The band had explained in several different interviews that the song had nothing to do with the United States government. It is actually about the corruption of their own (Armenian) government.
I've come believe this song represents more than just that. What they're talking about in this song applies to every government that's ever existed. I believe the purpose of this song is to expose the lack of accountability across *all* governments and is encouraging citizens to question what makes their existence so great. I get why these bands (like Green Day, Rage against the Machine) are percieved as anti government, because they try to expose the hypocrisy of the system we currently live in - the system that may benefit some wealthy people, but inevitably requires the sacrifice of the innocent to feed our pleasures. They aren't anti-establishment, they're pro-humanity! As I've gotten older, I've gained a massive new appreciation for these guys, especially amidst the political climate in the US today.
Who else originally heard this song while playing Guitar Hero: World Tour as a kid? That's how I found out about this song. But until now, I had no idea what they were saying! Also, if you still play the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games to this day just like I do, then you are awesome!

Could even throw Suicide Silence in there but since we unfortunately lost the lead singer to a motorcycle accident years ago we haven't gotten new music from that incredible band in a while. Still in my top 5 bands though.
