I was 3 when grandpa brought home the 59 apache first truck I ever drove today it has m2 front-end drop spindles, ford 8.8 disc brakes on all the corners 383turbo 400 love it 4 life
When I was 22 or 23 I bought a 59 3100 300 straight 6 4 spd. Rusted fenders , good floors thou !!! It was only bout 20 years old at the time 😅😮😅!!! Anyway the clutch pedal quit workin slowly at first (I tied a rope to it and pulled it out when Startin out) , it went completely bad within a couple of days !!! The bushing totally froze up !!! So we just started it in neutral, warmed it up , then shut it off and started it in gear then power shifted thru the gears LOL that spring I sold it too a guy(Farmer) who was gonna use the motor for a well pump motor !!! Transmission was totally shot !!!😅😅😅😅 Great memories in that truck !!!
Keep that Cool Apache stock ~ 327-350 w headers-ish. Don't sell out to that slammed fake poser clear coat patina LS BS ! Happy Holidays to our favorite Cray-Cray Tri-5 Family !
i drive a 59 GMC 9320 half ton, stock suspension. had to rebuild the pins and bushings in the springs. keeping the straight axle. rides ok for what it is. the stock bench seat also helps act as part of your suspension. i have a 283 and S10 T5 transmission the rear end is 3:90 gears, cruises 70 mph @2300 rpm. the rockers are just what u see. no inner rockers.
I love your plan for the truck Dan. Get it on the road while we watch and change it up later and we'll watch again. DD Speed Shop keeper right there. 👍👍
Nice to see something fresh n your channel for you to work on. You have kinda wore out the tri five car thing. You have done everything possible on that idea. Make this truck awesome for your lady.
DAN! DAN! DAN! The rear end axles of your truck can be swapped for 55-56-57 car axles. The "Black Widow" 57 Chevy's 6 lug wheels were just car rear ends with truck 6 lug axles. Google that and you will find it's true. I guess I'm assuming you have a few TriFive rear ends laying around. 😀😀😀😀😀😀
The rear end is usually a 3.90 to 1 and aren't made to handle much more than the power of a 235 6cyl. I fried 2 of them w a 360hp 327 ci. and then went to a Ford 9".
I am jealous. That is my favorite year model old truck. Consider replacing that rear end to one with a highway gear and correct bolt pattern, a posi if it is in the budget. I bet one of your neighbors has a table saw. Go to the lumber yard and buy some plastic/trex/composite decking and rip them to size and replace your rotted rear bed floor. I am sure you will be leaving this truck outside and you will love the fact that the plastic decking will not rot and does not need to be treated and looks like an original wood bed. I would go with steel wheels and dog dish caps. Since you have a front disc kit coming I would keep that solid axle front end for now, you can always change it out later. I would not slam that truck, lower it enough that the top of the tires are even or just below the top fender well lips. I would keep the bench seat and put the gear selector on the column rather than the floor. Just makes the truck more usable, especially if you need to ride three up. I enjoy your channel. I know you are pressed to get content out and often rush your work. You have shown you can be a craftsman when you want. The four door 55 is a good example. I prefer quality over quantity. Happy holidays dano........
I love the truck. I like the way the cab leans forward. It makes it look fast even when sitting still. You should put "DD's Tri-5 Rescue" on the doors or rear fenders.
I like the idea of putting minimal in to get it road worthy, make it a daily driver and as time goes along, make the modifications that will set it apart. Nice to not have to do a lot of floor and skin metalwork.
My suggestion is simple! Go on with your bad self! LOL. I like all of your thoughts on this one. Whatever you two decide it will be great. Personally I like the lowered, not slammed look on a truck. But by all means make Make Ms. Dani happy. Merry Christmas to all!
I like your show.been watching it for ever I like very much watching you put these basket cases together.but would to see you cover the fenders and other parts of the body if your going to use them for a table
Dani’s truck eh? LS, TH350, late model disc brake rear, fix the rust, clear it and make sure it has heat. Just a nice jump in and go cool little buzz bomb 🤘🏻
Do what nobody on the internet has done! Long bed conversion! Do it, coward! 😂😂😂 I like the stockish low buck idea. 350/350 9in. I wanna see Dan rebuild a th350.
