  • Hey Historical Fashion Friends!
    Today I'm doing an Ancient Rome Get Ready with Me!
    Forgive me if your research found something different than mine, I'm just starting my historical fashion research journey. This is for fun and I am not an Historian but I did my best to research what I could find on the topic.
    If you want to see more on how I made these items here are the videos for each garment.

      It's super comfortable! You definitely should! Even one layer with a belt is very fun and comfy to wear out.

      Do it! I kind of also have a unique style. Love to wear long dresses and bring some middle ages things in it. I get strange looks sometimes but its totally worth it

      Do. I generally wear early Norman now that I'm much older but a couple of decades ago Roman tunica and palla were my daily wear. Very very comfortable and practical and if we're going to have the hot summer they are promising [this being Ireland anything over about 25degC is way too hot] I will be making some more clothing. I can say that the best fabric is actually lightweight summer wool suiting because it is cool in summer but lovely and warm in winter.

    Great, thanks! I like this classic, simple hairstyle so much better than some of the later highly elaborate, huge puff-head ones of later Roman empresses. I never knew Calpurnia was featured on a Roman coin, cool. 🙂

    You look more like a "Ciociara" (you can google it) rather than an ancient Roman. And that' a compliment.

    Due to how rare purple was in a dye. Only royalty could wear it. Plus, if she was of the royal house, she would have been wearing a few more items of jewelry.

      I wish I had had more items of jewelry to put on but unfortunately did not. Thanks for commenting!

      Thats not actually true especially not in rome, where thete was no royality to begin withthere where diffetent purple dyes in different parts of the world, main problem was making them colorfast and that for example linen did not take on to most colors well... Since a stola is usualy made from wool though, so does not share the problem. If anything, the deepness of color speaks for luxery!!! Just a friendly reminder, byzantium was part of ghe roman empire and they where obcessed with purple, rome had very different trading routes and therefor suplies then medival europe where the purple is unabtainable thing comes from

    Do you think aristocratic ladies in 50 BC embroidered? Like Arsinoe, Calpurnia and Mariamne

      I am not certain, but I would bet, based of later time period in history which I do know of, that it probably was a hobby past time for some. I will have to read up on it. They may have had others to do most of the work for them but I would bet some did.

    Where do you buy the Ancient Roman makeup? Or how did you make it?

    • @gabbytriestomakethings
      @gabbytriestomakethings  ปีที่แล้ว

      I made it with ingredients like charcoal powder and water for the eyeliner, I used just a regular blush I had and a setting powder of my skin tone because I didn't have access to any safe supplies that might have been from the time period.
