I love how they've kept the vintage futuristic vibe of mid 80's Detroit even though it was supposed to be set in 2043, the visual style is in keeping with the movies which paradoxically makes no sense at all, but actually makes perfect sense.
It was set in the late 1990s
@@shwettybalz To be totally fair, the Robocop canon is all over the place depending which aspect of the franchise you're focussing on... it could be set in;
1990 (arcade coin op game)
2028 (2014 movie)
2043 (the book)
An official MGM streaming trailer for the original movie retroactively set Murphy's death as October 24, 2029
One of the writers has said in interview;
Ed Neumeier: There was never a year on that picture and that was actually a big fight at the time because people kept asking me, “What year is this set in?” And I kept saying, “I’m not going to tell you.” That was because I always thought well, we’d pass it, but we haven’t passed it except in our imaginations anyway.
Kind of like how they keep the retro vibe with Alien Isolation.
@@PostingCringeOnMainIs the book the original? Or the first movie?
Well, there are a few things for sure that the movie predicted:
The bankrupcy of Detroit.
The use of drones and mil-surp equipment by the police.
The adoption of the Ford Taurus by Detroit PD (until phased out by Ford Exploriers that are technically on Taurus chassis and Dodge Chargers).
The fact that a videogame being good is surprising says A LOT about the current state of gaming.
No.. it’s about a non AAA game reboot of a 4 decade old movie, being good, that’s surprising.

But they also found their passion projects, which they put their hearts in 100%.
I would LOVE for them to either do Alien, Aliens or Predator…. Finally a proper single player experience with the same heart and passion they put in Terminator and Robocop would KILL IT ❤️❤️
Yeah I've been waiting for someone to do 1986 Aliens justice.
Nobody has done anything good for that ip since AVP original and AVP 2. Older PC games, not the newer one.
Alien Isolation was great but not the "Marine action horror" we also want.

You can just tell the developers had such passion and respect for the franchise and didn't feel the need to update or change it's original charm. Is refreshing to see and will be getting it!
The small detail at 11:37 showing Murphy seeing himself as Human, rather than the machine he is now in the reflection of the television is a subtle, but powerful art choice.
I noticed this too! I was about to ask if it was a mistake or an intentional "show, not tell" moment.

I want less AI companions like Lewis - I hate babysitting in these types of games.
You think this is ai? This is scripted, kid.
Kratos' kid in the last 2 God of War games is a damn solid one though. He's a vicious little bastard and you don't really have to worry about him getting killed.
Peter Weller back as the voice of Robocop is an instant buy for me. I loved these movies as a kid even if I had no business watching them. What a time to be alive!🤣
I’d buy that for a dollar!
Did you ever play Terminator Resistance by the same developers? Amazing game. I really recommend it if you haven't played it. You can tell the devs love the Terminator and Robocop franchises. Teyon have earned enough goodwill that I want them to continue making games based on 80's / 90's action films. They could do an open world survival Rambo game set during the Vietnam War, a first person Die Hard, a co-op Lethal Weapon.
Funnily enough they did make the awful 2014 "Rambo The Video Game". Pretty incredible turn around the studio has made though.
@@namesii1880it wasn't that bad with the move controllers, but playing without them made it the worst game I've ever played.

Or another Robocop vs Terminator game like they had on the consoles.
Co-op Leathal Weapon would be badass!!!
As a middle-aged that watched the original 80s Robocop, I approve 👍
I love that the developers kept all the idiosyncrasies of the 80s (rather than being tempted to update them) like when Robocop heals and you see DOS-era commands stream up, 👍👍
It's great to see Peter Weller and Nancy Allen together in the game. They've made a very good job of this, it's authentic to the 80's action genre and I can see it becoming very popular. Thanks for the video.
If you are young, unlike me, and have not seen the Robocop movie, i highly recommend it. It is bloody brilliant. Can we talk about how awesome it is to see a game with a demo? I don't remember the last time I saw that...probably the last time I watched Robocop to be honest.
A good chunk of games on steam do have demos. Mainly indie, small dev studios, and early access games. We just dont see demos for "triple AAA" games anymore because people wouldnt pay the ludicrous $70 or more for a mediocre game
Steam has been doing demos for years now..
Resident evil 4 remake had a demo come out a while before release aswell.

I remember relieving myself in my thick adult diapers when I saw Robocop in the theatres in 1987. I was 50 years young back then. It was a great experience, and people back then did not care if you looked like you had a brick in your pants.
I've been conditioned to expect games to be disappointing, so when I heard about a new RoboCop game, my initial expectation was, "Oh no, this is going to be bad." However, after watching a video about it, I'm pleasantly surprised. It appears to be heavily inspired by cheesy '80s action movies, which is fitting considering the time when these movies came out. I appreciate that the game fully embraces this aesthetic, giving it a unique and charming quality that's rare to find in today's gaming landscape. I think I'll actually enjoy playing it.
I saw some 3.5" floppy disks laying on a counter and was immediately sold on the feel of the game. They transported the cheesy 80's into the future and it feels just right.
Totally agree, would be an instant at $30 will think about it at $50. The accepted workplace bullying (of a woman in particular) was something that would have been in the movie & the times in some places. Younger people may not understand but crime in the big cities was much worse at the time - lending movies like this (the police force is privatized with big Co corruption in charge of both sides of the field) and Escape from New York where New York was turned into a walled off prison, an air of possibility if things got worse.

It’s like playing a Robocop mega-movie. I’m only a few hours in, but taking my time and really enjoying being Robocop.
Making all the enemies have ragdoll affects was definitely a good move by the developers. makes getting kills so satisfying kind of like F.E.A.R. Hope we see lots of enemy variety but so far, this is looking solid.