I replaced the wiper motor and switch on my 66 Corvair with a Newport deal. Very nice and works way better than stock. They did not have a ready kit so I had to send my old stock unit to them. I also bought the washer pump.
Being a truck guy I’d love to see more than a just throw it together job. I very much disagree with Dani and think that thing needs to be low (on some Detroit Steel Wheels) It’s possible to do that with what you have but I honestly think for the money and condition of that truck it’s worth buying one of the IFS kits from someone like POL then you’ll have your front discs and modern suspension. Drivetrain I’d go LS but I understand you like your old school combos. All in all since it has the looks of your favorite cars with the functionality of a truck I kinda feel like if you fit comfortably in it you might fall in love. But again I’m a truck guy so I’m a bit biased. Anywho I think the truck content would be a great change of pace and I certainly look forward to it.
I know everyone has done them, but do an old-school "Mater" shop truck/tow truck with a Holmes 400 and the patina would be really cool for the first phase. Steve at "Rusted Junk Garage" has a really cool '55 Shop Truck that he's done a lot of projects, repairs and upgrades on his patina '55 shop truck. He even rebuilt the king pin straight axle. Chris at "Ironhead Garage" is also building a '55 GMC with a grafted Trans Am front clip. Both are great builds to check out for inspiration. If you want to change yours later, it's easy to do and you won't have much money into it, just getting it back on the road. Call Truck and Car Shop in Orange, Calif and order their '47-'59 Chevy/GMC Truck Catalog. You won't regret it! Great truck and looking forward to this build!
IF you need to rebuild the steer axle kingpins, Norm, at mid-canada suspension (in Winnipeg) should have NOS kits, and they’re inexpensive. I also have all the reamers etc if you need them, and/or need help rebuilding it.
Dan, just build it the way you want to because I couldn’t possibly live with the disappointment of you not building it exactly the way I want you to -THE INTERNET😂
Look up, POL they sell a weld in kit, I’m doing a 56 step side. LS swap. Just finished the motor swap and have the IFS! Almost there! DM me if you need help!

Hey Dan , my 68 International pickup had angle shims to adjust the caster on the front drop axle . You should be able to use the same type of shim for your truck . Quit spending money buying more engines . You have a 327 and a 283 just sitting around for you to just freshen up with a dingle ball hone and hot tank the blocks and do I simple rebuild on both engines with rings and bearings and you will have a couple of nice street engines to throw into your projects . That will save some money to spend on the rest of the restoration of your vehicles . You should be able to do simple valve jobs on the heads you already have and just put a mild cam and lifters in the engine . You don’t need to spend $500-$1000 for a roller cam set up .
My wife(and even me) really misses my straight 6(250ci) 1/2t '67 GMC pickup. I swapped in a car 4 speed and hurst shifter. It drove like an el Camino. I put in some BBC roller rockers, and a dual carb intake, when I rebuilt the engine. Very fun truck.
348 engine with stacks. My dad had a late 50’s Chevy pickup when I was young and I loved it. Flat black with red flames. I was 7 or 8 I’m now 66 and still think about it.
9 in. A ford rack mustang 2 goes right in no wheel well cutting the rotor and axles come Chevy.. I did a 55 A that way for a friend. Mine was set on a blazer chassis!
We did our 64 chevy short bed p/u with a old skool California rake. Higher in the rear, lower in the front. The whole slammed thing is overdone around here. The rake just gives that old skool look. Also just a suggestion. Your truck your way. The plywood bed " no bueno ". We used old park weathered board off picnic tables. Fits the look of the truck and it doesn't matter if it gets wet or if you haul anything. I don't think your going to like the look of plywood or osb. Your way goin down the highway . Dani the nails still look good.
