I lived in Englewood for 10 years. I feel for the losses. However I got out after going through 3 hurricanes and seeing what a foolish thing it is to cram so much wealth right up to the sea with 6 feet of elevation above normal sea level. The barrier islands take the brunt of any storm. It’s how they formed in the first place. Probably within a few decades it will be completely untenable to build on them. And it realistically already is. Scrape em off of all the debris , replant the native growth and call em state parks.
We weren’t able to get that far north, but assuming it’s similar to what you saw in this video or potentially even worse as it was closer to the eye wall.
I'm starting to think that Indians who lived in these areas for 10,000 years were a little smarter than us. Probably a lot easier, and cheaper, to replace tee pees and canoes.
Hey, the keyword in your city name is key and the key thing about that is you shouldn’t have built on a key. This is actually the key thing Kamala Harris said. by the way, Islands and Keys really aren’t suitable for development in case you didn’t know

Agreed. FL needs to re-establish Mangroves Forest & inland wetlands to mitigate the impact of storm surges & flash floods!
100% agree…crazy to build on a beach…any beach.
I love Manasota Key
We do too. It’s one of the best hidden gems on the planet.
@@Murraymeowmeow me too we live in the UK and it's one of my favourite places on Earth
Some of those houses will be condemned. Very risky, very foolish, very expensive to build like that.
Mother Nature wants her beach back….when all the houses and condos are gone, she will be at peace.
Rotonda West here, pretty crazy
How is the North end looking at the other bridge ?

Very helpful for all those who literally just lost everything.
