First time watching , you should be on the radio & tv. The best independent podcast I've watched on the Bills. I think if the Bills take care of offense, the defense don't have to be at it's finest. As with a QB like Allen they will outscore, he just needs better receivers & so frustrating to watch how his strength which is throwing it deep is not utilized more often.
if josh finished with 12 interceptions id be ecstatic, i generally feel the turnover "issue" is overblown and when it comes down to it he shows up, but can't hurt lol
Defensive line play is a big item but the veteran edge rushers that have been floating around the rumor mill as available have injury issues. Been there.
I hope we keep the 3rd down conversions high in the 40’s or even 50%. Keeps the drives going which means at least the offense is doing something productive
Thanks as always Joe. I love powerful backs that get yards after contact, but I'm also wondering if those backs take more of a beating over the course of the season. Does this lead to more injuries in bruiser-type backs? Does their production tend to dip at the end of seasons, because they are more banged up. I wish Cook was more physical, but I also wonder if the blessing in disguise is that he seems more healthy and his body is less beat up toward the end of the season. One thing I've noticed about Cook is he rarely takes a big hit. He seems to skim the tackle and land fairly softly, which may preserve is health over a long NFL season. Glass half full day I suppose. Is there any analysis on yards after contact guys and injuries or late season production? Love the addition of a Ray Davis though. Here's hoping he is a much more effective version of Zach Moss, who is built like a between the tackles runner, but struggles to get the tough yards. Our RB room is not very deep, so if Cook or Davis go down, Ty Johnson is our #1? That's a little scary to me.
It's a fair point. But you can also make the same case that slashing style backs slow down as well, just like Cook did last year. That's why I like multiple backs being heavily involved. Keep everyone fresh with complementary skillsets
Joe, I could not agree more with having a game closing clinch edge rusher vs a #1 WR. If given the choice between a Joey Bosa, Miles Garrett, or Micah Parsons, I’d take any of them over a Justin Jefferson or Ja'Marr Chase.
Did a quick look back at past few drafts to see what pro-bowl caliber DE's were available that the Bills could have drafted. Only found 3: Josh Sweat, Jermaine Johnson, and Maxx Crosby. Any one of those would have been awesome. It's just hard to find that top tier talent. Feels like we've been plugging holes on a sinking ship the last three seasons.
Some of these metrics are a natural part of the deliberate approach the Bills have implemented. On defense the Bills have emphasized speed over size. This would likely result in defenders making contact sooner (4th in the NFL) but then giving up more yards after contact (24 the) in the NFL . It is a tredeoff between size and speed.
Joe..regarding your comments about the defense, you have explained the 100% ABSOLUTE AND EXACT REASON why we exit the playoffs EVERY YEAR. Oliver is undersized..AND THEY KNEW THAT when he was drafted.. older DTs playing next to oliver proves to not work...they are always injured..THE SMARTESR PICK IN THIS YEARS DRAFT IS BY FAR DEWAYNE CARTER..we need strength, weight and youth next to ed. Not older players..you KNOW IM RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want to see james cook sustain his hands with contact with the football. If he keeps dropping passes, no way would support him getting a second contract
Wouldn't mind seeing Ray Davis take the lead at RB. Was hoping would've drafted Shipley who is outstanding receiving and acceleration. Davis has hands also tho
Good question... I would define that as the progression of calling plays with intentionality behind presenting looks to the defense that build upon each other to present conflict for the opposition.
id like to claim im now and everydayer for awhile a majority of it started was during the off season i cant wait to see the podcasts when the actually game starts. I could see I me looking more forward to the post game pod more than the actual game. haha keep it up joe dont change - sawyer
Oh let's go! Welcome and I look forward to walking through this coming season with you. I think you will enjoy how we attack pre and post-game coverage. I like to think it is very comprehensive. I do 6 episodes per week. If the Bills play on Sunday then here is what you can expect. Within a few hours of the game ending, I drop my immediate reaction to the it. Then we do Herd Mentality. Then I do an All-22 film review of the game. Then I do a crossover preview with the host of the upcoming opponent. Then I do my own deep dive into the matchup. Lastly is my final thoughts, injury update and my predictions for the next game. Rinse and repeat.
Josh isn’t underpaid (many others overpaid). Looking at overall contract value vs team salary cap, Buff is fine right now. Status in the league without a SB appearance is going to hinder a quick jump in his pay. And as the great QB he is, I hope he holds off a few years on a restructure to fix the Diggs, Miller hit on the cap.
Teams that lose the turnover battle, lose the game… 80% of the time. Thats just a fact based on a century of historical data. Every game matters in the NFL. If Allen hadn’t given the first Jets game and the Denver game and the Bengals game away .. the Bills are the #1 seed, Allen is the runaway MVP and we don’t lose critical players in the wildcard against Pittsburgh. Working on mechanics in the offseason should be the absolute bare minimum of what’s expected from a franchise quarterback. The thought that Allen hasn’t done this since 2020 is mind blowing.
Allen has Jordan Palmer's spoke about it several off seasons. Last yr Allen didn't work with him and spent to much time golfing and now doing celebrity things
I was really hoping the Bills would have replaced that dude after last year. I know the team comes out and says if the team made certain plays they would have never been in a field goal of loss situation, but the hard truth is, Bass is 100% directly responsible for at least 2-3 losses last year, with one of them sealing Buffalo’s fate in the playoffs. He gives me ZERO confidence going into this year.
Chiefs had a lot more giveaways then that the refs just cater to Mahomes as the face of the league wiping out a ridiculous amount of his ints he throws every year.
The problem with "Going Deep" is that Josh Allen doesn't throw a good deep ball. He can throw a good missile down the field, but if he has to put touch on the ball he always misses downfield.
Nah he has made a ton of deep ball throws that are catchable just not last year, and I remember the deep ball thrown to Diggs against KC and it went right through is hands
Honesty always the best medicine! Thanks Joe
Always!

