@@stiimuli I don't agree because "entertaining" is what Gura IS. I mean, her design is one thing going for her, but she's got a comedic sense to what she says and does, and also her voice is great. Everything she has going for her is a gift. Lots of people can muck along without a care in the world, and they tend to look like Dark Syde Phil assholes, rather than Gawr Gura.

I see so many clips of Sora on Japanese TV more than any other member of Hololive, it's almost like she acts a representative for the whole company, like a leader for the idols. It's neat.

@@emmanuelduran3801 sora main activities is off stream as she is idol first streamer second, her early days activities is always streaming on a studio full of crew and only one or twice a week and then since early 2019 she is more busy with her music activities and only like when covid is become big issue she start to stream more and decided to stream alone at home, even then she cant stream as much as other member because she still has many off stream activities, while sora is basically celebrity at japan but its all pretty much exclusive stuff that most likely only japanese and music enthusiast will know, so on streaming side at youtube it doesnt really known and majority of hololive fanbase is about memes and clips
@@qorqir5878 It's a shame because like Azki, Sora's cuteness is hella underrated - and their streams are always super chill, kinda like Akirose. I wish both of 'em would stream more, I like them a lot.

It's so funny to me how different the perception of Gura is between the EN and JP sides of the community. Over on the JP side there's a lot of "shark girl is cute", "a", etc, but on our side we have the bathroom pizza and the feet jokes and the chum jar. Like, there was that one clip of Marine finding Gura's messages to her in Minecraft and being very surprised when someone told her that they're kind of dirty
It makes me wonder if there's anyone on the JP side who gets perceived this way by EN fans. Maybe one of them is super weird and hilarious in a way we'd never expect, but we don't know it because so much of it never gets fansubbed

i doubt any of the girls in hololive fully realizes how massive impact they all are doing with every stream, each day, bringing joy across the globe.
A lot of the other V-Tubers got the benefit of booba character or characters with good lore to support their audience viewership. Gura had none of that and she was able to spin the shark angle into something this enormous. She's insanely talented and literally carried the hololive character.
I love Sora-senpai talking about Gura trying to be all cutesy for the stream; she sounds like a proud mom.

HoloMyth as a whole is already pretty crazy with all their members being past a million subs. But even so Gura alone is extremely impressive.

I find it really interesting that such an overtly western character in both mannerisms and cultural references has such a huge following in Japan, they seem to love Gura.
I'm not surprised at all. Japanese has a ton of western weeaboos. To them she is more interesting because she's foreign but also anime. Specifically there is value in our experiences as Americans, Europeans, and others from the west that we ourselves do not perceive. People often only perceive their own gains so they only think about what Japanese people bring forth that is interesting to them, but there are just as many things we possess they also value.

It also helps that HoloEN debuted at basically the perfect time. It was just as Western Vtubers were rising into major popularity for the first time, and many of the Western viewers being unaware of Vtubers and Hololive in general until just a few months before then. Honestly, a big part of that being due to the pandemic, as weird as it is to say. So many people were trapped in their homes searching the internet for something to do, and they stumble on this fascinating new thing, and many of them finding interest in trying to become Vtubers themselves.
It also kinda helped for people who never watched TH-cam streams (hence unaware of big names possibly from Hololive) but mainly stuck to watching Twitch streams, started stumbling on the members of Vshojo as they were just rising in popularity individually and hadn't even formed the group yet. I can speak for this as this is how I found Vtubers. My first experience was just scanning my recommended channels and I noticed a weird pink cat anime girl in a thumbnail, turns out it was Nyanners' debut with that new look. Eventually that led me to Ironmouse when they first collabed together, who is a huge Hololive fan, and that led me to taking interest in HoloEN's eventual debut a short time later. I was one of many that got here like that, like Nyanners' stream went from a modest 100+ viewers to like 5000+ in just that stream, to put it in perspective. I'm sure many knew of vtubers then, but there was a lot of people there that had never seen one before.
Got a little carried away reminiscing, but I just wanted to say that there are a ton of factors that played into Gura's huge quick success. Her talent, experience, and personality absolutely being the main ones of course, but it was kinda the perfect recipe with everything else that was going on. I would hope Sora understands all this, she trailblazed the path for all these new members to walk down. If not for her, who knows what would've been.

Sadly, this is the VTuber market. It still has the competitiveness, even though they are in the same company.
That's exactly why Gura has never made any reference to how big her following is. This is just speculation, but I feel like she doesn't want to hurt all of the senpais that came before her by making a big deal out of it.
Sora is probably extremely proud of the growth of any one in Hololive. You don’t have to feel bad. Plus, as pretty much the official spokesperson of Hololive she’s plenty popular with concerts, figures, and collaborations