Dani has drove a straight axle vehicle before , but that truck is going to be a different animal all together, easy peasy to lower , take out some leafs and set her right down front and rear, makes it ride better too , 54 chevy car hubs and brake drums fit right on the spindles for 5 lug adapters for the rear
Wouldn’t it make sense to install a 4-link suspension with 4 wheel disc brakes? This would make for a better ride and improved handling. A moderate lowering would be better since dropping it into the weeds would require tubbing the wheel welds.
You can save money if you get a Bone Yard 8.8 Explorer rear, you'll get disc brakes and posi and a good gear ratio if you find the right one, also, grab the drive shaft it has a flat flange you'll need when making your new one up.
Love everything you do Dan keep it up!! I agree with Dani just a nice solid patina farm truck vibe steelies with caps an small block with dual exhaust mint drive er
Dan Do the updated chassis clip now and give the truck independent suspension also along with the other goodies you will be glad you did. And it makes for more good videos
This 55 is coming out great. Learned a lot on wiring from it for my 57. Please paint the hood blue to match the front fenders. Going great so far. Glad you are not slamming the truck. Slammed trucks are ugly and not very functional for hauling. I'd throw some paint on it.
Save the money on the 9 inch rear end and just buy a used Camaro or Nova rear end and put it in and , the wheel pattern will just be a Chevy pattern . Just paint Dani’s Toy on the doors and use satin VGG clear over the whole truck . Cut some treated lumber boards for the new bed and either stain them or use deck sealer on them so Dani has a nice truck bed to sleep in .
if you want a nice driver i would do a gm subframe swap and preferably front steer. then choose how much power you want and choose your powerplant. nice truck
Ifs. Chevy Small block v8. Aces kill shot EFI. 10 bolt with strong posi carrier. Stealies with dog dish hub caps. Lower the truck down to your liking. DONE!! Enjoy the build. However you build it, I can’t wait to watch.
Liked, shared and commented. I love the truck. Do what u 2 like. For everything u do that pisses off 5 people, there will b 5 that like it. Make that woman happy n she will in turn make u happier.🍻🤴🏻🗽
Original body, but everything new below... a DD Speed - Shop Truck. Old school small block 283ci, 327ci small lift kit and tires that match the lift. ( not really practical to slam it ) Just have fun with it . Merry Christmas... Dani & Dan ✌️😎 🎄
🥱 Dannie's yawning hard right now, teehee that so funny 😅 you can use a five on five bolt in G10 van front end and rear end if ya'll want to go in that direction, G10s are bassed on C10 truck chassis the same
Put the yellow engine out of that 57 in it,auto trans, new bed floor, fix the rust, wheels and tires.Maybe a nice hitch to pull that car trailer your inevitably going to buy lol.
I built a 62 C10 recently and went a bit overboard, but kept the patina look. The next one I'd go with the 6 cylinder and a 5 speed from a late model like an S10, using the stock rear diff. Then some smoothie wheels, like 18's 7 inches wide. Front disc brakes, Lowered just a tad so it's still usable as a truck. It will get 20 mpg and be able to haul stuff, go to shows, hold its resale as mostly stock and be super cool.
Do a axle over the leaf in the back which will only lower it about 2 inches because I understand Danny doesn't want it lowered low low she wants to still look like a truck and in the front you were talking about the front axle I would keep the drop axle that's in it maybe do some relaxed leaf springs for the front and do like a 2-inch lowering spindles and keep the straight axle and the front end assembly I haven't done the over the axle over the leaf I've seen it done but I haven't done it but on the 54 that I have I did the the less Arch to the acts to the leaf springs in the front and the 2-inch drop spindles really looks cool keeps your straight axle and yours would even be better because you have a drop straight axle mine was like straight axle with that was in the back of the truck mine was still the stock stock straight straight axle no drop
consider an S-10 rear end Dan. I used one from a S-10 4X4 in my '49 Chev PU and it was inexpensive and came with 3.73 posi. And Chevy 5 stud bolt pattern.
