  • Thought I would make this video to show a recent improvement to the usability of my tow-rig /camper. After experiencing some trips with continuous drizzling rain for 2-3 days in a row this past winter, I am trying out a new tailgate tent to give a bit of rain protection for the back of my OVRLND camper. I AM still working on my RV-12 airplane kit and fitting out the Featherlite trailer I will use to tow the airplane behind my camper. In addition to being a functional camper, the intention is that this rig be suitable for towing glider trailers and my airplane trailer.
After recording and watching the video things I need to fix or change became clearer:
    1) I will replace the damaged weather stripping on the rear hatch and eliminate the redundant straps back to the sides of the truck.
    2) It didn't occur to me until later that it would be best to turn the 7' x 9' or larger blue tarp so the long side is against camper roof to shelter pop-up windows from rain
    3) I made the "clips" on the side of the camper from 2-inch-long 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 1/8" aluminum angles with half-inch holes drilled for snap hooks. I will add two more clips up on the top roof edge to attach the tent when winds are light.
Once everything is tweaked, I think a setup time of about 10 minutes is possible.