Can Josh do more of the long ball throws with Coleman or Samuel or Hollis and get more accurate?

Can we add a pass rush defender just before the season starts or early season? Maybe someone becomes available based on outstanding contracts?
Good Morning Joe. To me it is the offensive line
Great episode!

Had the Bills drafted Crosby would've wanted him on the bench till his 4th or 5th he in the league.

Definitely don't emphasize speed with their CBs..
maybe he won’t make the team, but how good was Frank Gore Jr after contact? he also has the “fire hydrant” build
Go Bills❤
GO Bills!
Hey Joe what would bills have to do to get a bosa in a trade for defensive end
LA just re-worked his deal with the intent of keeping him. This is more of an in-season idea should the Chargers not be doing well
Bosa misses a lot of time, I would not gamble on him

Joe what does it mean sequencing his schemes?

@LockedOnBills Thank you so much for clarifying this for me. You have increased my love of the game. I really appreciate you

Trevor Lawrence just got 55 mil a year without a SB appearance so your take didnt age well😊
Chiefs should have had more give aways. Refs bailed out some mahomes ints. ( jets game in particular )
Crazy stat Mahomes has 56 int overturned by refs next closest Josh Allen with 7 🤦🏼
Almost everytime I watch the Chiefs there's an INT from Mahomes being called back
Winners make plays, losers make excuses, you don't wanna grasp at straws and look for excuse after excuse, you wanna improve YOUR team, plain & simple.
Teams that lose the turnover battle, lose the game… 80% of the time.

Joe you're Italian cousins Call U Poindexter for a reason. And this episode shows why !!!
May not be a popular decision, but honestly from day one Tyler Bass needed to be replaced, immediately!
Never been a fan myself
I was really hoping the Bills would have replaced that dude after last year. Easier said than done with the dead cap hit we'd have to take.
@@timothykatch1855 100% agree, and that’s exactly the problem.
The biggest issue here is his contract. It means you have to hit big on the next kicker.
Joe cut it out, don't tell anybody, but Patrick Maholmes and KC won their 3rd Super Bowl last year.
Must've missed that
The margins are thin, the chiefs won the real Super Bowl in Buffalo by three points against an injury depleted defense
How does buffalo plus have 30.000 subs and how has 18k ? 🤦🏼
Bring back PUNT GOD!!!
He's a CHIEF now.
He's with the Chiefs.
Chiefs had a lot more giveaways then that the refs just cater to Mahomes as the face of the league wiping out a ridiculous amount of his ints he throws every year.

You're right ,
Doesn't know how to put Air under the ball
Nah he has made a ton of deep ball throws that are catchable just not last year, and I remember the deep ball thrown to Diggs against KC and it went right through is hands
We should absolutely draft all DE and CB next year. No other positions