In the 70's I got my Uncles Shop Truck - 56 GMC NAPCO 4X4 Monster Truck I still have it, stored away People in Low Riders, don't get in front of me, It can drive over the top of you While you fall into and crawl out of low-riders, I Climb into and slide out of a Real Truck

I had a 59 when I was 16 in 1978 put a 327 4 speed in it wish I had it today love the old chev trucks

Straight 6 and 3 in a tree. 8-track with a gun rack. No paint.
Broom in 1 stake pocket, pitchfork in another! When I rebuilt my 1951, ALL of the front box panels in the junkyard were torn up by pitchfork!
Agreed
With spare tire on the fender
Make it a four door! And a spare over the driver rear fender where it belongs.
I love the truck. I like the way the cab leans forward. It makes it look fast even when sitting still. You should put "DD's Tri-5 Rescue" on the doors or rear fenders.
Danni your humor makes the show
Leave it looking stock, and sleeper it! Hot Motor, auto trans and 9"rear end.
Dan Nice change of project take your time with this one it really looks like something that you can enjoy.
You got this Dan whatever you do its going to be nice to watch you do it
The truck needs that 454. Blow up the internet with a Ford Crown Vic front suspension swap.
I like the idea of putting minimal in to get it road worthy, make it a daily driver and as time goes along, make the modifications that will set it apart. Nice to not have to do a lot of floor and skin metalwork.

I've said it before Dan....you guys over there have got such cool cars....we got nothin like that here in England...you lucky people
Anglia, Austin, Thames panel trucks, some of the best gasser material on the planet.
Hey from Missouri!
Same here
Merriest of Christmas to you awesome folks!❤
Awesome can’t wait for the truck videos
I know everyone has done them, but do an old-school "Mater" shop truck/tow truck with a Holmes 400 and the patina would be really cool for the first phase. If you're going to clip the frame on that truck look at doing a Silverado clip from a 70s or 80s half ton truck they work much better
Dani's truck let her decide/stock is cool!!

I don't think you're stupid Dan you just do whatever it takes to make it work 👍
If you want to go to an independent front end a Camaro/Nova front subframe is the way to go. Some use the front from a 70's C10.

You could put,
"AFTER PARTS"
on the door.
It will be a awesome project 56 Chevy truck.
Stockish
The Raingear unit that goes under the dash works perfect on my 55 Pickup. I have not installed the unit in my 55 car yet, I will let you know it goes.
This 55 is coming out great. Learned a lot on wiring from it for my 57. Please paint the hood blue to match the front fenders. Going great so far. Glad you are not slamming the truck. Slammed trucks are ugly and not very functional for hauling. I'd throw some paint on it.
"D" Machine, neat truck build Dan/ Dani!
Save the money on the 9 inch rear end and just buy a used Camaro or Nova rear end and put it in and , the wheel pattern will just be a Chevy pattern . Front disc brakes, Lowered just a tad so it's still usable as a truck. It will get 20 mpg and be able to haul stuff, go to shows, hold its resale as mostly stock and be super cool.
keep the LR fender and hang a good spare tire on it for Dani
There's a kit to do s-10 frame swap
Hey Dan , my 68 International pickup had angle shims to adjust the caster on the front drop axle .
Looking good 🎉 wiring that goes to electric motors need to be spiral wound to each other to avoid creating static on your radio 📻 🎉
Bring home the other cars? The nova, the nomads, Dani’s car. Auto transport is cheap. Bring back the old stuff to the new shop.
I concur👍🏼
consider an S-10 rear end Dan. I used one from a S-10 4X4 in my '49 Chev PU and it was inexpensive and came with 3.73 posi. And Chevy 5 stud bolt pattern.
In the 70's I got my Uncles Shop Truck - 56 GMC NAPCO 4X4 Monster Truck
I still have it, stored away
People in Low Riders, don't get in front of me, It can drive over the top of you
While you fall into and crawl out of low-riders, I Climb into and slide out of a Real Truck
Cool truck 👍
