This video brought to mind the wonderful children's book, Time of Wonder by Robert McCloskey. After a big storm the child asks: "Where do butterflies go during a storm?" May God bless and Mary keep all you precious ladies safe!❤
Jan, I have watched your channel since your first video. I love your channel. I love how and what you film and how you edit. I love the sound of your voice. I have always thought you should be on the radio. It has been amazing to see your transformation through van life. Very inspiring. I also love poetry so I have greatly enjoyed all the Robert Frost poems and all of the others. Thank you for taking us along.
I’m in St. Augustine, and where I live, it’s like no storm ever happened. Yet, to the west, along the gulf coast and north into North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, etc., the devastation is horrific. It breaks my heart. But, I do look forward to the meetup in October, joining you all after my own trials and tribulations, of which I’ll discuss when we’re together. But for now, safe travels, ladies. Love you all. Di
I’m so glad that I saw this video today. I’m in Florida on the Space Coast, so we had it so much better than the rest of the southeast. I just saw a blurb where the death toll is almost 100 people just in the states. The pictures and videos of the damage that is trickling in makes me cry. And there is another one coming? Make the good Lord watch over us all. p.s., I really enjoyed how y’all determine your stopping points. Each of you do things a little bit differently and that’s so cool.
Thank you so much for being a virtual passenger. 🤗 My family is in Florida. I winter there. My hope to show beautiful places will instead be showing devastation and recovery as a journalist. Hi Jan, Ramona and Catherine 🙋♀️ Welcome Catherine ❤😊 Enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing, stay safe and safe travels ❤❤😊 Y'all have a great evening ❤❤😊
Welcome to the wonderful state of West Virginia!!! We have had a lot of dry weather this summer. WE got a little rain form this hurricane Helene but not a lot! WE have Blennerhassett Island in our area, Fort Borman Park and North Bend state park! Across the Ohio river is historic Marietta, OH. Of course, here in St. Marys, WV we have a train track all the way down Main St. ! LOL !!! Be Safe and have a great time!!
I love your highway strategy. I usually tow a camp trailer or a utility trailer with my toys in it, so on the West Coast I am limited to "truck" speed. This is great for driving in the "slow" lane. You gals stay safe, now! I traveled to Pensacola right after Hurricane Opal. The beaches were covered with mountains of sand that had been removed from the road, the condos, and the hotels and had to be trucked back to the beach where it came from. Wow.
New IOverlander you can download 3 maps with the cheaper membership. Though I do notice recently there are frequent nuisance ads showing up that I have to X out of the way before I can see locations. Don’t have to watch them but do have to make the effort to get them out of the way. Very annoying. Otherwise, I do like the app. Very fast to download a new map when needed. Enjoyed your video.
From what I've seen of Helene's damage in all the states she has gone through the total cost is likely to hit a zillion dollars. I believe it was NC where she wiped out a whole town, nothing left standing, bridges and roads galore are washed away even a part of I-40. That damage is only going to increase with another storm coming so soon after. There are towns where there is no way to get to the people because all the bridges and roads where washed away. One state I'm thinking NC says they are looking for 1,000 missing people. Plans at this time might not be possible
Chimney Rock is gone. Pick a town on the map in western NC and you'll find it suffered great damage. Spruce Pine, Hot Springs, Maggie Valley, Waynesville, Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk - all severely damaged. I-40 is closed from Statesville all the way west to I-81. I-26, the north and south interstate through Asheville, is closed north of the city. I hope it is open to the south because that is the only route to get supplies through. Anyone coming in from out-of-state is highly discouraged unless you are part of a responding team. WE DON'T WANT YOU HERE. Come back next year (or it may even be the year after) and spend your tourist dollars to help those people make a comeback. Though, the town of Chimney Rock may never be rebuilt.
We understand. It’s awful. We just have to get back to Florida to see family and vote. We are shifting from tourist mode to return home mode. We will do our best to avoid areas trying to recover. Wishing everyone as much safety and peace as possible.
You lady's are great. I love to see your joy. Iam just starting, haven't got everything ready yet, but it won't be long. do you have meet ups, like from va to florida. I LIVE N.C
I had planned to leave this Sunday to drive the BRP end to end, but that’s not happening this year. Large sections still closed and then SW NC is almost nonexistent in some places. Be safe. Have you been to Harper’s Ferry in WV?
It's not good down here in the mtns. Some roads will take months. Avoid the blue ridge and Asheville if possible. No interstate 40 through NC. Section washed away. Be safe.
There quite a few coming up. You can find them on the events page: Our Facebook group for women only is very supportive and full of information. We have women only meetups and caravans. I hope you can join us. Please agree to the rules. 💙🦋💙 Butterfly Tribe Women who Camp: facebook.com/groups/794347871824247/?ref=share
Hi Jan. Hi always drive the freeways. Back roads in Arkansas are terrible. I didn't feel safe at all. Just go to speed limit on the Speedway. Watch out for parkways because they have tunnels. Any road with Parkway In the title has tunnels or low bridges check your route. I'm like Ramona I like to just go with the flow and not plan.
I40 from Memphis to North Little Rock is bad, with 30 minute closures between Lonoke and Carlisle for old overpass demolition, at least this week, plus there are so many big trucks and wrecks, we avoid it. Hwy 70 is a good alternative. State highways are the best option for most of the state and will give you some lovely scenery.
I lived through it at my house in Asheville without internet. Water, food etc! Now my sweet nephew came to get me and bring me to Wadesboro! Two pine trees down but not on my house or van! Swannanoa has floated away!!
The places that you want to go have been devastated. They got places where the bridges have been washed out and where the highway is just chopped up. I don't even know why you're talking about going to that area.
@@ButterflyTracks - there are already enough journalists covering the area. Drone footage, helicopter views, pictures from people who are needed there - the responders - are coming out. If you do a proper search, you'll find the area well covered by now. If people try to come in from outside to gawk and take pictures, I hope they are arrested. People who have yet to make contact with relatives and friends in the area, responders who are working hard to get the area cleaned and made livable again, authorities who have much more work than they can handle - they don't want to be the object of cell phone footage from outsiders.
No, I'm not going anywhere near even a little bit of damage. I meant that it is still going to be a difficult trip to Florida because of trying to find the few roads that will take us back. That is what I will be reporting - AVOIDING damaged roads. My mother is 97. Need I say more. 💙🦋💙
@@RamonaRambles - the parkway is close from the NC border to its terminus at Cherokee. All roads in western NC are considered closed. Google maps doesn't show I-40 or I-26 in that area because they are closed.
We will try very hard to avoid any damaged areas. That will be a challenge, but we will drive as far out of our way as we need to avoid adding to the chaos in the area. 💙🦋💙
Stay safe, happy, and grateful

May want to head west and go down to fla on 65 south.
The whole west coast of Florida was hit. We decided to stay far north all the way to the east coast and go south the old Route 1. 💙🦋💙
Another fun conversation. Enjoyed it AND you always make us look good. 😜🦋💚

We’ve had formal meetups in Georgia and Florida. There have been impromptu meetups all over. Meetups can be anywhere 2 or more of us gather. 🦋💚

I'm with you Ramona. Paper atlas. No specific plan. General goal area. Look for the night's accomodations around 3. Yep.
