Considering they've been embargoed for 60 YEARS, they have certainly achieved quite the mericle. Cuba has many issues, notably its human rights record(which is admittedly far better than the ballista's) Hopefully one day Cuba will be able to connect to the rest of the world and finally be able to become the great nation it has the potential to be.

What did they achieve? Visited Cuba couple of times but all I could see were empty shelves, skyrocketing gas prices, secret service agents and crumbling buildings. Only if you are a fundamentalist communist and Castro-apologist you could see this as a 'proletarian paradise'.

But consider Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Pakistan, Egypt, Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo, Dagestan. Also consider the heavy Catholic influence in Cuba and Venezuela
@@elaovi This is a question with something of a complicated answer. Traditional Marxism very much was anti religious ("religion is the opium of the masses" Marx famously quipped), but some of the Marxist movements that have developed in different ways on the theory of Marx have been more or less accommodating to religion. They tend to be more secular socialist parties though, especially in Muslim countries where religion is still a very significant mobilising force - the actual communist parties will almost always be officially atheist, although they may take a laissez-faire approach to actually targeting religious institutions if and when they come to power. Cuba is a good example of this, as is the USSR to some extent - it was fiercely atheistic under Stalin, but under later rulers was happy to let the Russian Orthodox Church be to a certain degree, especially in so far as its presence and influence helped to bolster the Russian nationalism which played a large part in holding the later USSR together.
I'd imagine that where communists have achieved power in majority Muslim countries which, excluding Rojava and arguably Mossadeq in Iran briefly, I'm not aware that they have, they'd probably leave the mosques intact and the mullahs in their pulpits, but keep them on a short leash to stop any reactionary coups forming. I'd be surprised, however, if they took any active measures beyond more general political education and state atheism to actually try and root out religion - it's just such a powerful force in Islamic countries.
