrellas.
The entire original Dream Team are playing in this game (excluding Laettner of cause)
If you are wondering where Karl Malone is he was voted to play in the game but was injured.
"injured"
Yeah he didn't want to play as AC Green reserve
Would have been something to see them together in 90. They were great in 96 but this is in their athletic prime.
Great Footage Thank You
These young kids need to watch these highlights and see what real basketball is 💯
These two all star teams would absolutely annihilate today's all star teams that's just my personal opinion.
6:21 that block on olajuwon though
BARKLEY BLOCKING HAKEEM!!!! if SIR CHARLES played in todays era he would be the face of the nba... he would kick lebron and kobe in their faces...
wornoutshoes11 he was still named Akeem back then. Lol
Kobe would kick back. He'd get his butt kicked, but he'd kick back. LeBron would complain about cramps.
@@ovathere93 just watch 04 Finals. Kobe would look flummoxed against this type of physical play. Look how tight they're allowed to play.
maybe the best all around quality allstar game to date.
3:54 Rodman Jordan Pippen
what make this game great is the fact that they are playing for real like it matters, wish they did that in todays games
pure entertainment and for sure never disappointment to watch🏀
What a player Magic Johnson was...wow. Jordan looked great too. The two goats ever
La mejor generación de todos los tiempos !!!!!
Hubie brown didn't have great success as a coach, but always loved his insight and enthusiasm as a commentator, and well past the age of 80
The NBA SUCKS TODAY. I use to love this game.
true that!
Hahaha true
2:53 is the best highlight of the whole game. If you see it slow-mo you will realize how amazing of a pass that was.
I wish Isiah Thomas and Bird played together. In these All-Star games they always worked well off each other. If IT was a little bit older, he could have played in Indiana with Bird and maybe he would've stayed. Knight could've had two more championships under his belt.
what a game what a names...
Man the talent...the talent. I think this bird's last all star game too
That final Barkley shot made me laugh, sp awesome.
StAcked back in the 90s
This is the NBA i love
