      Hi, they held up really well. Unfortunatly due to moving house and having a smaller kitchen I don't have the island anymore but the tiles held well for a few years. The island got a medium amount of use not too heavy. Hope this answer helped

    I have a question that might have already been answered and I do not feel like scrolling through all the comments. When using the de coupage glue, after several times in letting it dry, is it possible that it may come apart when you put a wet condensation drink or glass on top? Thanks for any reply.

    • @handmadehome
      @handmadehome 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jay, I never had that problem. Several layers of decoupage glue (especially waterproof one) should make it strong enough. If you are worried about it but maybe use a coaster just in case?

      Hi Ruth, I would just use these tiles in spaces where they don't get wet all the time. You could try and use the waterproof version of Modge Podge but I haven't tried this so you would have to do a little test run. I do however love using tiles paint and you could use that with a stencil. You can make your own from some acetate paper or Annie Sloan does some lovely patterns. I can see if I can do a tutorial on this if you like?

      Ruth Kape just use a tiles paint, most brands do them. It's an almost syrupy substance that is a bit trickier to paint with then normal paint but after 24hrs drying completely waterproof. Try on some spare tiles first and see how you get on x

    This would be a disaster to use as something like a countertop. It is highly unlikely to be waterproof. You are much better off paying for real tile. These techniques would work fine for something decorative that you might hang up on a wall, but decoupage glue is not very durable.

    • @handmadehome
      @handmadehome 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, thanks for your commend. This is indeed a very bad idea for a countertop that is way I tiled a table with it. The decoupage glue is strong enough for gentle wear and tear and always use coasters under cups and hot pans etc.

    • @user-kpkxgtj
      @user-kpkxgtj ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maybe a couple of coats of an epoxy / polyutherane type sealant applied once the glue is dry would work to make the tiles waterproof?

  • @dcwatashi
    @dcwatashi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I often wonder when I watch these video tutorials why you don't show the entire process. I think you should have filmed at least a few minutes of how you adhered the tiles to your countertop.
    luckily I have watched other shows on Netflix and know that you are supposed to use spacers in between your tile so that your grout ends up being even. But you didn't discuss that

    • @handmadehome
      @handmadehome 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Thanks for your comment. I don't show the entire process as then it would be a super long video, I try to keep my video's under 6 minutes. regarding the spacers, yes you are right, you can use spacers to make sure the space between each tile is the same but as I only did a few tiles and they are horizontal I just eyeballed it.

      @@handmadehome I really appreciate the fact that you do reply back to your TH-cam comments.
      I am a professional videographer and I do post-production as well. You could have shortened the video where you were drawing the entire bird and then used that extra minute to just show a few of the tiles being glued down to your counter.
      What they taught us in film school is that you have to have a start a middle and an end to tell each story.
      What did you use to adhere the tiles to your counter and did you sand off your counter first?

    • @handmadehome
      @handmadehome 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, thanks for your reply. I didn't sand the counter just made sure it was dust free and used a tiles glue&grout two in one product to stick the tiles to the kitchen island top and used the same product to grout the tiles once the glue was dry. Hope this helps.
