First P.C. bridge in Seattle. The political people cared more about civil right then civil engineering. I was watching the fools who never builded a outhouse back then.

That area was cleared for harbor island shipping terminals. I had forgotten about the Texaco gas station on the eastside of the bridge. Good place for one.

I didn't know about the turntable bridge - was that temporary?

No, the lower west Seattle bridge is still active and swings north to south. Mostly a truck route for surrounding shiping terminals. The upper bridge is solid.

Its called the Spokane Street Bridge. Still active today and is the primary route for pedestrians and cyclists in the area. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spokane_Street_Bridge

It also connects westseattle to Harbor Island
Which has displaced many workers that work on Harbor Island and live in West Seattle
