@@SHORESAX really? How rare are they? I’m lucky enough to own an engraved silver-plated Mk7 from around 79-80. Serial number is 303777. Great horn. Wide, big, warm sound. Quite versatile too.
@@victorvidenee yes silver plated 7s are rare. Engraved 7s are rare. Engraved and silver plated?! I don’t think I’ve ever seen one before honestly. I’d love to see it!
@@ytinf1090 it’s a physically bigger instrument that was designed to match the power of American instruments like C King and Conn while also providing better intonation and stability in the altissimo
I’d be happy to help connect you with a horn if you’re interested! Feel free to send me a note- johnpetrucellisba@gmail.com. Looking forward to speaking with you!
I totally get this- we’ve all bought and sold gear based on name, brand, visibility but the stuff that really makes you sound great always sticks in your mind!
I love the 7 and had one and it was a really good horn. They have a sound that records really well. Wish you had played Prelude to a Kiss in two octaves with an in tune backing track at tempo 42. Or Ravel´s Bolero. You sound wonderful ,but shredding does not tell me anything about the instruments´ ability to fulfill a studio date.
@@SHORESAX , It's not better than a Mark 6. But it's a great saxophone, for half the price of an MK6. Interestingly when it was released, it cost about 500 Dollars above the Mk 6. I have a Tenor Mk 7 from 1980, and it is an excellent saxophone.
I appreciate you sharing your input! Comparing the Mark VI and Mark VII is like the debate over Michael Jordan vs LeBron James. They're totally different players, body types, personalities, and they addressed the game in completely different eras. Ultimately, whatever instrument you choose as an artist that enables you to find, hone, and grow your sound and approach is the right choice :)
True in some sense. The Mark 6 is over rated . In my opinion. I own a Ref 54 and it plays fantastic and better then some 6’s that l have played. Again my opinion. Cheers. Thanks for your reply.
I have a Mark VII from 1979 in silver. It is a very, very good horn and I won't change it.....
Wow that's a rare horn! What is the serial #??!

They are so underrated. Sounds great!
Agreed it’s like Selmer’s first big bore tenor and it’s incredible once they really get set up and dialed in!

For a Dream Theater guitarist, you play a mean sax!
LOL thanks Kris!
Amazing! Beautiful sound!
Thank you for listening!!!
I mean if I could find one I'd buy it. Sounds great. Very rich

Nice sound. I had a VII tenor a while back and got rid of it mostly because of the stigma. Bad decision on my part.
The good news is you can definitely pick one up for a reasonable price!

Sounds great. What mouthpiece and opening are you playing? All the best for 2023.
Thank you very much @Ralph Franke! I'm playing a Retro Revival Stubby 7*. I'd encourage you to check out their stuff- Joel and Bob are great :)
sounds great!! What mpc are you playing on it? Thanks!
Thank you @Saxophone Workout! Its Retro Revival Stubby 7*

Thanks for the feedback- I do think the sound of the horn comes through on this play test but I'll definitely shoot a follow up ballad vid!
Wow Voyage
You got it! thanks for listening :)
There better then a 6.
Yeah they are 6 plus one more
Its the best deal in Selmer by far!
