Happy Thanksgiving! Making a Thrown Cranberry Can Serving Dish!

- This video is a tutorial on how I made a wheel thrown “CAN” serving dish for our cranberries for Thanksgiving! If you would like my grandma’s recipe for the cranberry relish, this is it as related to me by my sister Tami!
Mamaw’s Cranberry orange Relish- as interpreted by Tami! (And Vicki if she come into town!) (Leftovers can be frozen)
1 -12 oz bag of fresh cranberries (freeze then thaw before processing for best color) rinsed and separated
Roughly chop cranberries in food processor
Place cranberries in a bowl
1- sweet crisp apple - washed cored with skin- also roughly chopped in food processor
1- naval orange- washed and zested- stop before getting to the pith. Peel pith, process the orange also roughly chopped
3/4 cup sugar- or to taste (we like it tart!)
Combine everything and enjoy!!!

Really enjoyed this. I've been practicing bottles, not because I love to make em but because I think it's a good way to better my cylinder skills and getting that clay up from the bottom. I need more ideas of what to make with cylinders as I'm tiring of bottles and vases. This is a great idea. Wondering what glaze I could use at cone 10 to get a metallic finish like that.
I’ve see temmekou (know I spelled that wrong!) look really metallic sometimes!!!
Do you teach your beginners to pull the walls with a sponge or without? I like to throw with a sponge, but I hesitate to teach my students to use a sponge, because I fear they won't learn to get the feel of the clay. What are your thoughts on that? Thanks!
Great question! I show my beginners many different techniques of pulling; with sponge, without sponge, with knuckle, with finger tips, etc. . After I show them all these techniques, I have them experiment and go with the one with which they feel most comfortable. When they struggle, I encourage them to switch it up and try something else!

I'm hoping you can answer this question, wish I could send you a photo on how my pieces turned out.
Used high fire clay, Cone 5, used high fire glazes, and every piece that too so long to make because that are all hand made & carvings on them.
They ALL turned our sooooo ugly and some cracked.
I've got other high fire pieces to fire but I'm afraid to, don't want them ruined to.
I usually always just low fire pieces.
Do you know what possibly could of gone wrong?
You can send me a photo message on messenger if that helps! My first thought with that information would be- perhaps the firing was too quick, causing uneven heating and the cracking. Second, often underapplied glazes can look very yucky if not heavy enough!

FYI: I did use the right amount of applications of glaze, that's what's so strange.
