Metaphor:ReFantazio is ATLUS latest new IP which is in development by a bunch of legendary ATLUS developers who worked on the Shin Megami Tensei franchise as well as the Persona series. ATLUS just published a second showcase for Metaphor:ReFantazio which gave us a bunch of new information on the title. Hashino and Soejima also stood on stage at the Summer Game Fest 2024 to showcase Metaphor:ReFantazio.

I'm considering Metaphor as a replacement for FF since they abandoned turn-based.
No, but I am sure it will do well, the more I see the more I think Persona in a fantasy world with gundams.

@@SevoraLF because there is no innovative turn based that has an FF feel to it since. Games like Persona have a different vibe, but Metaphor actually captures that FF feeling while striking the balance between a fast paced and decision making system which imho what FF games should have evolved into (although I also like the action-based FFs).
The only competition for this game is that 33 Expedition game
That's not out this year I don't think but I agree that it's the best looking upcoming game atm. Western RPGs (or western anything really) haven't caught my eye in like 10 years so to be looking forward to one again is pretty damned exciting.
It looks good but I’m not digging the character designs. Atlus has such good character designs in comparison
That's 2025 tho so Metaphor is in a league of its own this year

I usually prefer the typical atlus setting for games (modern day tokyo), but even for me with all this new info I cant help but be hyped.

It's interesting how Atlus managed to make a mix mashed RPG of all their franchises while still giving it it's own identity. I think me and everyone was thinking about Final Fantasy/Bravely Default when they introduced Archetypes, but it's way more like the class system from the Etrian Odissey games. There's even front line and back line in the combat, which made a lot of sense on the why there's archetypes like Gunner who specializes on dealing damage from afar. For me, game of the year material, can't wait to play it.

Might be too early to say, but, to Tartarus with it, Metaphor : ReFantazio is shaping up to be 1 of my favorite games from Atlus...& that's saying something given how many bangers they have already
Might even become my favorite franchise tbh, it's everything I want in a game personally (style, music, exploration, story, characters, gameplay, etc.)

Finally a positive video on Metaphor Re:Fantazio where there aren’t crazy ignorant comments saying it’s exactly like Persona or that it’s uninspired for some unthinkable reason.
If your moveset is primarily based on the archetypes I'm interested to see what will actually differentiate your party members from one another, if they have set based stats, special unique moves, etc.
I wonder if it'll be like final fantasy x2, that the archetypes will have the same themes between characters but the skills/costume are slightly different

This year has got me on the edge of my seat with both Elden Ring's DLC, Metaphor and Gundam Breaker, so I'm definitely going to be eating good. I am interested in the SMT V giveaway as well. I primarily play PC in the Europe region. Btw. thank you for your videos, this is always where I come for any Atlas/Persona news on the internet.

Hyped for SMT and now even more for Metaphor, it's gonna be one of the best years for Atlus, along with P3 reload earlier this year.

Man i love how the game looks already. The animation when the character turning into archetype looking smooth af. I still hope the game will be more challenging though, p5 was fun even though it was still too easy for me. Im also wanted to try more SMT though, a SMTV on steam would be very wonderful! 😍😍

Metaphor seems like the perfect game for me the dual combat, the art style, the music, the themes of the story and the people behind it to back up the expectations, can not wait for October to play it

I'll be honest, I hadn't really seen much from it, but decided to watch this video on a limb, but damn everything you said sounded amazing.
A job system like XC3? Awesome. You can beat weak enemies with overworld combat? Great. It goes without saying, but the visual style is also very appealing, I just didn't know it was going to be enough to sell me on the game.
Also, as a fantasy fan I really love the setting they're going for.
You've really sold me on this game, my poor wallet won't survive October. (It actually comes out like 4 days before my birthday, so I know what I'll get for myself this year now)
I'm really looking forward to playing SMTVV on pc because this year is the year of JRPG's.

The similarities between Metaphor's Archetypes and DDS's demon forms make me think that DDS could be the PS2 game that Midori was referring to :)

It's rare to get a AAA RPG that's not anime-style. There's really nothing at all that looks like FF but with turn based combat.
Metaphor is still my most anticipated game, but Expedition 33 has now jumped up to 2nd
ReFantazio is my most anticipated game of the year by FAR, clearly GOTY for now.

I’m finally excited now that SMTV is on multiple platforms, and I’m looking forward to the new content in the Canon of Vengeance.
I'm not too thrilled with the real-time combat aspect, but I'm more than willing to give it a shot anyway (partly becuase they still kept some turnbased gameplay for harder fights).
EDIT: I'm hyped at the idea of Etrian Odyssey news :D

Metaphor's combat and graphics look great as they always are from Atlus, but what I'm really curious to see is what Atlus is cooking up for the story.
It seems to be almost like an SMT game premise but twisted to work in a Fantasy setting where the main character wishes to change the world towards some ideal after the world has been stagnating for so long and a blonde haired ex-holy man with horns named Lord Louise is trying to tempt you to turn to chaos in your ideal scenario. So it’ll be almost like a religious parable like SMT but also it has social interaction like Persona with the follower system which will implicate many characters into the story. The “Archetypes” are very much Etrian Odyssey (really Final Fantasy) inspired as they are a job system and they will be very relevant to the story considering there seems to be a group of people in game that believe people like the main party aren’t supposed to harness this talent (the counsel of powerful men in the trailer which will definitely be story bosses). So far it’s looking really intriguing, so many concepts colliding to create one compelling narrative with unique stakes in the fantasy genre tbh

I was hype enough for the atlus games coming this year but checking ur updates gets me going mad for information i already know.
Atlus definitely cooking this year, SMTV Vengeance this month. Episode Aigis in Sept and Metaphor in October. And now Xbox capitalizing on turn based RPG with Expedition 33. It's a good time to be a Turn Based RPG player.

Honestly, it looks really good, however, the story will be, as always, what makes it or breaks it.
I like all the concepts shown so far, but if the story is bad or has a barebones plot, its never gonna be as good as Persona. If it has a good story, its goty for me, easy.

IMO, the game of the year conversation is gonna be intense this year. I think Metaphor is gonna be a strong contender alongside FF7 Rebirth, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Helldivers 2, and Stellar Blade.
Metaphor will be peak. This will be GOTY contender for me besides LAD 8. Persona 3 Reload was great, and FF7 Rebirth was amazing! However, both of those were technically full on remakes so I am hoping that Metaphor will be great. Metaphor is shiny and new and I am so hyped. My preferred platform is PS5 atm for SMTVV

i am personally really concerned with no info about either its a linear game or with multiple routes, as well as not having a romancing option in a game that heavily relies on connections and raising your popularity. Otherwise i am sure it will be a great game
