When you brake lighter and more gently, you reduce the power (i.e. rate of energy transfer) going into the tyre which then results in less total energy that went into the tyre over the braking zone. To brake with half the distance (assuming you can), will require more than double the braking power (i.e. energy rate going into the tyre) to achieve that, which in turn will cause way more thermal energy (and thus degradation) to occur in the tyre.
Great video man! What would say is the way to go if you are leading the race in clean air but p2 is right behind you. So lifting is dangerous as you'll be slower and also dangerous because it means you're slow in the braking zones and he might hit you
Thanks for this! Just question, is this apply for endurance racing or short races to? I mean Falken GT4 where you have circa 8-10 laps per race? And beeing on GT4s fixed - should I avoid ABS turning on when braking ?
applies for short races too, surface temps can increase very quickly - it's not about the tire wear its about the tire temp. minimizing abs is still quicker in iRacing
This guys is such a legend, a lot of people want to charge you 100£ an hour for information like this.
