    Cardinal Climber Vine
    Cardinal Climber Vine is blooming red tubular flowers. Looking amazing on this warm summer day here in the Midwest.
    This vine is a cross between Cypress Vine (Ipomoea quamoclit) and Red Morning Glory (Ipomoea coccinea).
    For those of you that love the morning glory, this vine may be one you want to try in your garden.

    @dalecalder2003 , well this is several plants I had left over and I would say probably over 10 plants here so that is why it looks like lots.. morning glory plants like to open in the morning and fade off throughout the day, however I am not quite sure of how long the blooms last on this one would be a good thing to watch next year. I know the hibiscus are one day bloomers..

    We have the Trumpet vine here in Virginia that is native. It is the hummingbirds favorite but can also be invasive. We trail ours up the pergola on our deck. It provides wonderful shade to sit under on the deck but is a mess when the leaves and flowers drop.

    Be sure you like it before you plant it. I planted some over five years ago and they come back with a vengeance every year. They are quite invasive here in 7b/8a.

    mine has filled out with greenery very nice and is climbing on our wrought iron porch trellis. however, I've only had 2 flowers. I'm going to fertilize tomorrow in hopes of getting more blooms to come on. is it typical that it's still vining but taking it's sweet time blooming? who knows, maybe I will be in for a real show of blooms soon...I'm hoping.

    A neighbor gave me A lovely rose bush we panted in spring -This tiny vine sprouted up , had no idea of what it was. Curious I continued to let grow up along my fence -My husband loves it -says the leaves look like eye lashes ;) - I searched for its name -it hadn't produced A single flower , so this made it difficult to find. When summer had past and fall arrived, suddenly we had blooms everywhere --its not nearly as lush as the one in this video, "YET" -but I've gathered some pods (ill gently crack open for the tiny seeds to plant, spring 2018) I'm hoping it will get thick like this one so to shade my other plants -I live in southern California (inland) it can get very hot here!

    So excited to get my few out in the yard! I'm building an obelisk from sticks and twine and will place everything tomorrow. I heard you say you put a few plants out on the fence. I was thinking of growing this in a planter with a shepards hook stuck into it with the idea of the vine growing up the hook with a hummingbird feeder hanging from it. Would this work?

  • @DaleCalderCampobello
    @DaleCalderCampobello 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    WOW that is aggressive isn't it. I can see where it could be a real problem in the south or tropics, that is an amazing amount of growth for one season. In the morning glory family so does that mean that each blossom lasts only one day.

  • @michellehillman6049

    I just picked up this seed packet and will start it indoors. I want to plant it in front of our fence to climb. It indicates this is an annual. So when the frost comes and it dies, do you just gather it up as winter comes then start over again the next year? Thank you!

    I live in zone 8b (Tallahassee). I direct sowed my cardinal vine seeds in April...this is now almost August. They are growing like crazy in multiple places in full sun...on the ground, on trellises. Very healthy. I have given them a recent dose of Osmocote hoping they would start setting blooms....nothing!! Any ideas? Will they EVER bloom?

    • @maryannferencak3799
      @maryannferencak3799 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've experimented with different fertilizers, no fertilizer, part shade, full sun, some in pots, some in the ground. What a waste of space!!!

    • @vanhouten64
      @vanhouten64 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be too much fertilizer - sometimes if you use too much fertilizer you just get leaf growth, since flowering occurs as a response to the plant's anticipation of death (it wants to pass on its DNA in seed form but doesn't feel the need to when it's growing healthily)

    • @maryannferencak3799
      @maryannferencak3799 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you are correct. The natural life of plants dictate that when their life is ending they attempt reproduction via flowers, fruit, etc. However, I have control plants of several groups. I am a very experienced gardener. I have fed some, not others, water, sun exposure...etc.
      For your information and especially those who are having the same problem in my zone, I have concluded that they bloom in very late summer to early autumn.
      Mine are now starting to bloom.