F.E.A.R. was dope!
As a Robocop fan growing up, this is awesome and the fact they got the original actor to be the voice actor is a nice touch

Loved the demo. Sure, there's technical glitches and the polish on the facial animations lack. But the game is FULL of heart and love for the original 2 Robo movies.
facial animations suck but the dialogue and voices are good enough to ignore

@@lua2wooddialogue reminds me of old action movies anyway it kinda fits, the voice actors aren't as enthusiastic but it's good enough In my opinion
I thought this video would be background noise while I was cooking and slowly but surely, I was hooked! They didn't just nail the original 80s aesthetic but the PTSD scenes, longer cutscenes and map exploration were all surprisingly effective in expanding the lore! Hell, the voice acting slowly got better and better too. If they clean up the first person animations and graphical bugs in time, we might have a pleasant little winner!
It's actually great to see how this developer grow with each game. Started with Rambo The Video Game which was... interesting expirience.
Then continued with Terminator Resistance which was really good. Janky as hell, but still quite fun.
Then DLC for Terminator - Annihilation Line which was even more cool and tightly packed.
And now RoboCop that is really good looking. Hope they will not the drop the ball and this game will be good until the end.
Wait. These are the the Rambo the Video game Devs? Talk about growth.

Zardoz should be next in line!
Devs had some balls dropping the demo so early. Hopefully this means that the devs are confident in their work and the
game will be solid on launch.
One thing that was pretty cool about the demo, is if you do a lot of the side quests first and level up psychology. You will get different dialogue options and even change a couple cutscenes in the arcade. Shootout I got the guards to just shoot each other and then the owner gave up the information.
Really really hope they fix the stuttering for launch. I really enjoyed the demo!
Its shader compilation stutter. If you play the demo a second time, there's none whatsoever.

Im quite impressed with the art direction, Not only is it so pure to the source material of old robocop, but they have hidden a bit of the Unreal engine look, Its actually more like they embraced it into the pallet to get that washed out vibe like the old movies
You understand the assignment. Well written comment.
I love that they went with the classic RoboCop theme, not with the new version. The original RoboCop is indestructible physically, but mentally he's a messed up mechanized corpse with major PTSD. This keeps his character relatable by giving him a vulnerability that creates this unease that I could feel watching the movies too. Like he could snap or make a grave mistake at any moment. He is far from perfect and needs to resolve his past.
It's not just the theme, all the 87 details are on point, including the police cruisers. Right down to Nuke, suggesting that it's circa Robocop 2

If the developer can iron out some of the rough technical edges like traversal stutter and shader compellation, this game looks to be a large upgrade from Terminator Resistance which was already great. I'm also stoked that they took most of their inspiration from the first Verhoeven directed film instead of the sequels which couldn't get the tone quite right.
Interesting…. I have always wanted a Terminator 2 game that was open world and I could ride the bike, play as Arnold. Ride to the locations I need to be at. Take cover, etc like GTA style mechanics. 1st and 3rd person views. And have all this in a Robocop game as well. Just all that iconic stuff we can experience the “ultimate” game of those classic movies if you will. But we can’t get all that we want in life. I think the fact they have made a decent Robocop game is freaking awesome. I’ll
Definitely be watching more of this game as we near release.
Honestly, when that soundtrack started playing it sent me right back to my young self. Sublime.
As a 1986 kid like you myself. Your video made me wanna rewatch all the classic robocop movie haha
Oh man, you reaally have to rewatch the original robocop. His basic pistol is an extended barrel beretta. Goodness knows what the ammo is. And yes, there are bigger guns. Utter classic. 2nd one wasnt bad either. As long as ED209 makes an appearance in this I will be happy! Also Basil Poledouris - He did the music for Robocop and Conan. Freaking brilliant composer.
It fires standard 9mm (presumably), which usually means JHP. In the TV show, it had armour piercing rounds, plus less lethal tracker rounds.
And composer for Starship Troopers
I was born in ‘86 too Jack and like you, saw it way too young in life! “That scene” with Murphy will never leave me, but it’s such an incredible movie. This game version looks ace - thanks for sharing it with us.
I loved the demo. Didn't want it to end. This is a day 1 buy for me.
They even got the spark when he drives up the exit ramp😂 but they forgot the zzziipp zuupp noise when his gun comes out
Its wild how much this movie was not for kids but we all grew up on it lol. How dare you drop RoboCop's gun. Its a full auto pistol with a thousand rounds.
im loving what im seeing. gives me that flashback feeling of arkham asylum, crysis and even deus ex human revolution. love the dynamics making every secnario seem unique, tanky walk, ui, and gore. "it really makes you feel like robocop". very excited for this one. always nice to get these rare fan service games made for the love of it. its rare to find a good one.
The setting of this game is almost realistic. To mean. Within a virtual environment, the details these programmers can create are impressive.
The fact that the same team who did the recent Terminator game so well shows that there was a lot of care that went into making this game!
Ikr! Such redemption after Rambo. I love them for actually trying to be better and better.
Problem is the Gen Z Greta Thunberg generation won't know what RoboCop is
This is a perfect representation of a 1980’s action movie, i love it!!!
There's another first person (puzzle) game that just released a demo on Steam, and runs on Unreal Engine 5;
it's Talos Priniple 2 , created byt Croteam (also known from Serious Sam).
It's a great looking puzzle comparable to the Portal series....
This looks awesome, definitely need to try this out. Now it'll be great if they also made a Judge Dred game.
Soo glad that Lewis and the chief are major roles here
I loved them both in the movies, especially Lewis
RoboCop has killed everyone! RoboCop is not sorry! Funniest line ever. Love this game.
For a demo there's actually quite a bit of stuff to do, looking forward to the full release of this game :)
